A bad boy wrapped in a sexy, muscled, grown-up package might be worth a little risk…

Molly Webster has always followed the rules. After an ugly scandal tore apart her childhood and made her the focus of the media’s harsh spotlight, she vowed to live an ordinary life. No fame. No impropriety. No pain. Then she meets Zachary Fox, a tattooed bad boy rocker with a voice like whiskey and sin, and a touch that could become an addiction.

A one-night stand with the hottest rock star on the planet, that’s all it was meant to be…

Fox promises scorching heat and dangerous pleasure, coaxing Molly to extend their one-night stand into a one-month fling. After that, he’ll be gone forever, his life never again intersecting with her own. Sex and sin and sensual indulgence, all with an expiration date. No ties, no regrets. Too late, Molly realizes it isn’t only her body that’s become addicted to Fox, but her heart…

 Review

Rock Star romances are one of my favorite types of reads, so when I saw that Nalini Singh was switching it up a bit and writing in the new adult genre, I knew this was one I needed to check out, and Zachary Fox doesn’t let me down. He exudes the rocker persona and oozes charisma and sex. Used to getting what he wants, Fox sees Molly Webster across the room and has to have her; for some reason, he’s drawn to her in a way that’s never happened to him before, and while it’s perplexing, he makes it his mission to have Molly at least for one night. But Molly’s not Fox’s typical starstruck fan; she definitely is attracted to him and wants to know what it feels like to have her world rocked by the hot lead singer, but she’s also carrying some pretty serious baggage, and the media circus that surrounds Fox’s life is not something Molly’s ready to be exposed to, which might get in the way of Fox’s true intentions with her.

One night turns into one month turns into…

If Fox has any say in the decision, it’s going to turn into as much time as he can get with Molly – maybe even forever, but there are so many variables going against Fox and Molly that he knows he needs to proceed with caution. The biggest obstacle is Molly and her fear of being put back into the spotlight – a place that exposed her in ways she almost didn’t recover from – a place that stripped her of the carefree life and left her merely surviving, playing everything safe. But Fox is there to carry the weight of both of their pasts as they work to turn what was supposed to be one night together into a lifetime of nights together, but only time will tell if Fox can show Molly that the threat of media exposure doesn’t have to rule their lives and that their addiction to each other, both body and soul, can protect them from whatever may come their way.

Overall, I really enjoyed Fox and Molly’s story. It was a bit hard to connect with them at the beginning because their lack of communication got extremely frustrating. They used sex way too much as a way to get out of having difficult discussions, and I just didn’t see how they could make a relationship work when they couldn’t even be honest with each other. I understood Molly’s concerns with Fox’s lifestyle and the media frenzy that circles his every move, but she knew going into their month together how it could play out, so her hot and cold act annoyed me at times. Molly definitely seemed to have two sides to her personality, and towards the end of the story, she gets stronger and realizes that Fox is worth the risks she has to take to be with him. Fox’s determination to be with Molly was a bit bewildering to me at times; clearly, he can have any girl he wants, and he practically has to chase Molly at every turn, but maybe that’s exactly why he wants her – the challenge is something he knows can end up altering his life dramatically and he’s been done with the groupies for some time now.

One aspect of the story that really worked well for me was the supporting characters. Molly’s best friend, Charlie is a rock star all on her own for how she gets Molly to live a little and shed the security blanket she’s been wearing for too long, and her play by play of the situation with her boss was a great addition to the storyline, and I hope readers get to hear more about their angsty situation in the stories to come. Molly’s sister and her situation with David was also something I wanted to find out more about, and thankfully, I’m not going to have to wait too long because Rock Courtship will release soon. I can’t wait to see those memos!

Rock Addiction is a hot read that illustrates how scaring people’s pasts may be and how those scars sometimes dictate too much of their future. Fox’s willingness to stand by and fight for Molly despite the rollercoaster she took him on solidified him as a great book boyfriend. I can’t wait to see where Nalini Singh heads with this series and what she has in store for the other band members and their family/friends.

Fox hadn’t become the lead singer of one of the best-selling rock bands in history by being a shrinking violet. No, he went after what he wanted, no holds barred. And the raw promise he could feel between him and Molly? He had to know where it would lead, the need so strong he hadn’t felt anything like it since the day he’d figured out that music was his escape, the air in his lungs.

Which was why he was leaning against the wall beside Molly’s apartment at five that afternoon, a guitar by his side.

The elevator doors opened at a quarter after the hour, Molly going motionless two steps outside of it, the doors closing silently at her back. Yeah, she hadn’t expected him, but Fox was ready to work with that. Waiting patiently as she took a deep breath and completed the trek down the corridor, he drew in the scent of her, his gaze lingering on the fluttering pulse in her neck.

“How did you get past security?”

Fox smiled slowly at the blurted-out question, wondering if Molly knew how bad she was at hiding her emotions. He liked it, liked that he saw the real Molly, not an illusion she’d created to tempt him—not that she had to do anything but smile to tempt him. “I told you the security sucks.”

Unable to resist, he reached out to run his finger down one creamy cheek flushed with a mix of surprise, passion, and, he was certain, sweet, hot feminine anger. His guess was borne out when Molly unlocked her door with jittery hands and put down her handbag on one corner of the bench, her fingers trembling before she curled them into her palms. “You’re breaking the rules.”

“What rules?” Closing the door, he leaned back on it and willed her to face him. Much as he loved the shape of her from the back, he liked watching those expressive eyes whisper her mood to him.

Shoulders tight, she turned. “This was supposed to be a one-night stand.”

“Ah.” Folding his arms over the plain black of his T-shirt, he said, “How about a one-month stand instead?” He knew he had to play this exactly right. Molly was wary of him, and yeah, he could understand why. To have her in his life beyond a fleeting instant, he’d have to win her trust.

She jerked up her head. “What?”

“Why not? I like you. You like me.” He smiled—because the reason Molly had needed to jerk up her head was that she’d been staring at his chest. “Admit it.”

Sitting down on the bench, she began to unzip her boots, very obviously not looking at him. “You’re okay for a rock star.”

He wanted to bite her, then pet her until she was limp and languid in his arms. “We burn up together.” Deliberately modulating his voice—his instrument—for maximum effect, low and bedroom rough, he saw her fingers stutter on the zipper. “I’m here for a month. It’s an easy equation.”

When the words “Let me think about it” fell from her mouth, he thought she might’ve been as startled as he was, her lips parting on a slight gasp—as if to call back the declaration.
