My Review

At the end of Crowned by Hate, I had many questions and very few answers, and while I was more than cussing out the author, I also knew there would be, at some point, all the information I needed to understand the tangled web that had been constructed in book one and that it would be unwound in a way that put the pieces of a very complex puzzle back together, perhaps a little bent and broken, but whole, nevertheless. 

There is nothing sane or rational about Bryant and Isa’s story, and rightly so, because the complexity of their characters as well as the conflicts that surround them, that always threaten to destroy everything they’ve worked to build, isn’t concerned with making things easy on them, which means that a straight path to a modicum of happiness isn’t offered; in fact, fate – the fickle bitch that it is – refuses to allow these two characters what they want…what they perhaps even need without some reassurances that they’re strong enough, capable enough, to make their own way, despite the chaos that will, no doubt, fight against them and take them so far to the edge that they can barely hold on, but they must, because weathering the maelstrom that surrounds them is the only way to take back what belongs to them – each other.

And that means that it’s in the nonsensical, the insane, the dangerous, and the hatred that a battle must be waged, and it won’t be until the very end, until all the secrets are known, until Bryant and Isa’s true natures are unraveled and the king and his queen will overcome hatred and even fate to be crowned together.

Amo Jones is beyond deviant and diabolical; she’s a dark romance writer who crafts stories that slowly and meticulously turn sane readers into anything but…but it’s within those pages…within her characters…within the darkened corners of her worlds that we get sucked in and refuse to be released until we’ve had our fill in a way that satisfies until her next book is released.

My Review

The Naughty Princess is quite the ironic name because what readers have learned about Princess Pilar and the way she lives her life in her brother’s story and at the beginning of her own is about as opposite of the word naughty as she can be, but then as the story line moves forward and Pilar gets a small taste of freedom on vacation, she does take some risks, allowing mutual attraction and sizzling chemistry above her royal duties and her crown.

This isn’t technically a case of a good girl going bad…it’s more the idea that a girl who keeps to herself and stays in line according to the dictates of her royal pedigree…finally finds something, or in this case, someone, to take a chance on, and it’s definitely interesting to see such a toe the line and respectful girl let loose a bit and feel like her choices are her own and she doesn’t have to worry about anyone attempting to stop her.

Regardless of how famous Benjamin is and how hard he’s worked to make a name for himself, even if some of that fame is due to his suspected reckless behavior, in the eyes of Pilar’s royal family and her social status, he has no right or way to be a part of her life, especially in the way that he wants to be.

Add that to the fact that he’s a private person, any connection he may want

to have with Princess Pilar will also put him in the public eye – a place he’s uncomfortable to be in, even though he may not have a choice.

Pilar and Benjamin’s story is a quick and steamy read, partly because it’s a novella but also because it focuses on a set amount time, given the getaway that Pilar takes.

And I’m hopeful, Aramis’ story is next.

My Review

Throughout this entire quartet, Edward Fasbender has pushed his wife, Celia, to her limits, in a litany of ways. She’s been torn to shreds by Edward’s biting retorts and brought to her knees by his commanding presence and his need for total dominance when it comes to different areas of their relationship. But through it all, Celia has held her own, despite the emotional torment she endured at her husband’s hands.

It’s easy to trace the power struggle between these two from the very beginning, and while it seemed like Edward always had the upperhand, Celia wielded way more control than she thought. But even more powerful were the secrets that had yet to be shared between them, and the unraveling of those remaining bombshells built up quite the angst and agitation.

I’ve made it more than apparent what my feelings for Celia Warren are/were ever since she was introduced in the Fixed series. But as her and Edward’s story continued to unfold, especially in this last part, I felt sorry for her and had quite the conflicted emotions when it came to one of my absolute favorite book boyfriends, Hudson Pierce. And it absolutely sucked that I had to acknowledge his culpability in everything that went down with his and Celia’s games, and while she most definitely was reprehensible in her words and actions, so was Hudson, and Edward works diligently to make that known.

As much as Rising is about the couple soaring above their tumultuous beginnings, making things work in a way that’s fulfilling, it’s also about Celia’s transformation becoming complete; her finding the man who can handle her and who can love her for who she is and who she becomes, faults and all. And when everything was said and done, when these characters unraveled each other and worked toward something so much different than what they were initially resolved to do, Edward and Celia became exactly what they needed to be for one another.
