RELEASE BLITZ AND REVIEW: RUNAWAY ROAD by Devney Perry

Blurb

Londyn McCormack didn’t have a typical childhood. She ran away from home at sixteen, escaping parents more interested in drugs than their daughter. She doesn’t have loving siblings or an adorable pet. Her only family is the five other runaway kids who shared her junkyard home.

Life pulled them all in separate directions, taking her to Boston. For a short time, she thought she’d found something permanent. But after a devastating divorce, she’s running away again, this time to find a lost friend.

She’s driving across the country in her convertible. As a teenager, the rusty car was her shelter. As an adult, it’s her ride to freedom.

Except one flat tire derails her trip. Her life collides with Brooks Cohen. They walked away from the first crash. The second might destroy them both.

Excerpt

“When was the last time you had pie for dinner?”“Can’t say I ever have.”

Her fork dove into the chocolate cream. She hummed and her eyes drifted closed when the bite passed her lips. She savored it, rolling it around in her mouth. The woman had a talented tongue—lucky pie. She moaned again, torturing me with the subtle sound.

She swallowed, then shot me a smile that was pure sex. “You’re missing out.”

I snapped my fingers, raising my hand in the air to flag down the waitress. When she came over, I pointed to Londyn’s plate. “I’ll have that.”

My Review

The word ‘runaway’ has quite a negative connotation, but not all reasons for running away are unwise or poor decisions; sometimes, it’s for survival or protection…sometimes, it’s a way to start over, recreating oneself in a way that was always there just beneath the surface…it just needed a little help to bloom.

Londyn McCormack is one such runaway and even though she’s, once again, running, she’s not doing it to negate responsibilities or to simply get out of unwanted circumstances…she’s running away to find herself
…to start a new life with a fresh perspective. She never ran just to simply run…there always seemed to be something she was searching for to help heal her heart and her soul and she seems to find it in the unlikeliest of circumstances.

The strength that Londyn has, even early on in her life, demonstrates the kind of person she is. She knew at 16 years old that the woman who gave birth to her and her sperm donor weren’t interested in taking care of you, so she got out, and forged her own path and even though it wasn’t easy and she struggled, she still made the right decision for her, making things better or at least trying to live happily and fully.

Like all of Perry’s small-town heroes, Brooks Cohen, is a strong, protective and endearing male lead and what he offers to Londyn is everything she never knew she needed and he’s patient enough to show her just how much. Brooks, undoubtedly, plays a significant role in helping Londyn find her place in life – one that both fills her with love and appreciation as well as allows her to finally feel like she has a home. But as much as Brooks is a pivotal character, this book is wholly Londyn’s and that’s clear in plot line as well as the evolvement of her character as she takes this new and hopefully life-changing journey.

The fact Londyn and Brooks’ relationship is slow burning, despite their mutual attraction, is fitting for what she has already endured and what she’s trying to find, and I love how Brooks was always there to at least help guide her down a path that has him waiting at the end.

Devney Perry’s newest release, Runaway Road, book one in her Runaway series, is a unique, insightful, and soul searching read that will have readers seeking the freedom and the connections that these characters find on the road and with each other.
