What do you do when the one person who helped you to realize that there’s life after pain and helped change your perspective on life turns out to be the one person you can’t have because the relationship would be seen as inappropriate or taboo in the eyes of society/family?

For Aria, the heroine in Bella Jewel’s newest release, Step-Lover, she tries her best to move on and not be consumed with the heartache that torments her in thinking back to her perfect weekend with the one man who lite her heart and her body on fire, which is easier said than done when said man, who also happens to be her newly acquired step-brother, comes barging in and out of her life on multiple occasions just as consumed by her as she is by him.

Secrets. Lies. Jealousy. Stolen moments. These seem to be all that exist between Aria and Blade as they try to figure out how to be around one another without giving into their feelings because Aria refuses to complicate or ruin her mother’s happiness with Blade’s father because she’s been through enough. But how do Aria and Blade suppress their feelings for each other when they’re everything they’ve always wanted? It’s an absolute mess of a situation that is only compounded by Blade’s hot and cold treatment of Aria and the distance he puts between them in order to not take what he wants and truly needs.

I enjoyed Aria and Blade’s story, but I can see readers being divided in their view of this book, and the main reason is due to the main characters and how they handle the situation of being step siblings.

Since she was eight years old, Aria has had to endure heartache and live without her father and sister, which has left her, understandably, guarded. There’s a fragility to her, which is expressed throughout the text, which might make some readers view her as weak. But I understand why she acts the way she does and holds on to her feelings for Blade; he’s the one who helped her break free from some of the torment and pain from the past, and while I wish she stood up for herself a bit more, I don’t see her as a doormat.

Blade’s lucky he’s hot and ultimately makes up for what he puts Aria through because there were many times in the text when I wanted to knee him in the nuts and slap him in the face. I couldn’t wrap my head around his behavior…maybe it would have helped me to understand by having his point of view, but without it, I didn’t really like him, and I wanted him to get his shit together and stop leaving Aria hanging.

I hope to see how Aria and Blade are doing when Bella Jewel gives readers Brody and Melanie’s story because I need more insight to how everything is working out to redeem Blade a bit in my eyes.

“What the fuck is wrong with you.” The guy that was at the head of the group asks stepping in front of my bike.

I shake my head as words are lodged in my throat.

He pulls me off my bike and the men who are with him begin yelling obscenities as well.

“Sorry.” I croak out and I don’t even know if he hears me his hand goes to the collar of my leather jacket and he shakes me hard and my hand accidently presses down on the button for the Taser to ignite it. The loud crack fills the air and his eyes go wide then he falls to the ground and I fall on my ass and crab walk backwards then look up when I hit something only to meet the eyes of another man who looks pissed.

All of these terms hold the same stymied meaning, and for April Maddox and Decker Brand, memories of their past relationships, wrecked feelings, and putting others before themselves have deterred them from moving on, holding on to the pain that shredded their lives. But with a little help, luck, and a leap of faith, April and Decker try to permeate the walls wrapped around each other’s hearts and open up to the potential that each other could bring to their lives.

I absolutely loved this book! Not only are the main characters vividly portrayed and their complexity examined fully but the honesty and realism that surrounds April and Decker’s story is something that captured my mind and my heart from the very beginning.

The devastation April faced after her scumbag of an ex left her while pregnant and in dealing with being a single mother for numerous years clearly illustrates the emotional torment that any woman in a situation like hers would feel. Lisa N. Paul takes April through the ups and downs of a woman who is holding onto her pain far too tightly and takes her in a direction that allows April to slowly loosen her hold, fighting with herself and those around her to stop cutting herself off to any happiness, especially the one standing in front of her offering her the world.

Decker Brand is 100% swoonworthy. He’s strong, protective, and one hell of a fantastic single father. His relationship with his wife before her death was not ideal, but he always gave everything he had to her and his baby girl. Decker’s baggage is just as heavy as April’s, but, most of the time, he feels ready to move on with April and unfetter himself from his memories, but he knows April’s blockage may take a bit more work. Good thing he’s willing to fight for the woman who completes him in a way he never imagined having.

Blocked is an absolutely gem of a read. It’s humorous, romantic, infuriating, and passionate. The buildup of Decker and April’s relationship is perfectly drawn out and the stops and starts as well as road blocks that seem to get in their way along the path to coupledom as well as creating a family with April’s son, Elijah, and Decker’s daughter, Charlie, clearly show how difficult a past riddled in pain and heartache can be freed by the right person.

I’ve wanted to read Dylan’s story since readers met him in Maddy and Reid’s book. Here’s this kind and compassionate man who is so tormented by his past that he’s existing merely because he has to. I was curious as to how Melissa Collins was going to link Dylan’s past with Shane to his future with the man he chooses to give his heart to after he finally starts living again. The Before/After set-up worked extremely well; it gives us a chance to understand why and how everything happened all those years ago. Using Shane’s point of view added so much to the storyline. To be able to hear it firsthand clearly illustrates how tormented he was and what he was going through that led him to do what he did. It gave me the understanding I needed to put Dylan and Shane’s story to rest and to start Dylan’s new life with Conner.

Let Love Live is an emotional read that explores issues that many people can relate to because they’ve either lived through them or know someone who has. Bullying and prejudice run rampant in our society and the need to put an end to both should be at the top of everyone’s list. The one thing that readers can count on from the Love series is that each book will make you feel an immense amount of emotions. The problems Melissa Collins’ characters face are realistically explored, which makes it that much easier to find yourself consumed in their lives and hoping and praying that everything turns out the way you want it to for not only their sanity but yours as well.

Dylan and Conner’s story leaves readers with the understanding that you love who you love regardless of what anyone else says. It’s a testament to what loss can do to someone as well as what hope and love enable that same person to overcome. It’s another amazing addition to an incredible series.

The lives that Dax and Beckett lead keep them on anything but solid ground. The ground is unbalanced at best due to some circumstances that are beyond their control and others they’re just too afraid to grasp onto alone in order to solidify their footing and steady their paths.

But even though their journeys may have led them in different directions, molding them into quite opposite people, the course they walk together has a healing power that will definitely give them the stability and evenness they both desperately need – they just have to be willing to take it.

“You don’t seem surprised to see me.”

“The bank called earlier to inform me that Miss Colthurst spent twenty-five thousand dollars in one swipe and to confirm that I authorized the transaction. You haven’t used your card in a long time and suddenly you spend thousands of dollars in just minutes.” We enter a large room with wall to wall bookcases that span from the floor up to the ceiling. Behind a mahogany desk, there is a majestic panoramic window that faces the ocean. A familiar setting, but I’m positive that I’ve never been here before. Gabriel closes the door behind us and resumes the conversation. “Logically, I had to find out what you were up to. I feared you’d been in the hospital and with that pride you carry… you wouldn’t call. That’s why I sent Mason to pick you up, I wanted him to make sure you’re alright. He was in the neighborhood.”

Well, he’s here, I’m here, might as well get the party started.

“I wanted you to tell me that what the magazine published is a lie.” I fight with the fist-sized knot in my throat. “But I witnessed that it’s real: a wife, a kid… your first kid, the magazine highlighted that part. Congratulations, I guess.”

I clean the dripping sarcasm from my mouth with the back of my hand.

Those wrinkles around his blue eyes shrink even more. He doesn’t look as young as he does on the cover of magazines. Late fifties look different in front of the cameras, in the media, and, in general. With all the makeup and Photoshop they apply, not many get to see the real face of Gabriel Colt; only a few of us are lucky.

“Ah, that made you crawl outside your little hideout, I see.” He closes his eyes and takes several breaths before opening them again. “Life changed while you were gone, AJ. I don’t think you have the right to burst into my house and make a scene.”

“Your house?” I try to grab the edge of the desk to keep myself from getting caught in the rapids I’m swimming against at the moment. What happened to: “What’s yours is ours?”

“So, I take it you’re not here to apologize?” he dodges my question.

“This house looks a lot like the house in Baja—also looks like home,” I take a few steps and scan the room—avoiding his question.

Two can play the same game. I learned from the best—him.

The answer is simple. Hell, no, I’m not asking him to forgive me. Not when he’s proving that I was right. He lied for a long time. Or, that he only cares about his image and what the rest of the world thinks of him.

“Eight rooms upstairs, I bet. The biggest facing the ocean and it’s right above this library, isn’t it? You never brought us here.” Babbling, faking anger that’s keeping me standing in one piece without shedding a tear. “Can I ask you a question? Actually, just a few things and after that, I swear I’ll disappear forever since that is what you want.”

I cough a couple of times masking the shakiness of my voice. Gabriel sets his hands on his hips and stares at me before he lets a breath out. I take that as a ‘yes’ or a ‘go ahead you poor kid, let’s give this one last time before I start my new family’.
