WORTH THE CHANCE

A New Adult/Adult Contemporary Romance

NYT Bestselling Author Vi Keeland

SYNOPSIS

Meet Liv Michaels

It may have been seven years, but I’d know him anywhere.  Sure, he’s grown, filled out in all the right places, but his captivating blue eyes and cocky grin are exactly the way I remember.  Even though I’d much rather forget.

Liv Michaels is almost there.  She’s smart, determined and weeks away from landing the job she’s dreamed about for years.  Time healed old wounds, even her broken heart from the devastation of being crushed by her first love.

Meet Vince Stone

Women love a fighter, especially a good one.  Lucky for me, I’m damn good.  But there’s one woman that isn’t interested.  Not again, anyway.

Vince ‘The Invincible’ Stone is every woman’s fantasy…strong, sexy, confident and completely in control.  Growing up surrounded by chaos, he’s learned never to get too attached. Love will drag you down.  He adores women, treats them well, puts their own needs before his own…for the night anyway.  With the biggest fight of his life coming up, his focus should be on training.

When fate brings Vince & Liv back together again, there’s no denying the chemistry is still there.  But can Vince erase the old scars their past left behind? Or will Liv hurt him instead?

Review

***ARC was provided by author in exchange for an honest review***

In high school, Liv and Vinny developed a relationship that started as tutor and tutee and then quickly turned to more, but no matter how deep their connection was, Vinny never felt good enough for Liv; he didn’t want to shatter her innocence or nice girl persona with his bad boy lifestyle and attitude, so he walked away, not truly knowing how much he broke her heart until they meet again, unexpectedly, seven and a half years later.

Fast forward seven and a half years and Liv is an intern at the Daily Sun Times; her goal has always been to become a writer, and she’s almost there…she just needs to make it seven more weeks to land a permanent job as a writer for the newspaper. The only things standing in her way is the other intern, Summer, whose father is on the board for the newspaper and her new assignment – interview a “troubled mix martial arts fighter who beats the crap out of people for a living.” Liv doesn’t truly understand how much her life is going to be turned upside down by her initial meeting with this fighter who just so happens to be – Vinny.

Since high school, Vinny’s lived his life hard and fast – women, booze, drugs – he’s dived in head first to all of it, but when Nico gives him an ultimatum – either stop the drugs or he will no longer train Vinny – Vinny wises up and gets clean. One part of Nico’s plan to get Vinny on the straight and narrow is for him to teach self defense classes to women. It’s at one of these classes where Vinny and Liv reunite after all those years, and readers can tell, right away, that the connection they had back in high school is still there, and perhaps, it’s even stronger. But can Liv trust the man who as a boy walked away from her without even a discussion? Can she move past her doubts and fears and give their relationship a chance?

“Sometimes, life gives you a second chance because, just maybe, you weren’t ready the first time around.”

I’m a big fan of Vi Keeland’s writing and stories. I’ve read every book she’s written because her storytelling draws me in and the characters she creates keep me reading. Worth the Chance is another great read; it’s fast paced and steamy with a well developed plot. I’m glad that Vi gave readers Liv and Vinny’s back story because it was essential in understanding Liv’s weariness in moving forward in a relationship with him. In Worth the Fight, readers understood some of the childhood and family difficulties that Vinny faced, but in book two, the situation is presented clearly, and it helps to make sense of Vinny’s choices and personality. There are some twists and turns in Vinny and Liv’s relationship as well as with Liv’s career and what she’s being asked to do, but there is nothing over the top that distracts from the main storyline of their relationship. I did question Vinny’s instant switch from player bad boy to devoted boyfriend as well as Liv’s deception because they just didn’t seem to fit who the characters were, but who’s to say that defining moments can’t alter people as drastically as they did these two. I love that we also are given some insight into how Nico and Elle’s life is going and how much Vinny is still an important part of their lives. Book 3’s lead, Jax, is also introduced briefly, and I am excited to see what happens with him. For those MMA fighter fans out there, this is a series you don’t want to miss!
