Dirty Secret is an interesting title for Kennedy and Nix’s story because its meaning speaks to what both of their lives are shrouded in and it also makes it perfectly clear that because lies are a mandatory facet of their lives, neither one of them can truly trust anyone and acts of betrayal are too common place to truly invest in anyone in the criminal underworld they find themselves a part of, which further complicates the idea of the good guys versus the bad ones when, realistically, some could be both. 

Kennedy and Nix are playing a dangerous game, not only with one another, but also with their hearts because even though they believe they’re working one another, in a way, they’re doing a number on themselves because their feelings for one another are wrapped up in how in-sync they are together in bed, so things are personal between them, forcing their lives to be more complicated than they should be when it comes to doing their jobs and remaining out of someone else’s crosshairs.

Kennedy and Nix’s story is an enjoyable read, and the intensity of their attraction and the trouble that brings to their respective jobs is illustrated well. What I had a bit of a hard time with was how quickly things progressed between them, when both needed to remain clear-headed in their dangerous world and also how easily both characters were flipped when it came to what the outcome of Kennedy’s operation would be. 

I get that lust and a strong connection can be game changers when it comes to how things play out but for two people who are portrayed as controlled individuals who refuse to allow complications to get the better of them, how quickly things escalated and the miscalculations they made along the way didn’t mesh well with how Kennedy and Nix ran their lives up until this point, especially Nix because he has way more to lose and his elusiveness has always been his greatest asset.

Even though I had some difficulty with how things played out, Dirty Secret is a hot and suspenseful read that will keep readers guessing until the last page because throughout the story, it’s difficult to tell what kind of a criminal Nix truly is and exactly what the organization that Kennedy works for values when the bad guys are taken down.

I’m a woman on a mission when I step off my last flight at six o’clock at night, annoyed it took me an entire freaking day to get here since I made my plans at the last minute. As soon as I leave the rental car desk, I’m headed for my first destination. Logan’s shop.

He’s never going to know what hit him. My skirt is short, my heels are tall, and my hair, skin, and nails are perfect from the pampering I managed to sneak in this week.

I pull into the parking lot an hour and a half later, mostly because I was so busy singing along to every kick-ass female anthem on my playlist that I missed the turn and went fifteen miles in the wrong direction.

But no one needs to know that little detail.

The lights are still on, and Logan’s truck is parked in its normal spot alongside the building. No other cars remain in the lot.

I pull out my phone and switch it out of airplane mode. I told myself I kept it there all day because I was worried about the safety of my flights and obviously because of the FAA regulations, but that’s total bull.

I didn’t trust myself not to answer what must be at least a few messages from Logan. I wanted this to be a surprise. Like when Logan thought I might be pregnant, this is a discussion that needs to happen in person.

A few text messages pop up from him immediately, and they’re progressively more . . . let’s call it assertive.

MY SEXY MAN: Bruce, call me.

MY SEXY MAN: Seriously, babe. Call me.

MY SEXY MAN: CALL ME.

MY SEXY MAN: This radio silence shit will not fly. Call me, Bruce.

MY SEXY MAN: Banner Regent, don’t even try to dodge me. I know where you are, and I will come to you and show you how a real man handles this situation.

I pull my phone out of my wristlet and text him back.

I’ll admit…I’m a sucker for bad boys…there’s just something about their appearance, their attitude, and their sexiness.

But…

If all REAL GOOD MEN are like Logan Brantley then I just might find myself fawning over the good guys just as much as the bad ones;)

Banner is definitely my kind of heroine. She has just the right amount of bitchiness to hold her own against the Gold Haven debutantes and her sassy New York attitude prevents anyone from walking all over her. Banner loves fiercely, and she’s not afraid to make mistakes or go against someone’s wishes if it’s for the right reason and worth the risk. Banner may be a New Yorker with her brashness and independence, but she’s also a woman who wants to be loved because she puts her whole heart into her relationships even if it gets broken for that very reason.

Logan is a sexy southern gentleman who works hard and plays even harder. The control he takes in every aspect of his life is beyond sexy and the fact that he has charm, wit, and good manners, unless he’s dirtying up Banner, makes him one hell of a good man.

I have to admit that I do understand why some of the Gold Haven women were complete bitches to Banner due to their jealousy of her relationship with Logan. Logan is everything a woman could want in her man and the fact that he chose an outsider to spend his time with while there were so many willing ladies in his hometown ruffled their feathers a bit and brought out their claws, but I never doubted that Banner could hold her own with those southern women!

What I love most about Banner and Logan’s relationship is the fact that they face their issues head on; they don’t allow concerns or conflicts to ruin what they have due to miscommunication. They’re a team regardless of where they are; Banner and Logan had to spend some time apart due to Banner’s need to deal with things in New York and that separation didn’t stall their feelings or make them fear that they couldn’t work due to their different lifestyles or hometowns; it only solidified what they had come to mean to one another and they couldn’t wait to reunite to show each other just how deep their feelings go.

I really enjoyed the conclusion of Banner and Logan’s story, but I didn’t quite understand how one of the plot lines tied into the story as a whole and how the twist affected Banner and Logan’s relationship. Don’t get me wrong it did make for quite a bit of gossip and a whole lot of turmoil in the small town of Gold Haven, which was enjoyable to read about, but in a big picture sense, I didn’t feel that particular part of the story fit into what Banner and Logan were building as a couple.

But despite my minimal issues with Real Good Love, Banner and Logan’s story was a sexy, heartwarming journey that will have readers swooning over every aspect of Logan Brantley and wishing they were Banner so that they good have all of Logan’s goodness in their bed and everywhere else every day of the week;)
