I need to remember to be careful with this girl. She’s so… unsure of herself. She seems self-reliant, yet there’s this undercurrent of doubt that I don’t yet understand.

She walks across the studio and pulls a denim jacket from a small closet and shrugs into it, then picks up her bag and slings it over her shoulder. “Are you ready?”

I nod and follow her out, watching as she locks the door then tugs on it to make sure it’s locked. We take the elevator down in silence then hit the sidewalk outside before she asks if we’re walking or driving.

“Driving,” I tell her, nodding to the parking spot I got in front of her building. I unlock the car and open the passenger door for her before walking around and getting behind the wheel.

“This is nice,” she says, glancing around the interior of my Range Rover. “This is more James Bond than FBI though,” she says, with a little wrinkle of her nose, her forehead creasing in concern.

“Are you disappointed?”

She shrugs. “It is a nice car,” she says as she buckles herself in and crosses her legs, resting her hands on her knees. “But I don’t think it’s government-issued.”

I laugh. “It’s not. Does that disappoint you?” I ask, starting the car and merging into traffic.

“I guess it’s okay.” Another shrug.

I take a right onto the Schuylkill and ask if she’s learned any new knock-knock jokes since I last saw her.

She turns her head and gives me a look. “Funny.”

“I’m genuinely curious,” I say. “You were killing it the other night.”

“No. But speaking of killing, did you know that at any given time, there are between twenty and fifty serial killers in the United States? Did you know that?” She turns in her seat to look at me, her eyes wide with interest.

“That’s quite the transition, from knock-knock jokes to serial killers,” I comment while turning on the ramp to the I-676.

“Oh, yeah. Sorry.” She shakes her head. “I just thought it would be fewer.”

“Uh-huh.”

“Like ten. I thought it would be ten. Maybe fifteen.”

“One would think.” I nod. Not really. Who thinks about this shit?

“Wake me in an hour,” he insisted.

“All right.”

“Thanks.” He tugged off his shirt.

With the fabric gone, Nick exposed tribal tattoos that swept up his lean ribs on one side, covered his bulging pectoral, drifted around his solid shoulder before changing direction to cascade down his rippling biceps and thick forearm. Sasha tried not to swallow her tongue as he lay on one side of the bed, closest to the door, and his body stilled.

The title of Saxon and Nary’s story holds many meanings, both to them and those who love them, and while both Saxon and Nary have lived without one another’s love and affection for many years, one incident throws their lives into darkness and misery, forcing Saxon to step up in a multitude of ways and proving that, despite his mistreatment of Nary in the past and his self-loathing, he would finally claim the woman who has always been his and he would work to treat her like the club princess that she is with tender touches, strong, protective arms, and a heart so full of love for her that she would soon learn how much he was through living without.

Even though it was clear from their first meeting that Saxon and Nary belonged together, it took something dark and devious for Saxon to get his head out of his ass. But that’s exactly what it was going to take because his past had a fierce hold on him and nothing would wake him up or release him from that albatross unless the cost was too great a price.

Living Without has all of the components of a true Lila Rose MC story, but it also has more because the Hawks get assistance from a bevy of intelligent and resilient men and women who find a way to use their specific set of skills to payback those who have committed reprehensible crimes against the club, and it’s clear from the onset of the dangerous situation that the Hawks protect their own and those who are responsible for harming anyone who belongs to them will pay in blood and death. But what Nary goes through at the hands of those sadistic bastards is only part of the story, and while it’s a pivotal part, what’s more important is the way that Saxon proves to Nary that it’s always been her, even when he treated her vilely…even when he rejected her time and time again.

And if readers’ hearts don’t belong to Saxon Black by the end of Living Without then they need to reread this book and truly see the man he becomes, which was always there.

And still, there are many who have them but don’t know how to deal with them because the mental and emotional scars are more extensive than the physical scars that everyone can see and those scars threaten to consume them and take away everything positive, leaving them fractured and alone.

Tyler Whitt’s scars consume him, not only the ones from the mining accident but the ones that make him feel worthless and overwhelmed by his life with his wife, Elin. They have a forever kind of love, but Ty’s scars are so deep that walking away was his only option, and by doing so, he refused to see or perhaps was unable to see exactly what his leaving would cost not only himself and his wife but also their love and marriage and now that Elin’s scars include some Ty doesn’t even realize, it’s unclear if they’ll be able to find their way back to each other…to fix their brokenness in a way that will bring them out of their sadness…their individual darkness and into a place that can be rebuilt and where their love can learn to flourish again.

Adriana Locke is a great storyteller – one who knows how to tell heartfelt stories – ones that realistically portray all that must be endured and fought against in order to live the life that people were meant to live. Locke’s characters’ journey is emotional and raw, and it illustrates all aspects of life – not just those that come easily. All readers will be able to connect with Ty and Elin’s struggles and the array of emotions felt by everyone involved, which is exactly why readers read stories that deal with matters of the heart, which is exactly what Locke gives her readers time and time again.

As soon as the call is ended, my finger is in his chest. “You lied to me!”

“Calm down,” he scoffs, clearly entertained by my reaction.

“I’m not calming down! She called you. The girl that you didn’t do anything with.”

I start to march to the door, but his arm is around my waist, dragging me into his arms. “Will you stop acting like this?” he laughs. “What’s wrong with you?”

My arms pinned to my sides, I struggle to break free. “You are what’s wrong with me.”

“Tell you what,” he says, resting his head on the top of my head. “Let’s make a deal.”

“I don’t deal with liars.”

“I don’t normally deal with lunatics, either, but I’m making an exception tonight, so I guess you can too.”

The complete lack of fear or frustration in his voice calms me a little. I stop fighting to pull away.

“Let’s go in and have dinner with our friends. Then we can go to bed and I will tell you everything you want to know about her.” He plants a kiss to the back of my head. “And if you’re a good girl, I’ll let you have my cock after we’re done talking.”

“I doubt I’ll want it,” I sigh, trying to not succumb to him.

“There you go, lying again,” he laughs. Swatting me on my ass towards the house, I reach for his hand. He laces our fingers together and we head inside.

Ridley and Freya’s story is a bit different from the other couples’ stories in Lani Lynn Vale’s Uncertain Saint’s MC series because while there’s still danger and suspense, the plot focuses more on healing Ridley and Freya and allowing them to find a way to move on despite the heartache and painful memories that surround them. Freya is nothing like Ridley’s wife, Aerie, which is exactly why they fit together so well and give one another a new outlook on life and everything that it can be even while they continue to grieve for those they lost.

Ridley proves himself to Freya even though he has a few missteps along the way, and the fact that Freya is so accepting of Ridley’s mistakes and embraces the world in which he lives regardless of the danger it poses illustrates Freya’s strength and her determination to live life to the fullest.

Ridley is definitely an alpha male, but it’s not as in your face as Vale’s other heroes, which makes sense given Freya’s demeanor, how they meet, and the way they get to know one another as the story progresses. I love that readers get to see Apple and Kitt’s relationship from Ridley’s eyes in Dirty Mother. Kitt is a huge part of Ridley’s life and his bond and need to protect her keeps him going even when he doesn’t want to, which is clearly illustrated throughout the story.

Because Lani Lynn Vale has multiple series whose characters live close to one another, readers get to catch up with their favorite characters and then witness just how connected they all are when it comes to helping other people.

Wolf’s up next in the Uncertain Saint’s MC series, and I can’t wait to see what Vale has in store for him. I’m sure whatever happens will rock him to his core and expose what makes him who he is as a man and as a protector.

4 Poison Apples

I listened, wondering where everyone was, when I came to the final hallway that led to the gym.

I came to an abrupt halt when I saw three women crowded around a door, all of them looking in on what was going on on the other side.

“Uhhh,” I said. “What are y’all doing?”

None of them turned, but Lenore, Griffin’s wife, waved me over.

“Come here and see,” she said, holding out her hand for me.

I came, taking her hand, and peered over her shoulder.

My mouth dropped open as I got my first good look at the men in the gym.

No, the fact that nearly all of them were shirtless wasn’t the reason for the flabbergasted look on my face.

Nor was the fact that they all had so much weight on their bars or in their hands

No, it was the fact that nearly all of them were dancing.

To Sexy Back.

Griffin squatted to the beat of the music while Mig did some sort of shimmy with his hips as he did pushups on the ground.

The only one not dancing, out of the whole bunch, was Core, who was busy taping the entire thing from the corner of the room, unbeknownst to everyone else.

Had they known, they probably would’ve been kicking his ass.

But they didn’t know.

They just continued on with what they were doing, oblivious to their audience.

Then Pony came on, and I groaned right along with the rest of the ladies.

It was like Magic Mike, but better.

Much, much better.

Ridley took center stage then, jumping up on the blocks that the men used to do vertical jumps up onto, where he then proceeded to do some raunchy move with his hips that had me all hot and bothered in a matter of seconds.

A big, bad, tattooed biker that had the power to undo me.

“Oh, boy,” Tasha said. “Would you look at that?”

I tore my eyes away from my man to follow where she was pointing, and I started to laugh.

Casten was dipping down low, twisting and bouncing as he curled huge weights that were at least the size of half my body.

That went on like that for four long minutes, and by the time they were finished and laughing, I was fanning myself.

“I think we’re going to be a little late,” I mentioned to the ladies. “I’m needing some…attention.”

Annie, Mig’s woman, tossed me a look over her shoulder that clearly said I wasn’t the only one.

Taking that as my cue, I pushed through the doors.

“I need some time!” I announced to the group as a whole.

All eyes turned to me, but it was my man who was still bouncing on the balls of his feet, all hot and sweaty, his hair and beard slightly damp with his sweat, that had my full attention.

I started to fan myself almost reflexively, and he read me and my needs almost immediately.

He hopped down, walking towards me with a purposeful spring in his step.

He didn’t even bother to speak to me, only bent down slightly once he’d reached me, captured me just under the ass, and carried me out of the room.

I’m a married mother of three.

My kids are all under 5, so I can assure you that they are a handful.

I’ve been with my paramedic husband now for ten years, and we’ve produced three offspring that are nothing like us.

I live in the greatest state in the world, Texas.

I’m Team Hamilton for President, but I’m also Team Matt & Charlotte as a couple, which puts me and every reader of Mr. President into quite the dilemma; it’s been made clear from the beginning of the story that both scenarios won’t end in victory regardless of how much we and the characters themselves want it to happen, so a decision has to be made and either way we decide, the loss will be great.

The political world takes no prisoners, and it also forces its candidates to be brought into the limelight under America’s watchful eyes, and the public has been waiting for Matthew Hamilton to take his rightful place as a presidential candidate…as the prince of America…as the untitled American royalty.

But as the future president of the United States, he belongs to America not to himself, which is exactly why any future with America’s sweetheart, Charlotte Wells, can’t happen, even though she grounds Matt, the man, and he craves her company as much as he craves the public’s votes.
