Review

Logan Brantley is definitely a real man; in fact, he seems to define manly in a multitude of ways:

He’s good with his hands, his mouth, and his cock, and he’s all about control and dirty talking when he chooses to take a woman to bed.

Logan’s also worked his ass off to carve out a living for himself as a mechanic, and even though most women in Gold Haven only see him as a man who can take care of them and give into their every whim, he’s more about finding a woman who doesn’t want or need to be taken care of because she can do those things herself and have her back if she needs it.

Banner Regent is the quintessential single Manhattanite,,,the queen of one-nighters and a woman who is all about having a good time but also wanting it to be with a real man, not anyone like the Wall Street types she seems to hook up with just to walk away from at the end of the night.

On paper, Logan and Banner are nothing alike because a redneck and a city girl should have nothing in common, but because their relationship begins over text messages, the only reality that they’re concerned with is getting to know one another and figuring out why they fill a void in one another’s life that no other person can. But things get complicated quickly when text messages turn into face to face conversations – ones that include the use of not only their mouths but plenty of other parts of their bodies as well.

Logan and Banner’s story is one fast-paced, steamy, and dirty talking ride, and I loved every minute of it! Logan is a definite man’s man, and Meghan March does a great job of exploring all of his assets both through Banner’s comments and internal musings as well as the way the women of Gold Haven view him as a hell of a hot commodity.

Banner has to be my favorite Meghan March heroine, which is saying something because she creates some amazing ones. Banner is loud and proud in her party girl persona and she doesn’t sugarcoat her dalliances for anything more than the one-night stands that they are. She’s a foul-mouthed, sarcastic, and witty woman who doesn’t allow anyone to fully see her because she likes keeping parts of herself secret so that maybe people will realize how much they’ve underestimated exactly who Banner is and what makes her, her.

With the ending of Real Good Man, it will be interesting to see what action Logan takes, because despite his and Banner’s chemistry and desire for one another, New York and Kentucky couldn’t be more different, which means uprooting either one of their lives will not be easy and perhaps not even feasible given what Banner has to deal with back in the city, so it begs the question as to how a real good love can occur when there are so many differences and distractions to overcome.

Finally, fifteen minutes after we said we’d meet, Logan Brantley walks into the tapas bar. Every curse word known to woman—and several I make up on the fly—flash through my brain.

“Are you going to kill me?”

She’s trying—and failing—to keep her voice steady. Still, I admire her attempt at composure. I approached her in public to make her feel safer, but she’s too smart to fall for that. If they’ve told her anything about my background, she must realize I can snap her neck faster than she can scream for help.

“No,” I answer, leaning closer as a louder song comes on. “I’m not going to kill you.”

“Then what do you want from me?”

She’s shaking in my hold, and something about that both intrigues and disturbs me. I don’t want her to be afraid of me, but at the same time, I like having her at my mercy. Her fear calls to the predator within me, turning my desire for her into something darker.

I cannot tell you how much I LOVED Commander in Chief…it was everything I hoped and more because Katy Evans didn’t send any over the top issues Matt and Charlotte’s way, and she did a tremendous job of showcasing Matt as the President for the people and the man for Charlotte.

Even though Matt walked away from Charlotte when he became the President-Elect, and she allowed him to because she understood that his position as President is a consuming one, he recognizes rather quickly that his need to have her by his side regardless of how difficult it might be to balance his personal and professional lives is an absolute necessity for him and he refuses to give her up and spends much of the beginning of the book proving to Charlotte and himself that she is meant to be his First Lady in every sense of the word.

Evans depicts Charlotte’s awe at how important the American people are to Matt and how that shows in every move he makes as president throughout the story, and as the years in office progress, Evans doesn’t make Matt and Charlotte’s lives perfect because it’s definitely a struggle to balance duties when it comes to running a country and having a family, but she also illustrates the work both Matt and Charlotte do in order to maintain their loving relationship with one another and extend their passion and commitment to making a difference for the United States and its people.

Throughout the course of the text, Matt remains the people’s President and Charlotte expertly transitions into her First Lady responsibilities, easily garnering the support of the American Public for her relationship with their President and her role/commitment to be an extension of the President’s platform while also executing her own vision and ideas.

Matt’s love and devotion to Charlotte and hers to him never falters despite the complications that arise from Matt’s role as President, and while they will never have a normal relationship because they are constantly in the limelight of the White House, they both work diligently to ensure that when it comes to their personal moments, they will do everything they can to show each other just how essential they are to one another’s life.

Commander in Chief is the perfect conclusion to Matt and Charlotte’s story. It absolutely showcases Katy Evans’ gift with prose because Matt’s speeches to the American public are flawless and his meaningful and sinful words to Charlotte have the desired effect not only on the first lady but readers as well! The political world that Evans creates in her White House series speaks to society’s issues and the hope and need for a president to work to keep his promises and bring the American people together instead of driving them apart.

I remained still, my arms wrapped around my knees, my jean shorts digging into the space where thigh met crotch as my red hair was whipped around my face by a passing breeze.
