Evander Lennox doesn’t do anything he doesn’t want to do.  At least, that is, until he’s sent to prison.  The four years he’s incarcerated, he’s had no choice but to do the things that he’s asked to do, when he’s asked to do them.  And now, if he doesn’t, it will mean a one-way ticket straight back to hell.

Once he’s free, it takes him twenty-four hours to get his old job back, his dog at home where he belongs, and an understanding that people aren’t as forgiving as he once thought them to be. He’s just about given up hope of ever integrating back into society when a woman slams into his heart, literally and figuratively.

***

Kennedy Swallow just wants to belong somewhere.

When she was younger, her parents divorced, and chose to separate her from her twin.  Fast forward fifteen years, and she’s finally getting to meet the family she’s always wanted to be a part of. To make that happen, she uproots her life and moves to the tiny town of Hostel, Texas—giving her almost everything she’s ever wanted.

Just when she thinks she’s making progress in winning her family over, she finds out that her twin is ill, and the only reason her family tolerates her is due to the convenience of having a free caretaker whenever they might be in need of one.

After a few eye-opening experiences, she quickly realizes that she’s being used. Vowing to herself that she’ll make the best of the situation, she begins to steel her heart. What she doesn’t prepare for is a man named Evander who sees that barrier as a challenge.

***

It takes Evander all of ten seconds while watching the woman on the floor, bleeding from her jaw, to realize that maybe life isn’t as bad as it could be.

This woman with her thrill for life, a crazy obsession with chickens, and a desire to be wanted, changes everything he thinks he knows.

But it doesn’t take long for him to realize that just by being around her, the people of the town have judged her guilty by association.

Her business suffers, and soon after, she realizes what it will mean to have him by her side—the loss of everything she’s worked so hard for.

Kennedy knows that Evander is worth it.  Evander, however, decides that he’s not letting another person get hurt because he was stupid enough to care.

About THE IMPOSSIBLE VASTNESS OF US:

“I know how to watch my back. I’m the only one that ever has.”

India Maxwell hasn’t just moved across the country—she’s plummeted to the bottom rung of the social ladder. It’s taken years to cover the mess of her home life with a veneer of popularity. Now she’s living in one of Boston’s wealthiest neighborhoods with her mom’s fiancé and his daughter, Eloise. Thanks to her soon-to-be stepsister’s clique of friends, including Eloise’s gorgeous, arrogant boyfriend Finn, India feels like the one thing she hoped never to be seen as again: trash.

But India’s not alone in struggling to control the secrets of her past. Eloise and Finn, the school’s golden couple, aren’t all they seem to be. In fact, everyone’s life is infinitely more complex than it first appears. And as India grows closer to Finn and befriends Eloise, threatening the facades that hold them together, what’s left are truths that are brutal, beautiful, and big enough to change them forever…

Review

I’m NOT a big reader of Young Adult Romance…it might have something to do with the fact that I teach high school and see the angsty drama firsthand, but I tend to read more NA or contemporary adult romances. But when one of my favorite authors writes a Mature YA, I HAVE TO read it, and I was lucky enough to get an advanced copy of The Impossible Vastness of Us by Samantha Young, and even though my heart broke for the trials and pain these young characters had to endure and the loneliness they felt due to the secrets that they chose to keep, my heart is also full because by the time I was done reading India’s story, I felt like all of the main characters’ sacrifices allowed them to truly understand what’s important in life, solidifying the bond they share and also proving that they’re not as different as they once thought.

Young’s story tackles a wide range of teen issues, illustrating  India, Finn, and Eloise’s transition to adulthood and providing insight into the different ways teens handle life-changing moments that build them up as well as make them feel inferior to those around them. The old adage that “You can’t understand someone until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes” is aptly illustrated on a grand scale, but it’s not done in a cliched or overdramatic way. The main as well as supporting characters are amazingly complex… they’re scarred but also hopeful…lost but also seeking to be found…afraid but also determined to live life on their terms.

India, Finn, and Eloise, despite their differences, are all trapped and powerless to society’s dictates; the social hierarchy maintained at Tobias Rochester High School as well as throughout the Boston elite neighborhood that they live are the judge and jury of all who reside there, and because of that, most teens as well as adults wear masks, refusing to allow anyone to truly see behind their presented facades. So as much as their privileged lifestyle allows them to be financially secure, keeping up appearances and climbing the social ladder demand that secrets remain hidden…that anything that makes them different stay unexposed because if that information is unveiled, everything that these teens have worked for can crumble, ostracizing them and shaming them because of who they truly are.

The secrets that the characters endure as well as work to hide can cost them so much more than their place at the top of their school’s popularity ladder, and even though the story is told solely from India’s point of view, the development of the other characters provide dense insight into what’s at stake for them as well, and while relying on oneself is extremely important finding those individuals who accept everyone for who they are is worth the risk of being misjudged or even treated differently because if people can’t be themselves, who exactly can they be and still not feel like simply a carbon copy of everyone else?

I encourage all lovers of romance, even those who might not read much YA, to one-click The Impossible Vastness of Us because even though Young uses teenagers to demonstrate key lessons about life and developing oneself, all readers have felt what these characters feel and perhaps have even gone through the trials and tribulations that are explored throughout the story, which makes it applicable to a wide audience, not just young adults.

Excerpt

“This is Jay,” I said, crossing my arms over my chest in defiance at the stern look on her face.

I hated when she acted like she gave a crap.

“I don’t care who he is.” Hayley tried to fry his ass with her eyes. “You can leave.”

Jay stared back at her with as much defiance as I did, making me like him more. He turned to me and pressed a slow, intimate kiss to the corner of my mouth. “See you at school, babe.”

He laughed at the mischief in my eyes.

I waited until he’d brushed by Hayley without a word and I heard the front door close behind him. “Nice. Thanks.”

Hayley’s dark eyes narrowed into slits. “Don’t talk to me like that. I’m tired, it’s been a long day and now I come home and find my daughter being mauled by some walking hormone. Am I supposed to be happy that you’re dating some guy who looks like he’s seen the inside of prison more than once?”

“We’re not dating. We’re just fooling around.”

“Oh, well, then, why am I so upset?” She threw her hands up in exasperation.

“Hayley.”

She flinched, like she always flinched when I called her by her name (so she flinched a lot). “Don’t ‘Hayley’ me. I have a right to be upset about this.”

“Don’t be. I’m not serious about him. And I’m not getting pregnant. Anyway, you’re home early.”

“They put me on a shorter flight.” She dumped her purse on the couch as she moved farther into the room. “We’ll discuss Jay later. I need to tell you something.”

I tensed. “Yeah?”

She stared pensively at me for a few seconds before finally taking a seat by my side. “I’ve met someone.”

Dread instantly filled me.

Scrutinizing me for a reaction and getting none, Hayley smiled reassuringly. “He’s wonderful. His name is Theo and he has a daughter who’s actually your age. He lives in Boston. We met on one of my flights out there.”

My stomach churned. “How long?”

“Several months ago.”

“I knew something was going on,” I muttered.

“I’m sorry I kept it from you for so long… I just wanted to make sure it was real between us.”

“And is it?”

“Very much so. We’ve fallen in love.”

“That’s some long-distance relationship.”

“I stay with him when I fly out there. I see him as often as possible.”

I snorted. “And you think he’s faithful all the times you’re not around?”

“Don’t.” She cut a hand through the air. “Those are your trust issues, India. Not mine.”

My blood boiled with indignation. She was completely naïve if she thought for one second this guy wasn’t’ a loser. She had chosen badly before, after all. I had a right to the dread that was making me feel sick.

“I just wanted to give you a heads-up that it’s serious.”

“What does that even mean?”

“It means that if this is going where I think it’s going, then that might mean a big life change for us.”

Oh, hell.

I stared at her in horror.

Hayley sighed wearily at the expression I wasn’t even trying to conceal. “I’m going to make a cup of tea. I’m tired so we’ll talk about Jay another time.” She turned but then stopped to stare at me sadly. “Thanks for being so happy for me, by the way.”

That didn’t even deserve a response.

There was a time Hayley couldn’t give a damn about my happiness. I felt it only fair that I feel apathetic now about hers.

Clear Mind. Hard Heart.

That’s the motto that creates champions…creates leaders…creates all-stars, but it’s also the one that keeps people at an arm’s length…keeps individuals running and hiding, never getting close to anyone or trusting someone enough to not get spooked when things get tough or overwhelming.

At the beginning of book one of The Player Duet, Easton Wylder and Scout Dalton lived their lives according to that belief – keeping their mind void of anything but the sport they love and the career that fulfills them and ensuring their focus remains on their goals by not allowing their heart to feel anything that could ruin their chances. But when Scout walked into the Austin Aces’ locker room and vowed to get Easton back in the game that defines him, the push and pull of their professional relationship becomes a personal one – one that neither is willing to give up despite its inappropriate nature because of their positions with the Aces or the fear that is felt when their hearts become a deciding factor in every action and every reaction that occurs.

Clear Mind. Full Heart.

That’s the new mantra that Easton and Scout ascribe to in The Catch, and while it’s one that takes time to perfect and is often overwhelming due to the emotions that are involved, both on and off the field, it’s an affirmation that makes their lives more complete…that allows them to see beyond the bright lights of the stadium and the cheers of the crowd…that forces them to fight harder, refusing to lose what they’ve both worked their asses off to accomplish, finding a way to keep their legacy alive even if they’ve reached the bottom of the ninth, down by one, with two outs, and a full count due to a series of betrayals and a plethora of secrets and lies.

Self transformation and self-realization are two powerful ideas that Easton and Scout must learn in order to move forward in their careers and in their relationship, and while there are times in the story when it seems impossible to fix what’s broken, whether it be an injury…an illness…a trade…a bad decision, that’s when being steadfast matters most…that’s when the true measure of a man/woman is demonstrated and Easton and Scout prove their worth to themselves and to others when they realize that the magic of what they share as a couple and as a team on/off the field can only be destroyed by dropping the fly ball when the game is on the line.

The Catch has a multi-faceted story line – one that intertwines throughout the course of the text, illustrating how pivotal each revelation and each reaction is for Easton and Scout respective careers and relationship. Nothing is guaranteed in the game of baseball or the game of life and that idea is driven home multiple times due to Easton’s injury, his shortcomings, and his complex family dynamics. But with Scout by his side – the one person who truly gets him…who challenges him…who encourages him, the magic of the game…of their love…of their legacy will remain long after the lights of the stadium go out.

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000038_00074]Baseball has never been sexier in an all-new novel by New York Times Bestselling Author, K. Bromberg.

Easton Wylder is baseball royalty. The game is his life. His passion. His everything.

So, when an injury threatens to end Easton’s season early, the team calls in renowned physical therapist, Doc Dalton, to oversee his recovery. Except it’s not Doc who greets Easton for his first session, but rather, his daughter, Scout. She may be feisty, athletic, defiant, and gorgeous, but Easton is left questioning whether she has what it takes to help him.

Scout Dalton’s out to prove a female can handle the pressure of running the physical therapy regimen of an MLB club. And that proof comes in the form of getting phenom Easton Wylder back on the field. But getting him healthy means being hands-on.

And with a man as irresistible as Easton, being hands-on can only lead to one thing, trouble. Because the more she touches him, the more she wants him, and she can’t want him. Not when it’s her job to maintain the club’s best interest, in regards to whether he’s ready to play.

But when sparks fly and fine lines are crossed, can they withstand the heat, or is one of them bound to get burned?

The Long Way Home - about book

I need you, Ava.

I am desperate. For you. For a touch. For a kiss. For the scrape of your hand down my stomach. For the slide of your lips across my hipbone. The sweep of your thigh against mine in the dulcet, drowning darkness. For the warm huff of your breath on my skin and the wet suck of your mouth around me and the building pressure of need reaching release…I am mad with need.

Wild with it.

I cannot have you. I have lost you, as I have lost myself.

And so I go in search. Of myself, and thus the man who might return to you, and take you in his arms.

I loathe each of the thousands of miles between us, but I cannot wish them away, for I hope at the end of my journey I shall find you. Or rather, find myself, and thus…you. Myself, and thus us.

I am taking the long way home, Ava.

***

Christian,

I’m losing my mind, and I don’t know how to stop it. I shouldn’t be writing to you, but I am. I’m friendless, loveless, and lifeless. You’re out there somewhere, and still you’re all I really have. I hate my reliance and dependence on you, emotionally and otherwise, and that reliance is something I’m coming to recognize. I hate that I can’t hate you as much as I want to. I hate that I still love you so much.

I hate that there’s no clear solution to our conundrum. Even if we could forgive each other, what then?

I hate you, Christian. I really do.

But most of all, I don’t.

It’s complicated.

Complicatedly (still) yours,

Ava

Review

When Laurelin Paige first released Micah and Maddie’s story in Take Two, I was captivated by readers’ opportunity to see firsthand how movies are made as well as the behind the scenes’ scoop about a big time movie star having a second chance with someone from his past – a girl who could have been more if Hollywood hadn’t come calling and Micah hadn’t deleted her number looking forward to the bright lights of fame and fortune.

Three years later, with a new title and an editing facelift, Sex Symbol is still one hell of a sexy story and Micah and Maddie’s chemistry is every bit as electric as it was my first go around with their book.

What sets Sex Symbol apart from other movie star romances is the way that Laurelin Paige sets up Micah and Maddie’s past. Despite their brief encounter seven years ago, they both made an impression on each other, so it stands to reason that when they reconnect, there would still be attraction and complicated feelings involved in their reunion. And, even though Micah is now a no strings…no commitment Hollywood movie star and Maddie knows his views on relationships and the minimal role she could possibly play in his life, her control over her body is overpowered by their sexual attraction, so much so that Maddie finds herself falling for a man who constantly tells her that there can’t be anything more than amazing sex between them.

Maddie is one passionate and feisty heroine who tries to live her life being true to herself. Micah complicates her life and her goals more so than she’s willing to admit, which means what she feels for him is dangerous, especially when Micah’s rules prevent him from finally getting the girl the way he so keenly does in his movies.

Micah is the quintessential movie star. He has the looks, the swagger, and the attitude that makes everyone want a piece of him, and for the past seven years, he has taken what and who he has wanted. But wanting Maddie in his bed comes with its own set of complications because not only does Maddie remind him of who he was all those years before but she also seems to show him that choosing his Hollywood lifestyle with its endless supply of booze and beauties has actually cast him in a supporting role when it comes to a true happily ever after.

Sex Symbol is a Hollywood romance story – one between a camera operator who desires to be a director and an actor who wants to shield himself from becoming a has been in the movie industry. Laurelin Paige sure knows how to write sexual tension as well as hot and steamy sex scenes, but it is her complex characters and refreshing plotline that really draws me into her texts – this one included. If you are looking for a fresh take on an ordinary Hollywood storyline, Sex Symbol is the book for you!

About the Author

USA Today and New York Times Bestselling Author Laurelin Paige is a sucker for a good romance and gets giddy anytime there’s kissing, much to the embarrassment of her three daughters. Her husband doesn’t seem to complain, however. When she isn’t reading or writing sexy stories, she’s probably singing, watching Game of Thrones or The Walking Dead, or dreaming of Michael Fassbender. She’s also a proud member of Mensa International though she doesn’t do anything with the organization except use it as material for her bio. She is represented by Rebecca Friedman.

Review

Luca Rizzoli and Gabrielle Fawkes’ first encounter should have perhaps tipped them off about the very different lives that they lead. The fact that they’re both in the hospital for a gun shot wound is where their similarities end; in fact, their lives contrast in almost every aspect, especially when it comes to their career choices.

A cop and a Mafia capo stand on opposite sides of the law – one side believing in justice through proper procedures and what the law dictates while the other side carries out their own style of justice and how they handle things has nothing to do with the right side of the law.

Luca and Gabrielle are fantastically flawed and dynamic characters who both have their reasons for journeying down their respective paths and the complications that they bring to each other’s lives aren’t easy to deal with; in fact, they should be deal breakers when it comes to pursuing one another, but both have never felt as alive as they do when they’re together, so despite the shitstorm that could reign down on them from both sides, their desire for each other overpowers their fears and even their better judgment, causing them to walk a fine line between truth/lies, right/wrong, and family/lovers.

The City of Sin is already a corrupt, drug infested environment, so constructing the mafia world in Castille’s Ruin & Revenge series in Las Vegas adds depth to the story line and allows readers to understand that in a place where anything goes, nothing is what it appears to be and everyone seems to have varying motives and agendas in order to conceal just how far they’re willing to go to secure the only outcome they’ll take.

Sarah Castille does a great job creating and maintaining the gritty and dangerous world for her Made Man and the female detective who realizes that justice isn’t always black and white because sometimes the grey area is the only place anything can get accomplished in order for those affected to move on and heal.

The only aspect of the story that I struggled with a bit was the use of a third perspective to tell different parts of the plot line. I’m not quite sure what this character’s view added to the events or what readers were supposed to understand through it. In some ways, I guess I get why Castille uses his point of view because he has eyes on different aspects in the story that readers can’t see strictly from Luca and Gabrielle, but the parts that were told through his perspective dragged a bit for me and didn’t smoothly blend with the main characters’ point of view.

Overall, I really enjoyed Luka; it’s an intriguing sequence of events that Castille perfectly plays out throughout the story line, and as Luca and Gabrielle work individually and then together to bring down their common enemy, the showdown between them and the reveal of the villain works well with the context clues Castille gives readers at certain points in the story.

The relationship that develops between Luca and Gabrielle is passionate and all-consuming and their connection is framed in a way that there’s no denying how much they care for one another and the risks they’re willing to take to be together even when their love affair is forbidden and could end up getting them both killed.

I can’t wait to return to Castille’s Mafia Men and see what she has planned for Rocco and the rest of his crew.

Review

“Still I Rise”

This phrase has been Savannah Boudreaux’s silent battle cry since readers met her and gained insight into her married life as well as what happened to her once her marriage was over as her siblings’ stories were told. But, in Easy Nights, it’s Van’s turn to illustrate just how poignant that saying is as readers learn, firsthand, how one fateful night categorically changed her in a multitude of ways and what she’s done in the last two years to attempt to regain the control her ex stole from her with every cutting word and every open fist.

Kristen Proby does an amazing job in showing readers Savannah’s inner strength and the steps she’s taken to reclaim her life, making each and every decision for it. Van still may be a work-in-progress, but she’s building herself back up through her Krav Maga training, through her family’s commitment to have her back, and through the kindness and protective nature of Ben Harper – the man who has always held Van’s heart, even when neither of them were willing to admit it. Ben’s consistent praise and his ability to make Van feel beautiful and loved allows her to continue to regain her self-confidence and no longer be the scared and battered woman she’s been for far too long.

Ben is definitely Van’s loyal knight, albeit the tattooed and pierced variety;) It has always been her for him, even when she was deemed off-limits due to Ben’s friendship with her brothers and their families’ connection. But after everything they’ve both been through and the fact that Van trusts Ben and he’s proven time and time again that he has her back regardless of the situation, with the blessing of the Boudreaux brothers, Van and Ben give into their feelings for each other and realize just how good they are together between the sheets and outside of them and how easily Ben’s love for her can slay her most aggressive demons and darkest fears.

I have to admit that there’s a plot line in Easy Nights that, at first, I didn’t understand why it had to be a factor…I thought it would be too repetitive and make Van vulnerable again to everything that occurred before…but the more I thought about it, the more I realized that how Van handled this particular situation was the proof she needed for herself in order to believe that she’s moved past everything she endured with Lance and that she has truly become the badass she is. And by taking back her power, Van illustrated just how much a survivor she is and just how easy it was to remain standing, rising above the darkness, when it came back to bring her down.

I’m so sad to see this series end; I adored ALL of the stories and reveled in the way that Kristen Proby made New Orleans a character in its own right in each of the stories. The series as a whole was magical in the sense that the environment had a hand in bringing the couples together and a certain friendly apparition guided his children in all of their choices, ensuring that they acquired all their hearts’ desire because even without him by their side, they’ve achieved so much in a business sense and now deserve to receive everything they want in their personal lives.

The Boudreaux family will stay with me even though it’s time to say goodbye.

Excerpt

We turn a corner and there it is, my favorite tree. It’s at least four hundred years old, with branches so big and heavy that they rest on the ground.

And under it is a portable swing with a red blanket spread in front of it.

“Oh, my.”

He smiles down at me and leads me to the swing. I sit and kick my flip flops off, and Ben sets the basket in the middle of the blanket and joins me on the swing.

“This is lovely.”

“It’s a good day for it,” he says and rests his arm on the back of the swing, behind my shoulders. His fingertips brush the bare skin on my shoulder. I scoot closer to him and rest my head on his shoulder.

“We spent countless summers out here,” he says quietly, as if speaking too loud will disrupt the perfect spring day.

“We did.”

“And as a teenager, I would see you sitting out here, under this tree, with a book. Your knees pulled up to your chest, and your bare feet dirty as can be. You took my breath away even then.”

I glance up at him in surprise.

“I can’t tell you how often I’d watch you—not in a creepy way, I might add—I’d watch you reading and enjoying this tree, and I wanted so badly to sit with you and kiss you senseless.”

“I didn’t know that.”

“Of course you didn’t,” he says with a gentle smile. “But now you do.”

He nudges my chin up with his fingers and lowers his lips to mine, covering them softly. I cup his face in my hand and let myself simply soak in the moment, in my favorite place, with this man.

He slowly takes the kiss from sweet to hot, and to my delight, drags his hand from my hip to my breast, his thumb dancing over my already tight nipple.

Good God, he’s like a drug that I’ll never get tired of.

After what seems like an hour, he pulls back and rests his forehead against mine.

“I have been waiting for that for a very long time,” he whispers.

“I think this was probably way better than anything you might have done as a teenager.”

He chuckles. “Ture. So, it’s a win-win.”

I let my fingertips glide down his cheeks to his neck.

“Savannah.”

“Yes?”

“I want you,” he says and closes his eyes tightly. “I don’t say that to rush you into anything, and this isn’t the time or place anyway, but I need you to know that I want you.”

I cover his lips with mine, watching his eyes. “I want you too, Ben.”

He inhales and kisses me again, moving straight into hot as fuck.

Finally, he pulls back, clears his throat, and smiles at me.

“Are you hungry?”

I laugh and push my hair off my face. “So hungry.”

“I think Gabby made fried chicken.”

“That sounds good too.”

RELEASE BLITZ AND REVIEW: The Beard Made Me Do It by Lani Lynn Vale

Title: The Beard Made Me Do It

Series: The Dixie Wardens Rejects MC Series #5

Author: Lani Lynn Vale

Release Date: June 28, 2017

Model: Jacob Wilson – https://www.facebook.com/JacobWilsonInk

Photographer:  https://www.facebook.com/FuriousFotog

Goodreads:  https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/34735791-the-beard-made-me-do-it

He’s only a friend.

Those words had haunted him from the moment Jessie James had heard them muttered from the one girl, above all others, that he thought had his back.

Sixteen years later, he still feels those words like a brand on his soul.

Lucky for him he has a son to take care of, a full-time job that demands every single second of the day, and not a single moment to spare for the likes of a woman that won’t stand up for him when he needs her the most.

He’s only a friend.

The words had slipped out of Ellen’s mouth, and before she could recall them or better yet, explain, Jesse is gone from her life for good, taking her heart with him.

She tries to find her way out of the pit of despair, but not one single person, no matter how much she tries, can fill the void that he left in his wake.

Time heals all wounds. Or at least that is how the saying goes.

It’s a crock of crap, though.

Sixteen years pass when Jessie and Ellen see each other again without the influence of the town and bad memories surrounding them, and it’s as if not a single day has passed.

Ellen knows the instant that her eyes see her old love that she’s still just as much in love with him today as she was all those years ago.

The problem is that Jesse wants nothing to do with her. Or at least that’s what he keeps telling himself.

“The want, the need, the passion, the drama and ohhhh THE HAWT ALPHA MC MALE, and look he is on the cover of this book!!! lol Goodness this book gave me the feels and I would love for this book to go on and on…lol” – iScream Books

“The Dixie Warden Rejects MC or as I call it the Bearded MC series just keeps getting better and better and leaves us yearning for more in the end.”  – Smashly Bookalicous Reviewing Chicks

“If you like second chance romances packed with emotion, drama, and action you will definitely want to read this one.” – Cat’s Guilty Pleasures

After being introduced to Jesse and Ellen earlier in the series, their reactions to one another seemed more than just lust at first sight; their connection seemed deeper and the only way that could have been is if they’d known one another before  they met because of their association with the Dixie Wardens. So going into The Beard Made Me Do It, I knew Jesse and Ellen’s past must have been left open-ended, and I was anxious to find out how they truly knew each other and how the nature of their relationship and consequent falling out shaped their future selves – individuals who definitely need closure on their past in order to move forward.

For fourteen years, Ellen’s been trying to come to terms with Jesse’s unexplained exit from her life, comparing every man to her high school love and being unable to settle down with anyone else because her heart still belongs to the man who destroyed it when he left and never came back.

Jesse James has been a single father since the day Linc was born and with the shitstorm that always seems to surround him, he thought letting Ellen go, setting her free to achieve all of her goals was what was best for both of them because Jesse didn’t want to bring Ellen into his maelstrom, especially with how unpredictable it was.

But what neither of them truly understood, until they re-entered one another’s lives all these years later, is that his leaving actually destroyed both of them, breaking them in ways that would only mend with a clear understanding of why Jesse left and then a open-mind as to what a future might look like for them as a couple…as a family of three who share an undeniable connection and an overwhelming amount of love.

I love how Lani Lynn Vale introduces future main characters as supporting characters in the other books in her series because just when readers think they have a handle on who these characters are, forming opinions about them, Vale reveals much needed insight into those characters’ back stories, giving the reasons behind their actions and allowing readers to look at the big picture and understand that these characters really don’t have a choice sometimes because the heart wants what it wants and it does the things it needs to in order to get the happiness it so desperately craves. And this idea is illustrated perfectly in The Beard Made Me Do It.

Ellen and Jesse’s book was an amazing read about sacrifice and the importance of finding a home and a family that truly has your back, even though you’re not blood related. And, Linc’s supporting role added such depth to the story line because the way that he acts and loves is all because of the way Jesse raised him, even when they were dirt poor and only had each other to rely on.

Once again, Ghost makes his presence known multiple times within the story, adding to the mystery of who he is and how he has become a man so skilled at getting information and finding people who truly don’t want to be found, and with Ghost’s story hopefully coming soon, there is a lot of information to sort through in order to truly understand a man who doesn’t want to be known.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW AND GIVEAWAY: Dr. ER by Max Monroe

Blurb

Dr. Erotic.

That’s what they’ve decided to call me, Scott Shepard, the head of St. Luke’s Hospital Emergency Department.

Just thinking about it makes me smile.

As the new face of the reality docuseries, The Doctor Is In, I plan to take his power and recognition right to the streets of New York City and into the pants of willing women.

Well, that was my plan.

Until her—feisty, beautiful, and addictively sexy Harlow Paige.

A gossip columnist that just loves writing about yours truly, she’s everything I thought I never wanted and then some.

She drives me crazy.

Problem is, she doesn’t want to be anything when it comes to me—not friends, not lovers, not even adversaries.

God, I love a good challenge.

Get ready, Harlow. Love is contagious.

Review

Scott Shepard is more than gossip worthy!

I mean…come on…not only is he an exceptional doctor and the head of the Emergency Department at St. Luke’s Hospital, but he’s also making a name for himself as Dr. Erotic in the reality medical show “The Doctor Is In.” And even if he conceals his philandering ways, ensuring they aren’t fodder for the paparazzi or a variety of other social media outlets, his actual reality provides just as much drama and flair to entertain readers, perhaps even giving firsthand scoop to someone who feels like more than just his ordinary good time girl.

It’s Harlow Paige’s job to deliver juicy gossip to her readers as a columnist for Gossip, but who would have thought that the major scoop would be about her time spent with Dr. ER, even the times that don’t end in sinfully hot sex. And, as their time together starts to look a lot like a relationship, something neither of them thought they wanted, that’s when their true story begins, providing a surplus of dramatic moments and unscripted behavior that’s perfect for a new reality show – one that actual has more truths than any scripted show would supply for its viewers.

The court of public opinion can’t get enough of this dirty talking doctor and his feisty antagonistic girl, and because we’re privy to Scott and Harlow’s internal musings and conflicted feelings, readers know just how perfect they are for each other before the characters do and watching it play out provides readers with one hilarious, steamy, and witty story line.

Readers can’t go wrong with a Max Monroe romantic comedy; the authors always seem to create outrageously sexy and unique alpha males – ones who seem larger than life but then are quickly brought down to earth by women who turn their lives inside out in all the best ways, once again, proving that quirky and witty women know how to bring these badasses to their knees.

Scott and Harlow’s story is incredibly entertaining partially because readers never know what’s going to come out of Scott’s filthy mouth or if Harlow’s ever going to stop antagonizing him with her endless evasive maneuvering. But what makes Dr. ER a dynamic read is that Scott and Harlow’s chemistry is in place from the very beginning, so as the characters come to terms with their true feelings for one another, readers get to witness the couple’s reality…every sexual encounter, every sparring word match, and every meaningful moment that leads this reality tv star and gossip columnist to their own version of happily ever after!

Tiny Tease

“Was he the man who was riding when you got injured, Low?” he questioned, and I internally groaned at his ironic choice in words.

The man who was riding? Good Lord, that sounded terrible. And a little too close to the actual scenario…

“No, sir,” Scott answered, and if the strain in his throat was any indication, he was one breath away from losing himself to laughter. “I was, in fact, not doing the riding when your daughter got injured.”

My father looked at me. “If he wasn’t the one riding, then how do you two know each other?”

Fucking fiddlesticks, I needed everyone to stop saying riding before I fainted from discomfort.

Synopsis

Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm me.

Whoever coined that phrase is a bald-faced liar. Words are often the sharpest weapon of all, triggering some of the most powerful emotions a human can experience.

“You’re pregnant.”

“It’s a boy.”

“Your son needs a heart transplant.”

Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm me.

Lies.

Syllables and letters may not be tangible, but they can still destroy your entire life faster than a bullet from a gun.

Two words—that was all it took to extinguish the sun from my sky.

“He’s gone.”

For ten years, the darkness consumed me.

In the end, it was four deep, gravelly words that gave me hope of another sunrise.

“Hi. I’m Porter Reese.”
