Review

***ARC was provided by author in exchange for an honest review***

The definition of entangled is (1) “To twist together or entwine into a confusing mass” (2) “To complicate; to confuse (3) To involve in or as if in tangle

All three definitions perfectly portray Rachel Dennehy’s situation with Drew, Alex, and Jonathan. She’s a confused woman who still feels a pull to the man who betrayed her, Drew, but also finds herself falling for the new version of Alex who readers see in Entangled. The family dynamics with Jonathan’s mother, Drew’s girlfriend, and Alex’s son is a complicated mess that confuses all involved but has a deeper effect on Rachel and Jonathan. The twisted web that is tangled around Rachel, Drew, and Alex can only end two ways – with one winner and one loser or three losers whose lives will never be the same due to unforgiveable choices and unrelenting consequences.

Entangled picks up right where Enticed left off. Rachel is back home in Texas, trying to heal her broken heart, until Alex Fullerton shows up to bring her back to Los Angeles because her departure has turned Jonathan’s world upside down, and he’s acting out in every possible way. Alex believes that only Rachel can turn Jonathan’s world right again, but neither of them realize the damage that’s been done and the bitterness and hatred that Jonathan feels for all involved in this volatile situation.

This time around, Rachel is staying at Alex’s ranch, attempting to keep her distance from Drew, which is easier said than done when he finds out she’s back. Their feelings for each other are still there, but Rachel is determined to learn from her mistakes and choose the one who will protect her heart not the one who can possibly destroy it again. But in any love triangle, there’s always a push and pull between all those involved, and both Alex and Drew believe Rachel belongs with him, and because Rachel has strong feelings for both of the Fullerton men, the end is undoubtedly only the beginning.

Entangled is the perfect title for book two of the Fullerton Family Saga; it’s a word that fits not only Rachel’s relationships with both Alex and Drew, but it also explains her connection to Jonathan as well as Alex’s son, Max. While the first book focused more so on Rachel’s interaction with Drew and Jonathan, book two sheds new light on Alex’s past and present, his relationship with his son, and how Rachel fits into the other Fullerton’s lifestyle; one that is drastically different from Drew’s.

Ginger Voight’s writing style is phenomenal; she pulls her readers into the storyline easily because there’s never a lull in the action; the story is filled with angsty, emotional, and relationship-centered scenes. Her character development helps readers to understand what’s going on behind the scenes – why choices are made – what present actions say about them, and even though I wanted to throw my Kindle and scream “WHY???” at Ginger Voight for tormenting me with Rachel’s actions as I headed into the conclusion, my reaction simply shows how engrossed I am with the Fullertons, and it’s 100% due to Ginger’s storytelling. Bring on Enraptured…even though I’m scared shitless by how it’s going to turn out.

Excerpt

I sucked in a breath as I looked up into those piercing blue eyes that held me captive in their gaze. I hadn’t seen him in months, but his effect on me was no less devastating. My body still burned from his possessive imprint as his eyes traveled over my face and down across my body, which was firing to life just from the echo of his touch. “So you are here,” he said as he pushed his way into the house. “I thought it was a joke.”

I stared after him helplessly. “Drew, I really don’t think you should be here. Jonathan is due any minute…,” I started, but he was quick to cut me off.

“Jonathan’s not coming. I’ve petitioned the judge to prevent Jonathan from being educated here in the home of the man who blew his life apart. Twice,” he added bitterly. “If you want to teach Jonathan, you need to do it either in Elise’s home or in mine.”

I crossed my arms in front of me. “That’s not happening,” I told him.

He sneered at me. “So you’ve switched teams, is that it?”

“No,” I answered. “I’m on the same team I’ve always been on. Team Jonathan.”

Drew chortled. “You really are a piece of work, Miss Dennehy,” he emphasized spitefully. He glanced around his mother’s family home with pained nostalgia on his face. “But I suppose one Fullerton brother is as good as the other. He’s got the fancy home, the big bank account. Nothing as big as mine, of course, but few things are,” he added with an evil sneer. “And of course, a motherless son. That’s the most important piece of the puzzle, is it not?”

I glared at him. “Get out, Drew.”

He stalked toward me. “Truth hurt?” he asked when he stopped a mere inch apart from where I stood.

“You wouldn’t know the truth if you tripped over it,” I gritted between clinched teeth. “Your jealous ranting is wasted when I know you never really wanted me in the first place.”

“You think not?” he asked in a low voice. His eyes were lethal as he closed the gap between us, until his massive, rock-solid chest was pressed against my tightly clenched arms. “Did it only take three months to forget what it felt like to have me inside you?”

I gasped slightly, taken aback by his bold comment. He took advantage of that opportunity to grasp my wrist in one powerful hand and yank me against his body, which was both hard and forbidding. His mouth hovered over mine by a mere breath. “I haven’t forgotten,” he said as his other hand ran down my back and over the curve of my hip. “I dream about you every night. I still feel you wrapped around me, pulling me in deeper and deeper inside of you until I lost myself in all that you are.”

My resolve slipped under the assault of his seductive words. I shook my head. “Drew, please.”

His eyes glittered. “I’ve heard you beg me before. Remember?”

I shuddered in spite of myself. As mad as I had been, as hurt and betrayed, Drew still haunted my dreams. I hadn’t forgotten how I came alive at his touch. Just being this close to him had me flushed with forbidden excitement. I wanted him despite past history and despite my better judgment. I had to remind myself that this was likely another game.

But the hard, insistent bulge pressing against my leg suggested otherwise.

I opened my mouth to protest, and his lips crushed mine. I could taste strong bourbon on his tongue. It was early in the day for him to be drinking. Clearly he had been in a downward spiral similar to his son. It fueled his possessive kiss with anger and entitlement. I began to struggle against him the minute his hand clamped over my breast. “No,” I murmured against his mouth as I tried to pull away, but he held me fast.

“Tell me you don’t want me,” he demanded. “I can feel it in the way your body responds to mine, like it knows whom it belongs to.”

“I belong to no one,” I insisted as I tried to pull away, but he swept me into his arms.

“You think not?” he challenged again as he carried me toward the staircase.

“What are you doing?” I squealed, too afraid to kick myself free and send us toppling down the stairs.

“Claiming what’s mine,” he informed me coldly as he reached the landing.

ginger voightAbout the Author

Ginger Voight is prolific author, freelance writer and optioned screenwriter. Her fiction is diverse, with novels like the edgy, coming-of-age drama DIRTY LITTLE SECRETS, and the fun family adventure for kids of all ages, COMIC SQUAD. Having grown up reading different authors like Danielle Steel and Stephen King, Ginger has always been drawn more to story than to genre. This shows up in her various stories. Titles such as MY IMMORTAL and TASTE OF BLOOD are a delicious, heady mix of horror, suspense, and romance. Genre romance, however, has held a special place in her heart, ever since she read her first Harlequin novel when she was only eleven. As a result, Ginger is making a name for herself writing romances of her own, starring women who look more like the average American woman rather than those traditionally represented in the size-biased American media. Her Rubenesque romances were created especially for those heroines with fuller figures, who can still get the man of their dreams if only they believe they can. Such titles include UNDER TEXAS SKIES, LOVE PLUS ONE, THE GROUPIE TRILOGY, THE FIERCE TRILOGY and PICTURE POSTCARDS. Ginger was included in the best-selling book by Smith Magazine NOT QUITE WHAT I WAS PLANNING, featuring her six-word memoir.
