REVIEW AND EXCERPT TOUR: Beneath the Truth by Meghan March

From USA Today bestselling author Meghan March comes the final sexy standalone set in the Beneath world of New Orleans.

I used to believe there were lines in life you don’t cross.
Don’t lie. Don’t cheat. Don’t steal.
Until I learned people don’t always practice what they preach.
I turned in my badge and gun and walked away from everything.
Then I got the call no one wants, and I’m back in New Orleans.
What I don’t expect is for her to be here too.
Another line you don’t cross?
Don’t touch your best friend’s little sister.
She’s always been off-limits.
Too bad I don’t follow the rules anymore.

Review

In the previous six books of Meghan March’s Beneath series, each hero seemed to have his own sense of right and wrong, clearly understanding that the world is made up of gray areas – ones that define honor, justice, and duty in a variety of ways. All of March’s alpha males, regardless of social status or childhood growing pains, found their own path to journey – one that allowed them to succeed or fail based on their own merits, their own hard work, and their own persistence. A lot of the Beneath heroes walk a fine line in order to remain productive citizens of the city they adore, but there’s also a darker side to them – one that has allowed them to make a name for themselves amidst the bright lights and splendor of New Orleans.

The last hero in the Beneath series is unlike most of his predecessors. He’s never ventured from the right side of the law, at least not enough to draw attention to himself like other members of his family. Ever since meeting Detective Rhett Hennessy, it’s been made clear that he is a man of principles…a man whose honor code guides his every action, but at the end of Rix’s story, Rhett’s view of what it means to be a police officer and to wear the badge was shattered, drastically altering his views on his chosen profession and the men who vowed to serve and protect right along side of him. And with this new insight, Rhett’s world imploded, leaving him a shell of the righteous man he used to be and forcing him to change in ways he never thought possible.

When Beneath the Truth begins, Meghan March illustrates just how much Rhett has changed since he turned in his badge and left New Orleans; he no longer has a certain set of rules to follow, which means that he’s not afraid to do what needs to be done in order to protect those he loves and to uncover the truth beneath the lies and secrets that seem to reign over the city of New Orleans, its police department and even certain members of his family.

Rhett’s altered sense of right and wrong, although difficult for him to adjust to, allows him to acquire a better understanding of why good people do bad things and why, sometimes, breaking or bending the law is actually required to get the necessary results when lives are on the line and when it’s unclear whom to trust.

Ariel Sampson is no stranger to walking a fine line between right and wrong; her skills as a hacker, while technically not legal, help her to acquire much needed information and her analytical mind is used for good, which indicates that she and Rhett share similar outlooks on life regardless of how flexible she makes the rules.

I absolutely adored Ariel’s character. She’s by far my favorite heroine of the series; everything about her shows just how real and genuine she is. She may still be the awkward and geeky girl of her childhood and teen years, but that’s what makes her such a relatable and intriguing character. The fact that she gets lost in her head, babbles a string of inconsequential information when she’s nervous, and has no clue of her beauty or appeal endears her to readers, making us as infatuated with her as Rhett seems to be.

Meghan March does a great job of building Rhett and Ariel’s personal relationship. There is rich history between them – one that illustrates how both sides feel. Because readers are given dual perspectives, we learn the truth about Rhett’s feelings for his best friend’s sister and we’re able to see just how much he has always wanted Ariel despite the fact that she’s always felt invisible to him. Rhett is a loyal, respectful, and honorable man and that’s clearly shown in the steps he takes to claim the woman who he’s wanted for much of his life, concluding that it’s time he makes a play for Ariel’s heart, body, and mind.

The two main plot lines of the story – Rhett’s search for answers and his new relationship with Ariel – seamlessly intersect throughout the course of the text; in fact, as information is uncovered and discussions illuminate the truth, everything points to answers that neither Rhett nor Ariel want to accept because the facts rock their very foundation.

Meghan March’s Beneath series is one that I will never forget because the strong writing, the dynamic characters, and the complex story lines make it one of my favorite series of all times, and March’s send off for her characters was exactly what they deserved and it left a huge smile on my face reading about the whole crew together and ridiculously happy!

Excerpt

Wham. My heart slammed against my ribs as it sped up about twenty beats per minute.

The heat and delicious woodsy citrus scent radiating from his body did good things to me. Things that made me want to do very bad things to him. I wasn’t a seventeen-year-old virgin anymore. I knew my way around a man, but I had to admit, the hipsters in Cali had nothing on a homegrown Louisiana man like Rhett.

When he spoke, he leaned in so close that I could feel his breath on my ear. “You missed that shot on purpose.”

My gaze jumped from the sexy five o’clock shadow shading his jaw to his piercing green eyes.

“Wha-what are you talking about?” I smacked myself mentally when my old stammer kicked in. Of course he would cause it.

“That shot. You missed on purpose. I saw you adjust at the last minute. Why?”

I swallowed the saliva pooling in my mouth and decided to take the safest exit from this situation. Lying.

“Cue slipped.”

His eyes narrowed on me. “You’re lying and you’re terrible at it, just like you’ve always been.” He reached up and pressed his thumb to my left eyebrow. “You get a twitch right here.”

Oh my God. Rhett Hennessy is touching me. And what’s more . . . he knows my tell. He noticed me!

The fifteen-year-old inside me did a terrible cartwheel at the realization. Okay, more of a round-off. With a tumble in the grass to finish. Whatever.

But outwardly, I was trapped in that green gaze until he decided to let me go—or until I came to my senses.

I cleared my throat and sidestepped him. “Whatever you say, hotshot. I need another drink.”

Focusing on putting one four-inch heel in front of the other without biting it, I escaped to the table and reached for the whiskey glass I’d left behind, interrupting my brother and the waitress. They both stared at me as I chugged the contents.

I’d always wondered what it would feel like to have Rhett’s attention, and now I knew. In a word, it was . . . unnerving.

“How’s the game going?” my brother asked.

“Fine.” Keeping my answer short meant he couldn’t tell that I was lying. Heath wasn’t nearly as observant as Rhett.

“You winning?”

Thanking the Lord that Heath obviously hadn’t been watching, I shrugged. “I guess.”

He glanced toward Rhett and then back to me. “The sister I know and love doesn’t lose at pool. Ever. Even to Rhett Hennessy.”

I lowered the glass to the table and straightened my shoulders. “Like they say, things change.”

He nodded slowly. “That may be true about most things, Flounder. But you’re a pool shark and we both know it.”

Before I could respond, Heath’s attention jumped back to the waitress. I took another ten seconds to gather myself, also known as drinking offensively in my mind, before I crossed the floor to face off against my former obsession.

“You all right, Red?” Rhett asked.

“Don’t call me that. And I’ve never been better.”

His gaze dipped to my feet and dragged up my body. “I can agree with that statement.”

Whoa. Who is this guy with the innuendo? A glance at his empty whiskey glass told me he was drinking heavily as well. Was this the booze talking? Or was Rhett Hennessy not just noticing me, but noticing me?

Either way, I had to play it cool. Or at least pretend to play it cool, since it seemed I might fall short.

“Your turn, hotshot. Better not miss, because I’ll clear the table next time,” I said, but my cocky attitude backfired.

Rhett didn’t miss. He sank his balls and then the eight, ending the game almost as quickly as it started. He returned his cue to the rack and turned to face me, all traces of the earlier heat banked, his expression shuttered.

“Game over.”

What the hell just happened?

Unedited and subject to change.

Frankee and I stayed up until three in the morning. I couldn’t keep my hands off of her. Not when she was wearing that sexy-as-fuck lingerie.

I’ve never seen anyone wear anything like that. Sure, I’ve watched porn and seen it on those women, but never on a real-life woman. And never one in my bed.

Frankee is like my very own porno princess.

I gave her six orgasms last night—one an hour. I’ve never done that before. Not that I don’t have the ability. I’ve just never been inclined to.

“Frankee.”

She doesn’t stir. Not even a little. I shake her shoulder this time. “Frankee. Wake up, baby. I have to go.”

She rolls to her back and slowly opens her eyes. “Someone fucked me into next week. You’ll have to check back with me when it comes around to see if I can wake up.”

“You don’t have to get up, but I do have to go.”

“No. Don’t go. Staaaay.” She has no idea how badly I want to.

At some point during the night, Frankee washed off her makeup, and I’m seeing her for the first time without cosmetics. It’s confirmed. She’s a natural beauty and doesn’t need that garbage on her face.

“I wish I could stay in this bed with you all day, but I promised Stout I’d help him move his stuff to his new house today. I was supposed to be there already, but I couldn’t bear to leave when you looked so beautiful in my bed.”

I already know he’s going to give me shit for being late.

“Wait a minute… before you go.”

Frankee dashes to the bathroom, still wearing her porno princess attire from last night. That is one convenient getup. I hope she has more of those.

She returns from the bathroom with her hair twisted into a topknot. I don’t know what it is that makes that so damn sexy.

She wraps her arms around my shoulders and lowers herself to straddle me on the bed. “Kiss me before you go.”

Her mouth is minty. And hungry, based on the way she devours my mouth and neck. “Is this your plan for tempting me to stay?”

Her hands are working to undo the button and zipper on my jeans. “No. This is.”

BLOG TOUR: REVIEW AND EXCERPT: Twisted Twosome by Meghan Quinn

Twisted Twosome, an all new sexy, laugh out loud romantic comedy from Meghan Quinn is LIVE!

TwistedTwosome

Twisted Twosome by Meghan Quinn

Publication Date: August 3, 2017

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Racer McKay is a broody bastard.

From the moment I met him, he’s been rude, irritable, and unbearable.

A contractor working to remodel my parents pool house for extra cash, he stomps around in those clunky construction boots with his tool belt wrapped around his narrow waist, and a chip on his shoulder.

Racer McKay is also infuriatingly . . . sexy as hell. I want to take that pencil tucked behind his ear, and draw lazy lines slowly up and down his body all the while wanting to strangle him at the same time.

We try to stay out of each other’s way . . . that is until I have no other option but to ask for his help.

But what I don’t realize is he needs me just as much as I need him. I have money he’s desperate for, and he holds the key to making my dreams come true.

Our pranks turn from sarcastic banter, to sexual tension and lust-filled glances. Bickering matches quickly morph into slow burn moments. We’re hot, we’re cold. We push and pull. I need him, I don’t want him. We’re on the verge of combusting with an agreement dangling dangerously between us. Neither one of us can afford to lose one another and yet, we’re finding it quite hard to decipher the line that rests between love and hate.

Review

Twisted Twosome is not a typical blue collar hero and wealthy heiress storyline; in fact, it’s those stereotypical views that force Racer and Georgina to think the worst of each other without truly giving one another a chance to prove who they are beyond their appearances. Good thing they need each other’s help and are forced to spend quite a bit of time together in order to keep their dreams alive.

One thing that reasons learn, early on, is that Racer McKay is so much more than the wise-cracking prankster he portrays himself to be. Sure, he likes to rile people up and get them to react, but he’s also a loyal friend, a hard worker, and a man who just wants to make his father proud and keep his memory alive. His disdain for Georgiana may not be completely warranted, but the fact that he can’t catch a break and has to work for pompous jerks and spoiled brats in order to make headway on his father’s bills is sometimes too much to endure.

Georgiana Westbrook is not the whiney brat Racer thinks she is from one interaction. Sure, she appears to be spoiled and self-consumed at first glance, but once she exposes her views about status and money and shares her ambitions and goals, it’s easy to see that Georgiana is an intelligent and complex woman – one who needs someone to believe in her and find value in more than her ability to marry a man and take care of him.

As much as Racer and Georgiana’s lives seem to clash, positioning them in two different worlds, there are similarities between them – ones that go beyond their social statuses and bank accounts.

Twisted Twosome is my first Meghan Quinn read, and I enjoyed everything about it. Quinn definitely knows how to write fantastic banter, showing just how much Racer and Georgiana rile each other up as their battle of wits continues. The sexual tension that builds between them due to their close and constant interactions reveal more about their true feelings for one another despite their statements to the contrary.

Racer and Georgiana’s enemies-to-lovers story is a perfect slow burn romantic comedy; its use of humor isn’t over the top and the witty exchanges that occur in the text stay true to who the hero and heroine are at their core.

Another aspect of Twisted Twosome that speaks to me is Georgiana’s love of meaningful words. As an English teacher, I am a logophile, so I more than  appreciated Georgina’s book of words…ones she uses to shed light on the kind of person and the kind of life she desires to live as well as how she truly views Racer and the effect he has had on her.

My first experience with a Meghan Quinn romance story definitely lived up to what other readers had said about them, and now, I can’t wait to read more from this witty, humorous, and thoughtful writer!

Excerpt

Why is it so goddamn drafty in here? I grip my hammer in my hand, my tool belt riding low on my hips, and my stereotypical construction hat rests on my head as I finish up the project I was hired to do.

Taking a quick look around, I search the bedroom looking for an open window or AC vent that’s blowing a cold breeze right against my dick and sac, making it almost impossible to look semi-decent in this scrap of fabric.

“Mmm, I think you forgot a nail on the ground over there,” says the throaty, smoke-filled voice of Mrs. Sage, who is lying across her chase lounge wearing a silky pink robe that is barely tied around her waist. She makes it her mission to show me as much skin as possible, and as we’re talking about skin showing . . .

I bend down to pick up the nail she’s pointing at as the thin strip of man thong material rides higher up my ass crack than I care to admit.

Let’s pause for a second.

Are you wondering to yourself, is Racer really wearing a man-thong as he finishes building a solid oak shelf?

The answer is yes. Yes, I am.

I’m Racer McKay and I wear man thongs for older, rich women while I work on simple projects around their houses. Excuse me, I mean mansions.

Don’t worry. Yes, I’m also very much ashamed to admit the level I’ve stooped to in order to make some cash. I have my pride, but right now, when I’m offered three hundred dollars more to build a shelf in a man thong, I’m choosing to seize the opportunity.

Self-respect was thrown out the window two years ago when a pile of bills and responsibilities were thrust in my direction without any preparation or warning. Making money is as vital as breathing to me, so I will take it any way I can get it.

Cue the man thong.

“Oh, you’re right. Here it is,” I say, holding up the nail. “Thanks for the help, Mrs. Sage. I would hate to see you hurt yourself from my lack of attention to detail.”

She waves me off and puffs her chest toward me, her robe slipping farther apart, showing the cleavage of a very saggy pair of breasts. I’ve seen my fair share of boobs and even though I don’t mingle sex with work, I can’t help but want Mrs. Sage to remove the robe just so I can see what she has hidden under the silky fabric.

How saggy are we talking here?

I’m interested for exploratory reasons, for knowledge of every kind of breast out there. Because right now, Mrs. Sage looks like she’s rocking a pair of pancakes that have been flattened by a steamroller.

“You would just have to nurse me back to health if that happened.” Her finger trails up her varicose vein-covered leg to her geriatric hip. I hold back the shiver that wants to spin up my spine.

All I can say is . . . can’t unsee that.

I nervously laugh and tuck my hammer into its holster. “Not much of a nurse, Mrs. Sage. I might hurt you even more.”

“I don’t mind getting hurt.” She starts to spread her legs and that’s when I call it a day.

I turn around quickly, snag my jeans and slip them up and over my legs, struggling with my tool belt getting in the way. Once things are in place, I remove my hat, put on my shirt, and then cover my hair with a backwards baseball cap. The peep show is over.

Once dressed, I gather my tools, tuck my construction hat under my arm, and turn to Mrs. Sage. This is my least favorite part, getting the old bird to pay up.

“Leaving already?” She pouts, lipstick on her teeth.

“Unfortunately, I have another engagement I’m running late for.” A lie, but it’s the only way I know to get out of here.

“That’s a shame. I really should book you for a whole day. That way you can’t skirt out of here earlier than I’m ready for.”

She walks out of the den and into the entryway where she opens her purse and pulls out a wad of one-hundred-dollar bills. My brain explodes from the amount of cash in her purse, as if it’s chump change she’s ready to throw around at a parade dedicated to her and her riches.

“What do I owe you? Six hundred?”

Fuck, it’s five hundred and if I wasn’t a nice guy, I wouldn’t correct her, but I believe in good karma. Especially considering where my bad luck has gotten me—trying to climb my way out of a large debt. I try to put as many good vibes out in the world as possible.

“We actually agreed upon five hundred, Mrs. Sage.”

“Such a bargain.” She flips through her cash, pulls out five bills—damn—and hands them over to me. “Shall I call for my next project?”

I pocket the cash. “Email is best, Mrs. Sage. I always feel awkward taking phone calls at work.”

“Such a hard worker.” She pats my face and leans forward, lips puckered, but I step to the side avoiding an attack from her old-lady lips.

As I depart, I wave my hand in the air and say, “Thanks, Mrs. Sage. I look forward to your next email.”

Out of her reach, I toss my tools in the back of my truck, enter the cab, and place my hands on the steering wheel as I exhale a long pent-up breath

BLOG TOUR: REVIEW, EXCERPT, AND GIVEAWAY: Fall by Eden Butler

Title: Fall

Author: Eden Butler

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Release: July 25, 2017

Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/35202653-fall

 A secret smile.

A haunting kiss.

Life – Interrupted.

Keilen Rivers was the best Lily Campbell never had. He was the promise she didn’t let herself keep. After all, nothing in life seems meant to last, and love is no exception.

When Lily’s life takes an unexpected and tragic turn, she leaves behind both her island home and the boy she could have loved to protect the only family she has left.

But sometimes life takes without giving. Sometimes you cannot bend, only break. And when her career spirals out of her control, Lily can only watch as everything she worked for falls to ruin.

But some lies are hard to come back from. And some promises are made to be broken. Sometimes going home again is the only thing that can save you. But first you have to break. First you have to fall.

What Others Are Saying

“A captivating and beautiful story with lots of love and passion.”

5 Star Amazon Review

“Captivating, Emotional Read

“A beautiful love story”

 5 stars from Momlovestoread Reviews

“It’s beautiful and heartbreaking”

5 Stars from Shakespeare’s Wench Book Blog

Lily Campbell’s definition of ‘Ohana’ is no longer what it used to be; in fact, it’s so distorted from a multitude of losses, regrets, mistakes, and broken promises, that she’s lost any sense of herself or the meaningful parts of her life, keeping everyone at a distance, unwilling to endure anything else.

Without taking risks and attempting to move forward, there’s no way for Lily to mend her heart…no way for her to allow herself to fall without absolutely knowing that there will be someone there to protect and love her. The island girl who Lily was is buried deep within, yearning to be set free, but her fears and her bad memories won’t allow her to be the naive girl she once was. But what Lily doesn’t realize is that she’s also more than the mainland attorney she’s determined herself to be – she’s more than the success and money that drives her life, and if she could she passed her need to survive and remain self-reliant, she would understand that despite her losses, there are people ready and willing to help her remember the beauty of the island…remember the dreams she once had…remember that falling doesn’t always have to lead to devastation.

Fall is Lily’s journey to find her true ‘Ohana’…to find her true place…her true self and to find a way to make her dreams a reality because it’s clear that she was always destined to keep her promise despite the missed moments along the way.

I loved Kona’s role in the story and the advice that he offers to Lily illustrates just how much he has learned from his own mistakes, which is exactly the kind of insight she needs to determine her next move. But I have to admit that there are parts of the story line that don’t seem to mesh well with Lily’s true adventure. She has enough to work through and figure out without adding extra drama to her already complicated life, so I had a hard time understanding its purpose.

Regardless of my few issues, though, I enjoyed Lily’s story. Eden Butler’s poetic words and vivid descriptions personify Lily’s homeland, allowing readers to understand how majestic it is and how easily it can help heal Lily’s soul if she’d only try to see passed the pain, fear, and grief that controls her every action. Lily’s relationship with her niece and her connection with Keilen Rivers helps to direct the path Lily takes, and even though she encounters a few roadblocks and questions everything about her life, the way she feels about Zee, Keilen, and her island help her to realize exactly where she belongs.

4 Poison Apples

Half a step, then two more and there was the weight of Keilen’s large hand on the center of her back, guiding, directing her until she came to rest against his barrel chest, until those massive arms cradled her and the hot fan of his breath slipped down her neck.

The feel of him, the angle of his body, how it moved against hers, how they seemed to fit, to match, to be part of some puzzle she’d never known needed solving was fantasy made real—a hundred stupid wishes her teenage self had spoken into the ether finally realized; breath sweet and intoxicating against her skin. He didn’t dance like her classmates in New Haven. They’d all been a bundle of jerks and gyrations, clumsy sways with the solitary agenda of insinuating an act they so eagerly tried to move Lily toward. They moved like boys—anxious, unpracticed. Keilen moved like a man—commanding, sure, and Lily wanted to stay with him like that, to see how far removed reality would be to the dreams and decadent fantasy she’d invented about him.

Eden Butler is an editor and writer of Mystery, Suspense and Contemporary Romance novels and the nine-times great-granddaughter of an honest-to-God English pirate. This could explain her affinity for rule breaking and rum.

When she’s not writing or wondering about her possibly Jack Sparrowesque ancestor, Eden patiently waits for her Hogwarts letter, edits, reads and spends way too much time watching rugby, Doctor Who and New Orleans Saints football.

She is currently living under teenage rule alongside her husband in southeast Louisiana.

Series: Hawks MC: Caroline Springs Charter #5

Author: Lila Rose

Genre: M/M MC Romance

Release: August 8, 2017

Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/35392943-hear-me-out

Fear keeps the truth away from his brothers. Fear and pain keeps him away from the man he loves.

Hawks MC member Maddox “Beast” Lawson had a difficult time growing up. Tired of being ridiculed because of his effed-up brain-to-mouth connection, it was easier to say nothing at all. Living in silence worked out just fine until that b*tch called Fate took his hearing, not only that, but she also threw him into the arms of the man who refuses to acknowledge that one hot night they shared.

Jay Conger, Knife to his brothers, loves pussy. Licking, fingering, screwing, he’ll take it any way it’s offered. After one surprising night with Beast, to say he’s freaked out is an understatement. Hell, even bananas have taken on a new meaning, and thinking about a certain someone’s body is too much. Unable to think straight, Knife is at an impasse, not only with his traitorous desire but with his heart.

Both lives are going to change. Only will it be for the better?

Hear Me Out is Beast and Knife’s story, and it’s one that truly illustrates what the MC brotherhood is all about, not just because the guys have one another’s backs regardless of the situation, but it’s also because those who live and breathe the bonds established by being a part of the club accept who each member without judgment or criticism. There’s a true sense of family amongst the brothers in the Hawks MC, and Lila Rose depicts that idea extremely well as they work together to help Beast and Knife through the many life altering events that occur in their lives throughout the story.

Maddox “Beast” Lawson found the love of his life when he was 15 years old, and he’s lived for two decades knowing that this man would never see Beast the way he wanted to be seen. As a gay man in a motorcycle club, he has kept his sexuality as well as his dalliances to himself, but one night in a hotel room with the man who means everything to him not only changes the dynamics of their friendship, but it also opens up Beast’s life to gossip and judgment, making him feel like he no longer belongs with the Hawks and this idea is only reinforced more when Beast faces a life without the ability to hear, which only serves to alienate him further from the men he desperately needs to have his back.

Jay “Knife” Conger’s life drastically changed after he shared a night of sexual release with his best friend…with a man who means everything to him but one who could never replace Knife’s love of pussy. Nothing has been the same for Knife after that encounter with Beast, not only due to the fact that he’s avoided Beast since that night but because it also brought conflicted feelings to the surface, forcing Knife to figure out why thoughts of Beast have become way more than friendly.

At the heart of Hear Me Out is a story about two guys figuring out exactly what they mean to one another and accepting that those feelings are worth taking a chance on despite the fear of backlash and judgment. Lila Rose does a great job of illustrating Knife’s confusion and then his realization and ultimately his acceptance of his attraction and desire for Beast.

Beast and Knife’s story also provides its own definition of what a family means and how, sometimes, blood is more a determent than anything else. Knife opens himself up to an array of possibilities, more than just his feelings for Beast, and as he realizes exactly what he has with Beast, with his brothers, and with the most precious gift he’s ever received, his life becomes everything he never knew he wanted, and with Beast by his side, Knife knows that no one and nothing will ever get in the way of what and who make him happy.

Review

Throughout the Wright series, Austin Wright has been the one sibling who doesn’t seem to take anything seriously. He’s the good time guy who indulges in alcohol and women and more often than not, spends his days and his nights in a constant state of drunkenness. Austin’s tolerance for alcohol makes it seem like he has a handle on his drinking, but his family, his friends, and even those readers who have witnessed his actions since the beginning of the series see Austin for who he is – an alcoholic who would rather go through life numb and half lit than acknowledge just how out of control he’s allowed his drinking and his life to become.

Julia Banner knows a thing or two about bad boys, and her short relationship with Austin Wright and how it ended solidified her need to choose ‘safe’ guys – ones who wouldn’t hurt her because she would never allow them to know the real Julia or to get close enough to break her like the men in her past.

But here’s the thing about Austin and Julia – because she works for Wright Construction and is good friends with the women who share their lives with the other Wright brothers, Austin and Julia’s paths constantly intersect and regardless of how much they fight and how much Julia seems to hate Austin, there’s always been a connection between them – one that overpowers rational thought and makes them both yearn for a second chance despite the constant state of turmoil that seems to exist between them and the fact that Austin’s drinking is a problem he won’t admit.

Austin and Julia’s journey in The Wright Mistake is volatile and unsteady. Their issues with one another don’t begin to describe just how difficult finding their way back to each other will be because that’s not the only thing they have to contend with when it comes to making things right. Austin and Julia both have pasts that haven’t been truly dealt with and unless they can be open and honest about how past events have shaped them and hash out why there’s so much anger and hostility when it comes to their feelings for each other, anything they try to build will implode just like it did before.

I have to admit that I had a difficult time getting into this story. I didn’t understand Austin and Julia’s frame of mind, which made it difficult to figure out why they act and say the things that they do, especially since their back stories weren’t provided until further into the story. As the story played out, though, it did start to explain their pasts and how those experiences presently affect them and there are some pretty big reasons for how they both act, which helped me feel better about the story as a whole.

The Wright Mistake is an emotional read because there are life changing events that occur that affect more than just Austin and Julia and when those things happen, the dynamics of the Wright siblings as well as those closest to them will be shaken to their core.

K. A. Linde does a great job of illustrating the volatile feelings that are at play between Austin and Julia for much of their story. There is not an easy fix for what Austin broke between them and while he wants to change and be a better man for Julia, he still has to acknowledge his problem with drinking because without him admitting his issue, the alcohol controls his actions not himself.

The Wright siblings are forever changed with the decisions that are made and the unforeseen situations that they experience, and while everything that happens seems to make them closer, it also shows them exactly how cruel life can be and how short the time is they have with those they love, so they better make it count.
