Review

Charlotte and Tucker may have reunited in Lost, and even though, despite the circumstances surrounding their reunion, they were able to rediscover the bond that’s always been between them, when Found begins, they’re even more absent in each other’s lives because Tucker had to pay for his crimes. By the time Charlotte and Tucker are able to spend more than two hours a week with one another, three years have gone by and both of them have changed. They may have become husband and wife in that time, but it seems to be on paper only because after Tucker’s released from jail, reacclimating himself to the outside world and finding his place in Charlotte’s world is a lot harder than either of them had expected.

Charlotte and Tucker have lost so much time due to impulsive decisions, a meddling mother, and lack of communication, and without Tucker ridding himself of his negative thoughts about tainting Charlotte’s life, they’re never going to get back on track, which would destroy them in irreparable ways.

Carrie Aarons does a great job of illustrating Tucker’s negative thoughts through the flashbacks in jail and his irrational thoughts and feelings about his place in Charlotte’s life. What Tucker feels is realistically depicted, so while it frustrated me because he didn’t seem to understand how deep Charlotte’s feelings are for him, I also felt wrecked by his torment because that’s how he truly felt about himself and all of the issues he caused the woman he loves.

For half of the story, Tucker is not only lost to Charlotte, but he’s also lost to himself, and until he works through that and understands that his mistakes don’t have to define him regardless of how other people feel about him, he’ll never be able to get back his life with Charlotte…he’ll never find the strength to make the most of his life now that he’s out of jail and with his wife.

I really enjoyed the Captive Heart duet; because readers had both Charlotte and Tucker’s perspectives throughout the story, we’re able to understand why their first relationship began and ended and then witness how they found each other once again only to be torn apart by extenuating circumstances. The one part of Found that I struggled with a bit was how they found their way back to each other. I wanted to see more of their progress…see how they finally learned to communicate with one another and once again found the intimacy that they had lost from being apart. I just didn’t feel like I had a complete view of the steps they took to get back to what was important, especially knowing all of the torment that Tucker was feeling even when he and Charlotte were happy.

I loved witnessing Charlotte go from the careful, quite, and reserved girl to a woman who knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to ask for it. Charlotte had to do a lot of things on her own her entire life, but she was finally able to step out of her shell when the only person she had to depend on was herself.

I give him a skeptical look. “You want to show me your dick?”

“If it’ll help convince you.” He drains the last drops of his Scotch and stands up. “Come on, let’s go.”

I stare after him as he walks away.

Is he serious? He’s just going to whip it out? I look around to see if anyone is watching me, then I get up and follow him to the bar’s back hallway, near the restrooms, unable to comprehend why the hell I’m humoring him. This is ridiculous.

Once we’re safely in a private corner, Noah undoes his belt, opens his fly . . . and pulls out a fucking fire hose.

Holy mother of God. My hands fly to my mouth. I want to gasp in shock, but there’s no way I’m giving him the upper hand.

He was right. His cock is nothing short of massive, and it’s not even fully erect right now. Nine inches may actually be a conservative estimate of what it might look like hard. He must destroy men’s egos every time he walks into a locker room. And I don’t even want to think about what he destroys with women . . .

“Meh. I’ve seen bigger,” I force out, fighting to maintain my composure.

Noah chuckles. “I don’t think so, sweetheart.”

“Well, th-that monster is not coming anywhere near my uterus. No, thank you. I prefer to keep my organs intact.”

Noah’s grin widens. “I doubt that, but just to be on the safe side, I’ll ease it in nice and slow. Piece of cake. Plus, you’ve got good health insurance, right?”

“That is not funny, Noah. Now, put that thing away or I’ll remove it.”

I try to sound stern, but my shaking voice and bright red cheeks surely give me away. Why the hell can’t I stop staring?

He chuckles—yeah, the jerk can definitely see right through me—but he obliges, tucking the beast back into its lair.

REVIEW AND EXCERPT TOUR: IDOL by Kristen Callihan

Idol 0 days rectangle

IDOL by Kristen Callihan

Release Day: June 7, 2016

Idol VIP

Libby

I found Killian drunk and sprawled out on my lawn like some lost prince. With the face of a god and the arrogance to match, the pest won’t leave. Sexy, charming, and just a little bit dirty, he’s slowly wearing me down, making me crave more.

He could be mine if I dare to claim him. Problem is, the world thinks he’s theirs. How do you keep an idol when everyone is intent on taking him away?

Killian

As lead singer for the biggest rock band in the world, I lived a life of dreams. It all fell apart with one fateful decision. Now everything is in shambles.

Until Liberty. She’s grouchy, a recluse —and kind of cute. Scratch that. When I get my hands on her, she is scorching hot and more addictive than all the fans who’ve screamed my name.

The world is clamoring for me to get back on stage, but I’m not willing to leave her. I’ve got to find a way to coax the hermit from her shell and keep her with me. Because, with Libby, everything has changed. Everything.

Review

Music is a universal language; it’s a powerful instrument for bringing people together…for filling a void that nothing else can…for providing an outlet for self-expression. It’s an animal in its own right, and it allows for idols to be created – musicians who live and breathe the lyrics, the rhythms, and the stage. It’s an addicting feeling that can seduce in both positive and negative ways, and it’s also a way to pull people out of their shells and set them free.

It’s easy to get lost in the music industry, which is exactly how Killian James felt after 8 years of booze, broads, and tours and especially after almost losing one of his band mates to the darker side of fame. Killian’s lost his way…lost his passion…lost the drive to meet the animal head on…lost the need to entrench himself in his music, and he finds himself hiding away in a place that’s as far away from the spotlight as he can get, and there, he hopes to find a way to let the music back in and remarkably he meets the one person who is able to bring him back to life when no one else could.

Liberty Bell’s passion and knowledge for music ignites her heart and soul just like it does for Killian, but where he thrives on performing, her introverted personality leaves her on the sideline, afraid to showcase her voice and her talent until Killian asks her to take a chance on him and the stage.

Liberty and Killian’s relationship starts off a bit rocky due to how they are introduced to one another, but as they spend more time together, a friendship and attraction develops that is too overwhelming to deny, and even though they come from two very different worlds and Killian’s public persona makes it difficult for Liberty and Killian to just be them, an angsty and exhilarating journey brings Killian back to the music, and it proves to Liberty who she truly is and what she was meant to be.

I’ve read a lot of rocker stories, and most of them follow a similar format, adding in small differences in order for the author to make it his/her own, and while I enjoy them, it does get a bit repetitive to the point that I find myself skimming the pages a bit as I read them. But Idol intrigued me from the start – part of the reason is because of Kristen Callihan’s writing style and character development and the other part is because I absolutely loved how music was a driving force throughout the story. Music is such an integral part of both Killian and Liberty’s life that it makes sense that, that is what allows them to find themselves again and express their feelings for one another when things go a bit sideways due to the pressures of fame and Liberty reaching her dreams.

Idol is a fantastic start to Callihan’s new VIP series, and because she allows her readers to get to know the supporting characters in the first book, I’m already eager to read their stories as well.

Witty banter, filthy, steamy scenes, and a bit of drama and miscommunication thrown into the mix makes Killian and Liberty’s story a must read for lovers of rocker romances and those who understand music’s power in both life and love.

Excerpt

“You know,” I say conversationally, as I kick back, “I want to fuck you right now.”

Libby jerks as if pinched and sits a little straighter, before getting a hold of herself and slouching as if she’s completely chill. Cute.

She gives me a smirk and sips her water before drawling, “And what? Mark your territory? Assert your manly dominance?”

“Yep.” I slide my gaze to hers. “But mostly I just want to fuck you all the time.”

God, I love the way her lips part and body flushes with heat. So subtle, but there all the same. It makes me hard as steel, my balls squeezing tight. I don’t look at her but pretend I’m observing the room. The lights are dimming for the movie now, the empty chairs in front of us obscuring our lower halves.

Slowly my hand falls to space between us and smooths along her hip. She delicately shivers as my fingers trace down her thigh.

“What about you,” I murmur, lightly toying with her skirt in the darkening room. “You want to fuck me, baby doll?”

“Right now, I want to kick you,” she gets out between clenched teeth. “Keep your hands to yourself. There are nosy ass people everywhere.”

“They’re all watching the movie. Not us.” Focusing on the screen, I keep my expression neutral as I ease my hand under her skirt. Her skin is smooth and warm. The movie starts in a blast of music and the familiar old logo as I trace over her knee and up her soft thigh. “And that wasn’t a ‘no.’”

She makes a cute growl in the back of her throat, but her legs part just enough to give me room to delve between them. Her inner thighs are hot and damp, and my cock twitches.

The storyline rolls along, my touch idly roams. Libby remains utterly still but I can practically feel the tension vibrating within her. When the tip of my finger skims the crease where her thigh meets her hip, her breath catches, legs parting wider.

“Have I mentioned how much I appreciated this new skirt-filled wardrobe?” I whisper, lightly drawing circles along her skin.

“Brenna’s idea.” Her hips shift just a bit, following my touch. “Right now, I’m missing my shorts.”

I smile, my eyes on the screen, my fingers drifting to the edge of her panties. “Later, you can put them on and we’ll play ‘Fuck the Farmer’s Daughter.’”

She grunts, a stifled laugh, which turns to a strangled whimper when I pluck her panties. Her voice turns breathy. “I’m trying to watch the damn movie. I’m not interested in fooling around.” She moves a tiny fraction, nudging against my finger.

In the dark, I grin, heat and lust pulling my abs tight. “I’m sorry,” I say, not sorry at all, “But I don’t believe you. I’m gonna have to check.”

About Melanie Jayne

I live on a grain farm southeast of Indianapolis, Indiana with my very patient husband of twenty-five years and our two English Mastiffs, Buster Brown and Ginger. I graduated from Indiana University when it was the #1 party school in the country and I took great pride in helping the school achieve that ranking.

I haven’t figured out what I want to be when I grow up. I change careers every decade. I have worked in retail, a federal courtroom, travelled across the state closing loans, and behind the scenes in a casino.

I’ve always had an active imagination so when a good friend suggested that I try writing a book, I thought why not, it should be fun. It has, but I have had to work very hard to learn how to do it. I am so lucky for the outpouring of advice and education from so many in the industry, plus the hand-holding and cheerleading from My Gurls. I also have an incredible Ad-man-istrative Assistant, who tries to keep me under control. He rolls his eyes so much that I worry about a permanent condition.

When I ‘m not working or writing type stuff, I sleep, watch courtroom TV shows, and sports. I was a competitive pro-am ballroom dancer for ten years and I read as many books as I can.

I love to attend Author-Reader Conventions and look forward to meeting you.

Her Gypsy Beach series will leave you longing to visit the sultry shores of the tiny bohemian beach town, and her erotic romance series, Camden Ranch, will make you certain there is nothing better than a cowboy with some chaps and a plan. The sheer amount of coffee required to keep all of those characters dancing in her head would border on lethal, so she unleashes their engaging stories on page after page of spellbinding reads.

There was something in his eyes, something in the words he said that made me pause though. What if this beautiful man really did need my help? MAN OF MYSTERY – CHAPTER 1

What a day. I sigh and rest my forehead against the steering wheel. After getting called in for my semi-annual appraisal and having all my achievements from the past six months swept under the rug because Karen took credit for them, I can’t imagine how today could get any worse.

Of course, traffic can always worsen any day. It’s warm, too warm to be driving a twenty-year-old rust-bucket without air conditioning. And opening the window does nothing except let in more hot air and fumes from the thousands of cars surrounding me in what has got to be a record for west London. The traffic is spectacularly horrible for a Thursday.

Can’t I catch a fucking break?

I pick up my mobile and after scanning the surrounding vehicles, I figure it’s safe enough to make a call. No coppers around at the moment. The last thing I need is another ticket.

“Hey, Maggie?” I say, greeting the groggy voice on the other end of the line.

“Yeah, Tess, what’s up?”

“Nothing. Same old, life’s a bitch. Shall we go out tonight? I could use the distraction.” The car ahead of me moves but I decide it’s not worth the effort to put mine in first gear, just to creep ahead four feet.

“Sounds great, but I have a date, and then straight to work. Another day perhaps?” Maggie yawns on the other end. Typical, ever since she’s started working the midnight shift at the airport, her routine has been all over the place.

“A date, huh? I’m jealous. Who’s the lucky guy?” I ask, even though I already suspect it’s that guy she works with, Alec, whom she’s been going on about nonstop lately.

“I finally decided enough is enough and asked out Alec. You know nowadays you can’t sit back and wait for men to make the first move. That’s all in the past. The dating scene is all about equal opportunities.”

“Mhm, if you say so. I guess I’m a bit old-fashioned that way.” Which is probably why I haven’t had a date in months.

“Say, you wanna talk about what’s going on? I have a little while before I need to start getting ready.”

“Thanks. Well, as I said. Same old.” I sigh, and squeeze the bridge of my nose to get rid of the beginnings of a tension headache.

“Your boss, Frank-something still bothering you?”

“No, I mean yes. Sort of. I had my appraisal today. Can you believe it? Of all my suggestions which were actually implemented these past six months, none of that was mentioned. That tart I told you about, Karen, presented everything like it was her idea, after making me do the groundwork. And now it looks like I’ve been doing fuck all and I’m not pulling my weight,” I rant.

“I see. Same old indeed. What can you do? People like her will do anything to get ahead, even if it means trampling those in her way. Keep calm, bide your time and return the favor or find another job. No other option.”

“Another job where? I ought to be grateful I have one at all with the way things have been going.” I take a deep breath and grip the steering wheel tighter until my knuckles turn white. I wonder if things ever get easier.

“True. If you ever change your mind on shift work, I could ask around at work?”

“Thanks, Maggie. That’s very sweet. I’ll let you know.” I’m getting desperate, but I’m not ready to work nights. Yet.

“Sure thing, Tess. OK, I’d better have a shower and all. I want to look my best for tonight.”

“Break a leg. And if he turns out to be a dick, I’ll break both of his.”

“Cheers. I’ll let you know how it goes.”

I put down the phone again, feeling slightly better after venting to Maggie. What are friends for, eh? The space in front of my car has opened up even further and I finally do pull ahead.

Metal boxes in all shapes and sizes as far as the eye can see. Perhaps there’s an accident up ahead. It’s going to take at least an hour to get to the motorway from here in this mess. That means I won’t make it home until God knows when.

Urgh. I rest my head back on the steering, wondering if anyone would notice if I had a short nap behind the wheel.

The click of my rear door followed by a gust of air causes a cold shiver to creep down my spine. Someone’s behind me!

“What the hell?” I instinctively snatch up my handbag and phone from the passenger seat while turning around as best I can to face the intruder.

“Shh…” The man cowering half on the back seat makes a calming motion with his hand, but doesn’t look directly at me. My heart is hammering in my throat, threatening to make me freeze up, but I react almost on autopilot anyway.

“Get out! Get the hell out of my car!” I shout, while rummaging furiously in my purse. “I have pepper spray.” My fingers grasp a small deodorant bottle. “And I’m not afraid to use it!”

“Be careful with that, if you blind yourself we’re both done for.” His gentle and calm tone surprises me. If he’s trying to mug me, he’s got a strange technique.

“I… what do you mean, we’re both done for?” I’m still pointing the deodorant bottle in his general direction, but am suddenly not so sure I want to spray him with it.

“I need you to drive. I swear I have a good reason to get into your car. Also, you’ve got that the wrong way around.”

My fingers shake even more intensely as he reaches out for the can, and twists the nozzle in his direction.

“There.”

“Shit. I’m sorry. Thanks. I mean…” Why the hell am I apologizing to this criminal? Still, I feel like a total idiot for threatening to spray him with what is essentially perfume. I suppose it would hurt if it ends up in his eye, but it’s not quite mace, is it? I lower my hand and take a proper look at him.

The stranger is still sort of hiding half in the foot well and half on the seat, skittishly looking out the window, while sneaking glances in my direction. He doesn’t look like a mugger. But then, I’ve never been mugged, how would I know what a mugger looks like?

Still, his suit and shirt make him look more like a businessman than a criminal. Or a waiter perhaps.

“Good thing you’re no longer intent on making me smell like… Lush Lavender, is it? Yeah. Not really my style,” he says with a subtle smile on his face.

A joke, really? Now?

“There’s no accounting for taste,” I respond, while keeping my gaze fixed on his eyes. Green, bright, focused. “Now, if you don’t mind explaining yourself.”

“Of course. What would you say if I told you that there are some very bad people heading to Heathrow right now with a cargo that could destroy the world as we know it?” he says.

“I would ask if you’ve been drinking.” I continue to stare at him, but he’s unfazed by my reaction and smiles again. How is he so calm? This whole thing has got to be a joke.

Sienna Diaz is everyone’s favorite “fat” funny lady. The movie studio executives can’t explain it, but her films are out-grossing all the fit and trim headliners and Hollywood’s most beautiful elite. The simple truth is, everyone loves plus-sized Sienna.

But she has a problem, she can’t read maps and her sense of direction is almost as bad as her comedic timing is stellar. Therefore, when Sienna’s latest starring role takes her to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park she finds herself continually lost while trying to navigate the backroads of Green Valley, Tennessee. Much to her consternation, Sienna’s most frequent savior is a ridiculously handsome, charming, and cheeky Park Ranger by the name of Jethro Winston.

Sienna is accustomed to high levels of man-handsome, so it’s not Jethro’s chiseled features or his perfect physique that make Sienna stutter. It’s his southern charm. And gentlemanly manners. And habit of looking at her too long and too often.

Sienna has successfully navigated the labyrinth of Hollywood heartthrobs. But can she traverse the tenuous trails of Tennessee without losing her head? Or worse, her heart?

Review

Life is all about perception. Positive versus negative. Whichever you choose will affect and more than likely reflect your outcome. -Author Sonya Teclai

Perception is everything, so regardless of how much people don’t want to allow it to have control over how others perceive them and how they perceive themselves, it’s unavoidable, and it definitely plays a role in shaping everyone’s life.

Jethro Winston’s self perception is definitely skewed by his past. Being labeled the disappointment of the family…the one most like his deadbeat father, and the one who has conned, cheated, and lied and got away with it definitely affects who he is, even after five years of clean living – five years of not hurting or using people – five years of improving himself for his family and himself.

Sienna Diaz is America’s sweetheart; she’s a champion for plus sized women because she’s comfortable in her own skin – her size doesn’t matter to her, which only endears her more to a society obsessed with body image. She’s a comedic genius who has become a household name, but with her iconic roles, she has her own labels and societal perceptions – she’s the funny one…the one who doesn’t want to settle down because she would rather be a temporary maneater than someone’s everything.

But to Jethro, Sienna’s his forever chance. She’s the woman he’s been waiting five years for, but in order for Sienna and Jethro to have a chance at something more than fleeting, they need to realize what they are and aren’t capable of according to themselves, not society, not public perception, not past sins.

Boy do I adore the Winston siblings! Each brother as well as Ashley is uniquely eccentric, and they absolutely complement one another. Their relationships have grown leaps and bounds since their mother’s death, and while I can’t wait for Cletus’ story because his views, philosophies, and meddling all illustrate how marvelous he is, Jethro had my heart and my compassion from the start of Grin and Beard It.

Sienna is just the woman to prove to Jethro that he deserves to be happy…that because he has remorse for his wrong doings, he has made amends and his past should no longer affect his future because he’s not that man anymore, and that is clearly illustrated in every gentleman act…in every broad smile…in every kind word and compassionate thought.

Penny Reid never fails to dazzle me with her quirky, lovable characters and her off the wall as well as emotionally charged story lines. Nothing is forced in Reid’s writing; there’s no gaps in her stories or lulls due to filler information. Reid has her own style and she refuses to create anything that doesn’t represent who she is as a writer as well as a person, and that idea is clearly demonstrated in Grin and Beard It.

Jethro and Sienna’s story is a heartwarming, romantic comedy that proves that people are more than their labels and that getting lost just might be the best thing to steer one’s life in the right direction – a path that may not have ever been deemed a possibility, but now that it’s in front of him/her, it’s the one to follow because it offers so much more than every thought possible.

A complimentary copy was provided in exchange for an honest review.

Excerpt

Jethro placed his coffee on the small table and leaned back at an angle on one arm, his long legs stretched out in front of him, crossed at the ankles. My tummy fluttered with excitement as I sat on the floor next to him and picked up the frosted confection. I was going to smudge the corner of my mouth with frosting. And then he was going to lick it off. And then we were going to kiss. And then . . . good things after that. Hopefully including but not limited to rolling around and making out on the carpet. And then sex! Holding Jethro’s eyes with mine, which were heavily lidded and hot with interest, I took a small bite, careful to dab the side of my mouth with the frosting. But then something unexpected happened and it startled me out of my sexy thoughts. The doughnut was insanely delicious. Insanely. Delicious. It was still warm from the oven, and it melted on my tongue. It was sweet, but tempered by a center filled with rich, smooth, bitter high-quality chocolate crème. Unable to help myself, I moaned, “Oh my God.” Jethro’s lips quirked to the side, his eyes on my mouth, and—right on cue—he leaned forward. “You have something just there.” I ignored him, swatting his hand away, and took another bite, speaking around a mouth full of heaven on earth. “Holy shit, this is the best thing I’ve ever tasted.” Jethro rolled his lips between his teeth, his eyes bright with laughter, and watched me devour the doughnut. I continued to moan with each bite, licking and sucking my fingers until it was gone. Completely preoccupied, I didn’t notice the shift in his mood. I was just about to lick off the last of the crème when he caught my wrist, forcing my attention to him. My protest died on my lips as the weight and intensity of his gaze hit me. He looked hungry. To be more precise, he looked ravenous.

Jethro brought my finger to his lips and sucked it into his mouth, his tongue darting out to lick the junction between my index and middle finger. The light, slick touch sent unexpected trembles to my low belly and pulled a soft whimper from the back of my throat. “As I was saying,” his darkened gaze drifted hotly from my eyes to my lips, and he used my hand as leverage to tug me forward, “you have something . . .” He didn’t finish the sentence. Instead he licked the corner of my mouth and then delved his tongue ardently between my lips, caressing mine hungrily. Jethro’s grip on me shifted. His arm came around my waist, supporting me, while my hands cupped his jaw. In a controlled and graceful movement, he rolled me onto my back, held himself above my body, and claimed my mouth. I felt his fingers on my thigh, sliding the hem of my skirt higher, skimming fingertips between my legs. Instinctively, I arched and strained, wanting to be touched, needing him to touch me. “Undo your shirt,” he ordered, pulling his mouth from mine and fastening it to my neck. “Why don’t you—” “Because I’ll rip it off.”

TWIRLED BOND

By Emma Hart

Release Date: July 21

TwirledBond-FINAL-high

If I thought Holly Woods was crazy before, I was wrong.

Devin is finally married. Nonna’s on the wedding warpath. Drake might be getting ideas. His mom just dropped a bombshell, and Bek is caught between a hot as hell FBI agent and my super-sweet little brother.

And I still don’t have the shoe closet Drake promised me when he moved in six months ago.

At least there’s one positive: the old, abandoned Holly Woods Theater is about to reopen, and there’s nothing like a theater opening to bring people together… And make crazy grandmothers forget proposal agendas.

Until that theater comes with a dead body. A very, very, very dead body.

Chaos is coming to town.

Everything I’ve ever known about Holly Woods might just be about to change.

An obsession I couldn’t shake.

Read a Sneak Peek!

“Can I ask you something?” she said, drawing my attention away from the monotony on my computer screen. I looked up to find her eyes dead set on mine. It was unnerving.

She usually tried to avoid direct eye contact with me. Maybe I intimidated her. Perhaps she found me attractive and the idea of lusting after her boss bothered her.

Believe me, it bothered me too.

In a very physical way.

“Go ahead,” I answered, unwilling to break the intimate connection she’d started.

“When you saw me… at the club that night,” she said, her eyes wavering just slightly. “What was it you saw in me? I mean, was it just the clothes?”

My eyebrows furrowed in confusion. Even though I’d said we’d never speak of what happened that drunken night two weeks ago, I saw something in her eyes that needed an answer.

That needed something more.

“Why are you asking?”

“It’s nothing, sorry. I’m being stupid,” she backpedaled, as she began fiddling with the hem of her skirt.

Looking back at our few interactions, I suddenly noticed the difference in how she’d acted today. Her normal never-ending stream of word vomit was there, but behind it, there was an internal struggle going on. The hemline wasn’t the first thing she’d fidgeted with. I’d watched as she’d pulled at the collar of her shirt and then, as if she’d realized what she had done was wrong, quickly lay it flat again.

“Does this have something to do with the way you’re dressed today?”

Pink tinged her cheeks once again.

“You noticed?”

I simply nodded, not trusting myself with words in that moment.

Because I’d more than noticed. It’d been damn hard not to think about anything but.

“A gift from my boyfriend,” she replied. “He said my old clothes didn’t fit in with our new life style. It was a very generous gift,” she added, never forgetting that politeness she’d no doubt been taught since birth.

“But?” I questioned, waiting for her to continue.

“But… I don’t feel like me anymore,” she finally admitted.

“And I’m guessing the night in the club was another gift of his as well?”

It was her turn to nod.

I could see the indecision and worry gnawing at her. Someone like her, sweet, honest and good… she was meant for better things than a life with a man who didn’t appreciate her.

Leaning forward, I made sure she saw the sincerity burning in my eyes as I spoke. “That night in the club, I’ll admit, I noticed the dress first.”

She opened her lips to speak but I held up my hand to stop her, wanting to make my point.

“And today, when you walked in, I couldn’t help but give a second… or third glance at the way that new skirt hugged your ass.”

Her eyes widened at my blatant honesty.

“So yes, the clothes may grab my attention for a moment or two, but the fact that I’m still interested, two weeks later? That’s you, Cara. That’s all you.”

And just like that, I’d crossed the line.

I’d hit on an employee.

And there was no going back from that.
