From WSJ Bestselling Author Ilsa Madden-Mills comes a new stand-alone contemporary romance.

Fake engaged to the hottest quarterback in the country? SCORE.

They say nothing compares to your first kiss,

But our first kiss was orchestrated for an audience.

Our second kiss . . . that one was REAL.

He cradled my face like he was terrified he’d f*ck it up.

He stared into my eyes until the air buzzed.

Soft and slow, full of sighs and little laughs,

He inhaled me like I was the finest Belgian chocolate,

And he’d never get another piece.

A nip of his teeth, his hand at my waist . . .

And I was lost.

I forgot he was paying me to be his fake fiancée.

I forgot we weren’t REAL.

Our kiss was pure magic, and before you laugh and say those kinds of kisses don’t exist,

Then you’ve never touched lips with Max Kent, the hottest quarterback in college history.

Three months. Two hearts. One fake engagement.

Review

One reason I adore Ilsa Madden-Mills’ stories is because she writes her main characters in such a way that exposes EVERYTHING about them. Readers are privy to their internal musings as well as the reasons behind their outward actions, and even though readers may shake their hands at their choices, we can’t deny that each action makes sense due to how developed the characters are.

Max Kent has a clear vision for his future, and even though there’s been a few bumps in the road due to family and girl issues, he’s remained focused on the sport that will make his life complete – at least according to Max. Football means everything to him, and it’s essential that he keeps his head in the game, not allowing anything else to break his concentration or bother him as he works to win games for his team and the Heisman for himself.

AND…if Max is going to get through his final season as quarterback for Leland University, he definitely doesn’t need any drama when it comes to groupies and ex-girlfriends, so his plan to “fake” a relationship with his neighbor, Sunny Blaine, seems to be in his best interest…too bad the connection between them is anything but fake and the more time they spend together, the messier things get as fiction becomes reality and emotions/actions are driven by true feelings instead of fabricated ones.

Sunny Blaine is quite the prickly spitfire when she and Max meet, and while she has every right to be snippy with the alpha male as their story continues, her hard rule of no longer dating athletes becomes a thing of the past as she finds herself the “fake” girlfriend of the big man on campus and as he works to keep his focus on football, she works to keep her real feelings for her “fake” boyfriend in check because nothing good can come from falling for a guy who sees a sport rather than a person as his everything.

Fake Fiancee is another great story by Ilsa Madden-Mills. The way that Max and Sunny’s relationship evolved isn’t forced or fabricated, which allows readers to garner hope as the fictitious couple realizes their feelings for one another are genuine and deep, and while the obstacles in the way of something real between them seem too complex to endure, the connection between Max and Sunny is more powerful than they realize, especially when major truths about their bond still need to be revealed.

There were parts of the storyline, especially the ones focused on the forces against the couple, that I felt needed deeper investigation for everything to be clear in terms of their respective back stories, but those unknown details didn’t take away from my enjoyment of Max and Sunny’s story…it just left me with a few questions that weren’t really answered.

Max and Sunny’s story illustrates just how difficult it is to fake a relationship that actually means more than either person wants to admit, and because of this, decisions are made that actually do more harm than good when it comes to building a fictitious relationship when true feelings are guiding the way.

Everything happens for a reason, which is clearly shown through Max and Sunny’s relationship because their pasts, presents, and futures are more entwined than they’re able to voice, which definitely complicates things between them but also gives them insight into why anything fake between them will always be real.

Excerpt

Max stalked over to the barrier that divided the stands from the football field and jumped it. The fans went nuts as he brushed past them, some not even realizing it until he was down the aisle. The Jumbotron followed him.

“Good Lordy, what’s he doing?” Mimi asked, clutching at her chest.

“I don’t know,” I said rather weakly, taking the chance to study him the closer he came. He was beautiful, his shoulders impossibly broad. To add to the distraction, his helmet was in his hand and all that dark brown hair was flowing around his chiseled features as if he had a fan in his face. My Viking.

“He’s coming over here,” Mimi commented.

He was. But why?

I stopped breathing . . .right when he came to a halt in front of me and knelt down on one knee.

Eyes the color of a wild ocean gazed at me.

He took my left hand in his right one.

“Max,” I breathed, my heart fluttering.

He gazed up at me. “Sunny Blaine, will you marry me?”

The stadium went wild. In a daze, I looked up at the Jumbotron and felt like I was watching this happen to someone else. Camera phones flashed all around us.

My first clear thought was I’ll kill him.

Aloud, nothing came out but a faint wheeze. Clearly someone had stuffed a giant wad of cotton in my mouth. Clearly I needed something a lot stiffer to drink than this Diet Coke. Clearly my fake boyfriend was a freaking raving lunatic.

He sat his helmet on the ground next to my feet, reached inside it and pulled out a small black box.

No, no, no!

The box opened, and my stomach churned at the sight of the large round solitaire diamond ring that was nestled on the black silk. I blinked repeatedly to clear my vision.

With deft fingers, Max eased it out of the lining and slipped it on my left hand.

I stared down at it. Then back at him.

I was going to murder the hottest quarterback in the country.

Kiss her, Kiss her, the crowd chanted.

We were the focal point of the entire world.

Max stood and tugged me up with him until we were standing. He slid his hand around my neck and pulled his face to mine. The sky was blotted out as he kissed me.

But I hadn’t said yes!

I wouldn’t say yes.

Not to a fake engagement.

The applause of the stadium was deafening. And his kiss—it was deadly. Despite my rage, my body craved him. His lips were hot, so hot, and my tongue met his with a vengeance. We kissed hard, and I nipped at him, my teeth scraping across his lips. But the only one who’d end up bleeding in this scenario was me.

He eased back to take me in, and with a final look at my face he gave a thumbs-up sign to the entire stadium. They went nuts, chanting his name.

“I’m sorry,” he whispered in my ear, letting his hand trail down my arm as he stepped back from me. He walked away backward, eyes on me the entire time. The announcers for the game told everyone who might have missed it that Max Kent had just asked his girlfriend to marry him, and she’d said yes. More cheers came as they replayed him on his knee in front of me with a giant YES written across the top.

I plopped back down in my seat. Frozen.

“. . . did you see her face? Shocked . . .”

“. . . most romantic thing in football . . .”

“. . . luckiest girl in the world . . .”

My face went hot. Even my ears burned. I wanted to crawl under a seat.

God.

What a lie.

The half ended and our offense came out to the field, snapped the ball, and Max threw it straight to Tate who ran it in for another touchdown. My chest constricted and anger churned in my gut.

I didn’t care who won.

I hated football right now.

Most of all, I hated Max Kent, and I was going to make him pay.

Review

Both Juliette Spicer and Caleb Carmichael have a past that prevents them from truly moving forward because their baggage always finds a way to torment them and turn their lives upside down, constantly reminding them what they’ve lost and reinforcing that regardless of how much they fight for their new beginnings and work to transform into a better, stronger, and more able person, unless they truly unburden themselves from their past and keep their focus on their new lives, their pasts will continue to win.

Amity Cross characterizes Juliette in such a way that allows readers to truly understand  why her metamorphosis is a work in progress. Changing her hair, her clothes, her job, and her city has given her a new path to follow, but it’s clear that there will still be successes and failures as she tries to handle her fears, her grief, and her anxiety, and when there are setbacks and all of the old feelings try to take back control, without someone truly seeing her and recognizing what’s beneath her new image/life, it will be incredibly difficult to not succumb to the anxiety that constantly threatens to take over.

Caleb’s past may not be as horrific as Juliette’s history is, but that doesn’t lessen the damage it has done to the man. As someone whose life has been defined by his fists and whose family aligns his value/worth based on his successes in the ring, his inability to continue as a professional fighter is something he needs to get used to and with his father finding fault in every decision he makes, Caleb is left feeling inferior and enraged at his father’s mistreatment.

But meeting Juliette gives Caleb a purpose and brings someone into his life who needs and wants him and also accepts him for the man he is, which allows him to find his own path in life – one that is not defined by his past but more so by love and honesty.

Juliette and Caleb come into each other’s life when they’re needed the most, and while a complete discussion of their pasts doesn’t happen right away, it’s clear that what’s developing between them is a relationship that can help them move forward and provide them with a new passion to hold onto, especially when doubts and fears surface.

Quake is a great addition to Amity Cross’ The Beat and the Pulse series, and Cross continues to illustrate how fighting techniques apply to every facet of life, inside and outside of the ring.

Check out this fantastic sexy romance and grab your copy now!

Ruthless_500

About Ruthless

People call me Ruthless for a reason.

Whether I’m in the court room or in the bedroom, my reputation is well-earned. I’m either working hard, working out, or working my way into some woman’s panties. But none of them share my particular kink, and I walk away feeling unsatisfied.

Until I met her.

She’s a friend of a friend, which makes her off-limits in my book. But then temptation had me by the balls and I had her up against a wall. She literally fucked my world off its axis, but it can’t happen again.

My plan was avoidance, but that got blown to shit when my firm hired her as a new junior attorney. Now I’m her boss, and I’m supposed to act like I don’t want to bend her over my desk every five minutes.

But I’ve never held myself back with anything before, so consequences be damned. It’s time to take what I want and show her how damn good it feels…to be ruthless.

Review

Addison Paige and Roman Reeves have definitely met their match in one another. Both are self-professed control freaks and both are ruthless when it comes to getting what they want in both their personal and professional lives, and it just so happens that despite Roman’s iron will when it comes to following through with his decisions, Addie and her wildcat tendencies overwhelm him in the sexiest and kinkiest of ways, proving that Addison’s self-professed honey badger nickname definitely holds true to form, but she’s also willing to do things the “Ruthless” way, especially if it means seducing, pushing, and pleasing the man who’s captivated her in so many ways.

One aspect of Gina Maxwell’s stories that never fails to tantalize her readers is the intensely hot and passionately sweet encounters her hero and heroine find themselves in, whether it be behind closed doors or in the line of sight of onlookers. A significant part of Maxwell’s couples’ connection centers around them giving into their carnal desires and fulfilling one another’s fantasies in a way that illustrates just how in sync their bodies and their minds seem to be.

What’s particularly intriguing about the dynamics that exist between Addison and Roman is the many different roles they play in one another’s lives. As professionals, Roman is Addison’s boss, helping to shape her as an attorney and giving her firsthand insight into what it takes to win an argument. As a man, Roman wants to dominate Addie’s wildcat personality and prove to her just how good submitting to his commands can be. As an independent woman, Addison is used to having control and not giving a shit about a man’s approval, but as her attraction to Roman expands and her relationship with him grows more significant with every passionate encounter, they’re both thrown off-balance, challenging one another and finding out if their ruthlessness applies to each other or is simply a way to get what they want and keep it

Ruthless is one heck of a scorching read, but it’s about more than just steamy encounters and kinky fucking; it’s a story about finding out one’s personal desires and realizing that the way things have always been may not be what someone truly needs, regardless of how unorthodox learning those ideas is.

Bring on the next playboy to fall in love!

A complimentary copy was provided via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

EXCERPT REVEAL: PUCKED OFF by Helena Hunting

sbpr-po-er

Pucked Off, an all-new STANDALONE from Helena Hunting is coming February 21st!

Pucked Off by Helena Hunting

Publication Date: February 21st, 2017

Genre: Contemporary Romance

businessman working on laptop in black suit

***A Standalone novel in The Pucked Series***

I’m NHL defenseman Lance Romero, AKA Lance “Romance.”

I’m notorious for parties and excess. I have the most penalty minutes in the league. I get into the most fights. I take the most hits. I’m a player on and off the ice. I’m the one women with no inhibitions want.

Not because I like the notoriety, but because I don’t know how to be any other way.

I have secrets. Ones I shared with the wrong person, and she used them against me. Sometimes she still does. I should cut ties. But she makes it difficult, because she’s the kind of bad I deserve.

At least that’s what I believed until someone from my past gets caught up in my present. She’s all the good things in this world. She lights up my dark.

I shouldn’t want her.

But I do.

I should leave her alone.

But I won’t.

Excerpt

I’ve agreed to go out with Lance. On a date. Two actually. I don’t even know what to think. I grab my purse and slip into my jacket. As fall settles in and the temperature drops, layers are becoming necessary.

When I return, Lance is standing at the desk, checking his phone. He’s smiling.

“Ready to go,” I say.

He hits a couple of buttons, pockets his phone, and turns that grin on me. “Cool.”

I lock up the clinic, and Lance walks me across the lot. This time he doesn’t leave the usual space between us, and the back of his hand grazes my hip.

I’m nervous when we reach my car. His Hummer is parked right behind my Mini this time. I adjust the strap of my purse and look up at him. Strangely, he looks as nervous as me.

He scans my face and takes a small step closer. I can see his hand lifting in my peripheral vision. My hair is in a ponytail, which is sitting on my shoulder. He fingers the end of it.

“Why do I always want to pull this?”

I don’t have the opportunity to answer, because he drops his head and his lips skim my cheek.

“I want to kiss you.”

“You just did,” I whisper.

“I want do it again, but here.” His thumb touches my bottom lip.

“Oh.”

He’s so close. His lips almost touching mine as he asks, “Can I do that?”

“Yes, please.”

His lids grow heavy, and he kisses the corner of my mouth. Lance strokes my cheek and rests his palm on the side of my neck. The other hand skims the length of my arm until he reaches my fingertips.

He leans back a little, and for a second I think it’s over before it’s even begun, but he takes my hand in his. Uncurling my fingers, he lifts it and presses my palm against his cheek. A full-body tremor runs through him, and his eyes drift closed. He turns his head toward my palm, and I smooth my thumb along the contour of his bottom lip. A deep sound comes from the back of his throat, making my skin prickle and heat blossom in my belly.

When he opens his eyes again, the fire in them matches the heat flooding my entire body. “Can you keep yer hand right here?”

“If you want me to, yes.”

“I definitely do.”

He leans in and brushes his lips over mine again. It’s soft and warm. The next time he takes my bottom lip between his, he releases it slowly, and then does the same with the top one. When his tongue flicks out, I might whimper. Light fingers cup my head, and I tilt it back farther.

I part my lips, and his tongue sweeps my mouth. His groan is low, sending a shiver down my spine. He drops the hand that’s keeping mine pressed against his cheek. His arm winds around my waist, and he pulls me in tight against him.

I expect the kiss to grow in intensity. It doesn’t, though I can feel the heat building inside me. That feeling I’ve been searching for all these years is finally back.

Mallory Sims is late for her first day of work.

After spilling her tea, she discovers she has no gas in her car. Add that her arm keeps sticking to her dress from syrup left on the console of her car, flustered feels like an understatement.

Then she sees her new boss.

Graham Landry is the epitome of NSFW in his custom-fit suit, black-rimmed glasses, and a look so stern her libido doesn’t stand a chance. Being flustered is just the start of her problems.

Her punctuality is only the start of his. With a pink slip in hand, he’s been waiting on his new secretary to show up only to let her go. Then she rushes in with her doe eyes and rambling excuses, smelling like bacon and lavender. The termination paper falls to the side as she falls in his arms.

This is a disaster in the making. Not because of his pinpoint exactness or her free spirit, but because when they’re together, the sparks that fly threaten to burn the whole place down.

Excerpts

#1

We both know we aren’t just talking about a moved stapler or a mishmash of files. As that really sets in, the air around us gets heavier. Hotter. Hazardous.

“Those things always lead to dangerous situations,” he says, his eyes trained on me.

I shift in my seat, the throb between my legs growing stronger by the second. “People do it every day and survive.”

“They may survive, but don’t things get messy?”

“Only if they do it right.”

His chair flies backwards and he’s to his feet and next to me before I know what’s happening. He doesn’t ask that I stand, but he doesn’t have to. It’s implied and my body reacts accordingly to his silent command.

We stand face-to-face, our breathing ragged. Our chests heave with the anticipation, the possibility, of what might come next.

“You are, quite possibly, the most dangerous of them all,” he says, his voice rough.

“Why is that?” I breathe.

“There’s no plan for you.”

“But you’ve already penciled me in, haven’t you, Graham?” I ask, finding the courage to play this little game with him. Being strictly professional is incredibly hard, and this is way too easy.

I can flirt with the best of them in a bar or on a college campus. But here, with him, it’s a game all its own. A level I had no idea I’d ever be a contender in. Maybe I’m not, but I’m going to play the hell out of it while I’m here … even though if I keep it up, I might not be here for long.

“What do you want, Mallory?”

“I want to do all the things you ask of me and do them better than you ever expected they could be done.”

A rumble emits from his throat as his eyes darken. My knees go weak and I grab the table with my left hand to ensure I don’t fall.

He licks his lips and flips his gaze to my mouth. I think I whimper as I lift my chin, waiting to see what he does next. My entire body is on fire for this man, my heart thumping so hard I’m sure he can hear it.

He moves so my back is pressed against the table, our food long forgotten. His hands are on either side of me, caging me in. Our eyes locked together, he leans in, a slow smirk spreading across his gorgeous face.

“Excuse me, Mr. Landry. Ford is here to see you,” Raza chirps through the line.

We exhale simultaneously, a giggle escaping with mine. There’s nothing funny about this, but the energy has to come out in some way.

“Mr. Landry?” she asks again.

“I’ll be right out. Thank you, Raza.”

“Oh, you’re so welcome, sir.” The line clicks off and Graham marches across the room and punches a button. The light on top indicates he’s not to be disturbed.

I busy myself with cleaning up our lunch, and before he’s at my side again, I have everything bundled up.

“Thanks for lunch,” I say like nothing just happened.

“Mallory …” He runs his hand through his hair, leaving one lock sticking up. Knowing what that will look like if we walk out together, I reach up, hesitating for a split second, before smoothing it out.

His hair is silky against my fingers. He jumps when I touch him at first, but doesn’t back away. “What are you doing?”

“Nothing went on in here. I refuse for it to look like something did. That’s the way rumors get spread, Mr. Landry.”

“Mallory, I …”

I get a final look at his face, reach up and straighten his tie as his eyes go wide, then turn towards the door. “I’ll send Ford in.”

“Mallory!”

“Yeah?” I turn to see him over my shoulder. He’s standing by the table, his hands in his pockets looking frazzled. When he doesn’t respond, I place my hand on the knob. “I’ll have that file back to you before I leave today. Thanks again for lunch.”

I walk out before I can change my mind.

#2

Graham’s tongue darts out, skimming his bottom lip. He’s pinning me against the loveseat with a hand on either side of my face.

“You drive me crazy,” he says, narrowing his eyes. “I try so hard to be on my best behavior around you and you just whittle me down. Every fucking time.”

“Well,” I tease, wrapping my legs around his waist. “I think your ‘best behavior’ is subjective.”

“You know what I mean.”

“And you know what I mean.”

My heels locked at his back, I squeeze my thighs around his waist and pull him closer to me. His lips hover over mine but they don’t touch.

“What exactly do you mean, Mallory?”

I wind my fingers in his hair and tug gently. “I mean this is the Graham I like best. I like seeing you like this.”

“Struggling to keep myself together?”

“Exactly.” Lifting my head, I flick my tongue against his lips. I can feel the heat of his mouth, the taste of his desire. “Don’t try so hard,” I whisper.

“It’s futile anyway,” he says. I barely hear the words as he pulls back. “Stand up.” He climbs off the loveseat, stripping off his shirt. “Now.”

My stomach clenching at the intensity in his eyes, I’m on my feet before I realize I’ve moved.

“Take your dress off. Everything. I want you completely naked.”

The air brushes against my skin as the linen covering my body pools at my feet. As I step out, I watch Graham and almost gasp.

He’s standing in front of me, his cock in his hand, watching my every move. “Bra. Off.”

With a shaky hand, I unclasp the back and throw it at him. He catches it and presses it to his face.

“Now what?” I stand before him, not a thing on my skin. My hair drapes around my shoulders, and despite the fact I’m standing completely naked outside under the watchful eye of this sexy CEO, I don’t feel a bit nervous. Just … admired. That feels better than any orgasm, any accomplishment, any nice words ever spoken to me.

Graham sits again, his legs spread. He’s in complete control, managing the situation not with words or power, but with his eyes. That’s all it takes.

Excerpt

Had he scared her away? Had he been too much of a creeper watching her last night? Maybe it came down to the simple reason that she didn’t practice every day. Or, not at the same time every day. She very likely had a job, and depending on what she did for a living, her hours might not be the same every day. Although, he mused, regardless of whatever it was that she did for a living, he was sure that she should be playing tennis.

Why are you so pressed? She’s just a girl.

No. There was something about her. He just needed the chance to talk to her again. Okay, yes, if he was being totally honest with himself, it was in part because he wanted her, but he also wanted to find out more about her, and why she wasn’t playing the way she should. He couldn’t be the first person who knew about tennis to have seen her play.

“Where d’you think you’re going, gimpy?” A voice called from behind.

Bryce turned to see who’d spoken, and a foot shot out, kicking one of his crutches out from under him and sending him sprawling. Fuck. He landed on his bad knee. He writhed as the pain shot from his knee up his quad and down his shin. “Fuck, fuck. Motherfucker.” In the next moment, a man was on top of him with a switchblade in his face. All he could see was the knife, as sour, cigarette-scented breath fouled up his oxygen supply.

“I want your wallet and your keys,” the asshole demanded. “And if you even think about—”

But the guy’s words were cut off. His head bobbed forward. Something hit him again on the back of his head and he sagged on top of Bryce. He glanced up. Above them, Tami scowled at the guy, her grip on her mangled racket turning her knuckles white.

About The Author

USA Today Best Seller, Nana Malone’s love of all things romance and adventure started with a tattered romantic suspense she “borrowed” from her cousin.

It was a sultry summer afternoon in Ghana, and Nana was a precocious thirteen. She’s been in love with kick butt heroines ever since. With her overactive imagination, and channeling her inner Buffy, it was only a matter a time before she started creating her own characters.

While she waits for her chance at a job as a ninja assassin, in the meantime Nana works out her drama, passion and sass with fictional characters every bit as sassy and kick butt as she thinks she is.

Excerpt

I pull her close, and she winds her arms around me, which makes me almost forget what I was about to say. “What you see is what you get with me.”

“Hmm,” she says as though she doesn’t believe a word. “Big, bad, tough guy on the outside. That’s okay, your secret’s safe with me.”

I snort with laughter. “No secret, Grace.” I like saying her name. “That’s me, inside and out.”

“If you say so.”

“When I get you home, I’ll prove it to you.”

“Do you live far from here?”

With my arm still wrapped around her, I once again make for the door. “Nah. Just a couple of blocks. Won’t take long.”

“Can we pick my luggage up first?”

I pause, hand on doorknob. “Luggage?”

“Yes. From my car. You know, toothbrush and…stuff.” Her cheeks are pink and she gives a little shrug. “If I’m staying the night I need my things.”

“Sure.” My mind fills with the happy vision of Grace in my shower. I pull open the door, keen to get home and put that particular fantasy into action.

Tension vibrates from her as we walk back into the bar. I swagger across the room, ignoring the glances from my brothers and friends, and they soon get the message. Instead of catcalls and jeers, they go back to their business, and Grace gives a relieved sigh as the door swings shut behind us.

“At least it’s stopped raining.” She lowers her umbrella. “That’s my car, over there.”

I glance across the street and there’s no mistaking which car she’s talking about. It’s a silver Mercedes coupe, and if I don’t warn my brothers the car’s off-limits, it’ll be picked clean by morning.

She opens the trunk and takes out an overnight case, then looks at me expectantly, as though she’s waiting for me to haul out the massive case that takes up the entire space. Is she leaving home or going on vacation?

It’s none of my business, and I don’t know why the question even enters my head.

“You need all this shit for one night?”

“No, but I need a change of clothes.” She frowns as though something’s just occurred to her. “Oh, you mean we’re walking to your house? I thought you’d have your car here. It doesn’t matter, I can make do.”

She goes to shut the trunk, and I hold it open. “I don’t have a car.” Seriously, is she really that clueless? Her surprised glance tells me that yeah, she really is. I haul her case out and slam the trunk.

“There’s really no need.” She waves a finger at her case. “I don’t expect you to carry it along the street. It’s too heavy.”

“The hell it is.” Even if the damn thing were full of bricks I wouldn’t back down now. “You better have some killer underwear in here as payback.”
