The phrase “trust me” should have been my first clue to hightail it out the door, but hindsight is always 20/20.

Tempt Me continues Ryan Hunter and Jamie Archer’s story, and it delves deeper into how easily Ryan controls Jamie’s body and her heart but still struggles to force Jamie’s mind to stop running scared, to stop comparing their relationship to ones that didn’t work in a forever sense.

8 years ago, bad timing and extenuating circumstances prevented Frankie and Mack from building on their close connection; life took them in much different directions, leaving them both heartbroken and alone with nothing but their memories and the hope of what might have been.

Usually when I read one of Ward’s books, my subconscious knows that in order for the couple to be together, there are people who will be left in turmoil, but that feeling, for some reason, was easy to see past because the hero and heroine consumed the story line, making it easy to forget those who were hurt in the process. In Mack Daddy, though, that idea never goes away, and it’s probably due to how these characters are written because it was a bittersweet ending to say the least.

Ward stays true to her big twist nature and reveals information towards the end of Mack Daddy that not only shakes the foundation of many people’s lives, but also makes it a bit easier for Mack to distance himself from people and situations that are toxic and controlling.

8 years ago, Mack and Frankie walked a fine line when it came to their feelings for one another and the emotional affair they seemed to revel in, and even though the circumstances have since altered in a way that sets Mack free to pursue what he truly wants and needs, Frankie is now the one wrapped up in a life she seems to have settled for, even when it’s clear that Mack’s abrupt re-entry into her life is a complete game changer for her heart, her body, and most definitely her memories of their time together all those years ago.

Penelope Ward, once again, filled my reading world with a mountain of angst and turmoil in Mack and Frankie’s slow burn love story, and while it hurts so good to experience all of the anxiety and torture that is involved in a story like Mack Daddy, the payoff is when Ward delivers on what she’s been building up to throughout the story and puts us, her readers, and her hero and heroine in a place where we can take a breath and revel in the outcome.
