RELEASE BLITZ AND REVIEW: The Summer Games: Settling the Score by R.S. Grey

Title: The Summer Games: Settling the Score

Author: R.S. Grey

Genre: Sports Romance/Romantic Comedy

Release Date: May 2, 2016

As an Olympic rookie, Andie Foster has spent far more time in her cleats than between the sheets. For 21 years, her Friday nights have consisted of blocking shots rather than taking them. But now that she’s landed in Rio, she’s ready to see for herself if the rumors about the Olympic Village are true:

The athletes are all sex-crazed maniacs…

The committee passes out condoms like candy…

The games continue long after the medals have been handed out…

As Andie walks the line between rumor and reality, she’s forced into the path of Frederick Archibald, a decorated Olympic swimmer and owner of a sexy British accent—too bad he’s unavailable in a way that “it’s complicated” doesn’t even begin to explain.

In other words: off limits.

It doesn’t matter that he has abs that could bring peace to the Middle East and a smile that makes even the Queen blush; Andie fully intends on keeping her focus on the soccer field. But the Village is small. Suffocating. Everywhere Andie goes, Freddie happens to be there—shirtless, wet from the pool, and determined to show her a whole new meaning of the phrase “international affairs”.

Review

I absolutely loved Andie and Freddie’s story.

R.S. Grey creates the perfect setting for two athletes who excel at their respective sports by allowing them to compete in the Olympic Games in Rio and find that their work ethic and determination might also allow them to weather a media storm and the drama that surrounds Freddie’s life due to old fashioned beliefs and customs.

I didn’t think I could love another one of Grey’s couples as much as I do Kinsley and Liam, but Andie and Freddie’s story allowed me to see both of their perspectives, so despite the amount of angst that surrounded them, I was able to understand both of their situations and the reasons behind their actions, helping me to not get too riled up when things go wrong because I still was allowed to see the whole picture, which, I have to admit, keeps me from wanting to throat punch the characters!

Andie Foster is a fantastic heroine; she’s lived a regimented life since starting her push to join the Olympic Soccer team, which means that she’s had little time for anything else, so not only is Rio a place for her to bring home the gold, but it’s also a way for her to live a little…that is if her motherly figures, Kinsley and Becca, allow Andie out of their sight for more than 5 minutes.

“Keep that net clean – get theirs dirty!”

As the goalie for the USA team, Andie has a lot of pressure on her shoulders…she’s a rookie with great hands and definitely guards the net with everything she has but guarding her heart is a lot harder than Andie thought it would be when Freddie Archibald gets under her skin despite everything that threatens to keep them apart.

Freddie Archibald may be known as the bad boy of swimming, but he definitely doesn’t come across that way to Andie. Freddie’s an amazing swimmer, partly because he used the sport as an escape when he lost both his father and his older brother, forcing him to bear the responsibility of his family’s name. He feels an immediate attraction to Andie and although technically he’s unavailable due to his “duty” back in Great Britain, he can’t help but want to know everything about the girl who threw her underwear at him the first time they met.

Another reason this book was off the charts good is Freddie’s sister, Georgie. I would take her as my younger sister any day! I adored her and her role in helping her brother and Andie make it through the maelstrom that occurred during the games. She’s funny, quirky, and honest, which is exactly the type of person our hero and heroine needed in their corner, and I have it on good authority that readers will get to see more of Georgie in the future.

The Summer Games: Settling the Score by RS Grey is exactly the type of story and writing that I’ve come to expect from this author. After finishing each one of her stories, I always come away with a smile on my face because despite the drama her characters face, Grey writes their story in a way that also allows them to experience laughter, attraction, and heat, illustrating that if the good outweighs the bad, even if it sometimes seems insurmountable, a happily ever after is never impossible.

4.5 Poison Apples

I am a lover of books, chocolate, reality TV, black labs, and cold weather. Seriously, if I had it my way, I would be curled up on the couch with all of those things… everyday.

I live in Texas where I spend my free time writing and reading. My favorite authors include Mindy Kaling & Jonathan Safran Foer. I’m a comedy geek and love all things “funny”. Women like Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Mindy Kaling are definitely the biggest inspirations for my writing, though I think my work tends to skew a bit smuttier than theirs.

Review

Moth is an intriguing read that allows readers to work right along with DEA Agent, Moth, in order to bring down a man he’s been chasing for quite some time and also figure out if his brother’s death has anything to do with his case.

But in order to find out the truth, Moth has to go undercover as a college student, and while he’s used to pretending to be someone else, this job is one that will not only risk his life but also his heart because the one person he believes has the answers to his questions is the same woman who may be responsible for his brother’s death, and in order to uncover the necessary information, he’s going to have to cross boundaries that Moth knows he shouldn’t, but he just can’t help but get in deep with a woman who’s leading a double life and has secrets that could harm them both.

Moth definitely proves the idea that things aren’t always as they appear. A lot of the time, people see what they want to see and play roles in order to seek the truth…to seek justice. But, sometimes, the heart overpowers the head and regardless of the need to remain unattached, a connection is made that is risky not only for the case but also for their lives.

Jennifer Foor does a great job of keeping her readers guessing as Moth works the case and seeks justice for his brother. It’s clear from the beginning that Windy Lewis isn’t who she says she is, but whether she’s friend or foe remains in question for most of the story. As much as Moth tries to deny his desire for Windy, he winds up giving in, which might just lead to his downfall or his redemption. But one thing is certain, when every clue has been found and every secret discovered, no one will be the same.

4 Poison Apples

Young and Beautiful woman in white shirt

Excerpt

Right now I don’t give a shit who this chick is. I’m not treating her like a criminal, a victim, or a possible lead. Right now she’s just a beautiful woman I’m dying to fuck. With each stroke of her tongue I’m being hypnotized. She’s wrapping me around her little finger, and if I’m not careful I might get lost in this. It’s too good. She’s too perfect. Her kisses match mine like we’re old lovers. Her hands caress my arms as if she’s done this a thousand times. The more I try to back away the harder it becomes to even consider it. I’m a fiend. She’s my drug. I want to be addicted, because a single kiss has never felt this good.

One kiss. That’s all it takes for this chick to bring me to my knees. As much as I know I need to run out of there and clear my head, I remain. I don’t care about the backlash I’ll get from the guys. I don’t care about the danger, or her real identity. I’m living a lie because I know it’s the only way I can be close to her. My head is in my ass, and as long as it stays there I can continue carrying on this charade.

COVER REVEAL: Wasted Words by Staci Hart

Title: Wasted Words
Author: Staci Hart
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Cover Design: Staci Hart
Photographer: Lauren Perry of Perrywinkle
Release Date: May 19, 2016
Blurb

Some universal truths refuse to be ignored.

Peanut butter and jelly are a match made in heaven. Spaghetti and meatballs are best friends forever. And guys like Tyler Knight don’t go for girls like Cam Emerson.

She knew from the second she met him that he didn’t belong on her bookshelf, the six-foot-six ex-tight end with a face so all-American, it could have sold apple pie. So she shelved him next to the supermodels and rock stars and took her place on her own shelf — the one with the flannel-clad, pasty-faced comic book nerds. Most of her boyfriends have existed between the pages of books, but rather than worrying over her own lacking love life, she puts all her energy into playing Cupid, using her job at the book bar, Wasted Words, as her stomping ground.

Tyler Knight always looks on the bright side. His career-ending injury turned into a job as a sports agent. A horrible breakup led him to Cam, his quirky, smart roommate who is far more beautiful than she realizes. She’s made it perfectly clear she’s not interested in him — not like that at least — but if she ever changes her mind, he won’t hesitate. Because he doesn’t see the lines she’s drawn between them, as much as she insists that they’re there. Deep down he knows that despite their differences, they’re a match well made.

*A romantic comedy inspired by Jane Austen’s Emma*

I claimed her when I was a boy.
I held her until I was a man.
She was my first thought every morning, my last smile at night, and a million memories in between.
Then one night, with her warmth still lingering on the sheets, Aly King walked away from me, from us, from our life.

They say time heals all wounds, but not for me.
Not when my heart is empty.
Not when there is nothing but a sea of meaningless faces wherever I go.
It always comes back to her.

Before we lose our chance.
Before we are irrevocably broken.

REVIEW TOUR AND EXCERPT: When I’m With You by Harper Sloan

WIWYbannermaster

WhenImWithYou_FrontCover_LoRes

Synopsis

Nate:

It’s nearly impossible to be surrounded by love but not understand it. My parents, my sister, and just about everyone around us has no trouble accepting that love. To give your trust to someone else and believe they would die before hurting you. I’ve witnessed it—I’ve seen the power of it—but I’ve also seen the pain. Because for me, I’ve only loved someone I could never have, and my biggest fear is that by giving her my love, all I would do is ruin her. I should have tried harder, but I’m not sure I can because I only feel complete when I’m with her.

Emberlyn:

The only time I feel like I belong is when he’s near. His infectious smile warms me straight to my bones. Any insecurities I have vanish with just a wink from him. A sliver of his attention makes me feel invincible. But all it took was one drunken night of truths for me to lose everything I had begun to crave. Now, I’m not sure how to move on because I only feel complete when I’m with him.

He said I was too young. I said he was perfect. He said our families wouldn’t understand. I said we could weather any storm. He said he would ruin me. And he was right.

Review

Beautiful War –

That’s the perfect description of Ember and Nate’s relationship over the past few years. The beauty comes from the connection that’s always been there between them and the ease of that bond. But the warring of emotions is exactly what forces Nate to break both of their hearts, ruining everything that had been established between them and forcing loneliness upon both of them that they react to in much different ways.

I loved how Nate was portrayed in When I’m With You. Readers have only really seen him as the jokester – the one who knows how to have fun and perhaps seems a little immature – but that’s not the man he truly is, which is what his family and readers learn as they witness his ambition and his need to find his own path, and as he accomplishes everything he sets out to do, even making amends with Ember for breaking her heart on more than one occasion, everyone begins to understand that Nate is a very dynamic person who doesn’t get credit for a lot of things he does. Nate’s Dirty Dog night club is a success because he put everything he had into making his dreams a reality, and even though he gets spread thin between his business and the woman he wants, Nate slowly proves his love to Ember and fights for her in order for her to let go of the past and see everything that they can be together, which demonstrates just how amazing Nate is.

Emberlyn Locke is a passionate woman who may be a little shy and introverted, but her passion is expressed in her paintings and in her love for Nate – a love that since the beginning has tortured her heart and left her feeling all alone. Ember wants to be claimed by Nate, but she’s hesitant to follow her heart because her head can’t let go of the pain he caused her in the past. But there’s an undeniable connection between Ember and Nate, so as much as she’s cautious and tries to have her head guide her heart, she’s powerless to her feelings for Nate and to Nate’s claiming capabilities only reiterating the idea that she has always been his.

Harper Sloan definitely knows how to write steamy scenes between her alpha males and their women, and Nate and Ember’s physical response to one another is off the charts hot because the passion they feel for one another is expressed in every caress, every dirty word, and every sexy movement. Like the other books in the Hope Town series as well as her Corps Security series, there’s some angst and drama to weather, but with the help of their families and the bond that Nate and Ember share, the focus remains on them finding their way back to each other and overcoming everything that’s kept them apart in order to start their life together.

A complimentary copy was provided in exchange for an honest review.

Excerpt

“I want you so bad,” I mumble through the arousal rushing and flowing over every inch of my body, tingling up every nerve and swimming around inside me in overdrive.  “I’ve dreamed of this for so long,” I continue, my words coming out in a pant as I rock my hips.

“Ember,” he warns when I jerk my hips out of his unforgiving hold, giving us both the friction we’re in the need of when my wet and swollen lips slide against his erection.  “Stop,” he barks in a deep rumble, his neck straining as he takes my hips again between his hands.

“Never.”  I let my head roll back and start to pick up my movements, each thrust up getting the attention to my clit that has the burn in my core starting to fire up my spine, wrapping around me as it climbs through my body, gearing up to explode.

“Fuck!” he roars.

Before I realize what’s happening, he’s flipping us.  My head lands in my pillows, just a breath away from the headboard in the center of my bed.  It takes me a second, still clinging to the climax that had been just seconds away from taking over, and I push my hair off my face with both hands.  When I look down my body, I almost retreat when I see the feral expression on the man kneeling between my spread legs.

He takes huge body rocking gulps of air, his chest heaving with their power.  His hair is a loose mess hanging free to dance at his shoulders, a few pieces falling into his face that he either doesn’t notice or just doesn’t care about.

And his eyes are focused downward.

If I didn’t believe he was fighting the same all-consuming feelings as I was, I would have thought that his downcast gaze was for another reason, but seeing those brilliant emerald eyes locked on my very exposed and wet sex, I know that I’m the reason he’s being slammed with a hungered need.

The power I feel seeing his reaction to my excitement is a high I never want to live without.  Something that I will wake up thinking about and fantasize every second we’re apart, trying to think of new ways to make him come alive like this.  That uncontrollable, feverishly strong emotion he’s wearing can only be an aftereffect of our chemistry.  Until it burns so bright that it’s exploding around us like a brilliantly beautiful display of fireworks.

And with that thought, he makes a sound low in his throat, pushing forward in the next breath to cover my body with his as his mouth takes mine in a deep, bruising kiss.  His underwear still keeping him from me completely, but that doesn’t stop him from thrusting against my body as if he was already inside me.  Each time he slams against me, the headboard slaps against the wall and my eyes roll back in my head.

It was foolish of me to think I would ever be able to control this man once I saw the fierceness burning in his scrutiny break free of his careful control.  When I try to push my hands into his hair, he breaks our kiss with a hiss and narrows his eyes at me.

“You’re not to touch me, Ember.  Not at all.  I’m so worked up right now because of you. I’m about to fucking come all over myself and the only place that’s going to feel my fucking come will be the inside of your pussy.  Do not test me by putting those wicked little hands on my body until I can take my time to show you what it’s really like to take while giving.

“Please,” I rasp past my dry throat, needing that so desperately.

“No, not please.  From this point on, the only word I want to hear from your lips is my name.  Moan, groan, scream out your pleasure, but you say no other word than my name.  I want to hear you scream that, Ember,” he stresses with a hard thrust.  “You don’t come until I tell you to,” he rumbles deep in his throat.  I lose his eyes as he bends to trace my ear with the tip of his tongue before whispering against it.  “And when you do, you had better do it loud enough to feel pain in your throat from the pleasure I’ll give your pussy.”

“Take me,” I beg, trying to rock against him, but his weight on me restricts my movements.

“Nate,” he grunts in my ear.  “No more fucking words but my name.  Know who is claiming you.  Let the whole fucking world hear who is taking you and making you his.”

He runs his hands up each of my arms, stretching them out until I can almost feel the edge of my mattress and his hands are curling around my fingers.

“Hold on,” he commands with a wink.

Review

Dane Prescott can give me a golf lesson anytime;)

Gripped was my first read by Joanne Schwehm, and I definitely enjoyed her writing and characters. My preferred perspective when I read is dual first person point of view, which is exactly what readers get in Dane and Beverly’s story. With both characters’ viewpoint, we get a complete look at why both Dane and Beverly don’t do relationships and how the attraction they feel for one another is unlike anything they’ve ever felt.

There are quite a few missteps along the way, which makes sense due to Beverly’s insecurities and Dane’s lifestyle. Golf is Dane’s life; his dream to be a pro is almost realized when he meets Beverly, so any type of relationship they have is going to be a long distance one, and because Dane has never really had a girlfriend, he mishandles some situations, which causes Beverly to doubt his feelings and question if she’ll ever come first in anyone’s life.

Dane Prescott may be a manwhore who can’t even remember the names of the girls he’s had a one night stand with, but with one look at Beverly, he wants to catalog everything about her, which puts him in a difficult situation because no one is going to stand in his way of achieving his goals, but his desire for Beverly and his determination to prove that he’s more than his reputation makes him question exactly what he wants.

Beverly Whitfield has worked hard to become a confident woman after everything she dealt with in high school. She’s an amazing person who gives her time to underprivileged kids, and Dane recognizes how smart, stunning, and giving she is, which is why he fights with her to spend time with him and give him a chance to show her what they can be.

Dane and Beverly’s story is heart warming, steamy, and a bit angsty, and Dane is one hell of a filthy talker who has so much more than just a good set of hands;)

Gripped gives great insight into what determination and hard work can accomplish, both in reaching goals and having a good relationship. It also shows how one’s past may complicate the present, but fighting through those obstacles makes it all worth the pain and heartache.

A complimentary copy was provided in exchange for an honest review.

Clay Maxwell is a smart, quick witted, sex-driven, manwhore with the good looks to match. Plenty of women have shared his bed, but only one has ever been constant, Andrea.

Their rules were simple. When they’re together, it’s just the two of them. When they’re apart, anything is fair game. And it worked. For ten years.

But one of them has changed the game…

Clay must decide if his player ways are worth losing the one girl who has always been there.

“Yet another awesome read from K.A. Linde! Clay is HOT and BAD in the best way possible, you won’t be able to put it down! I literally was begging for more!” -A.L. Jackson, NYT Bestselling Author
