I love the small town feel of Brigs Ferry Bay and its inhabitants are quite the intriguing bunch. I also appreciated the author’s approach to both characters’ pasts and what it meant for their present and as difficult as it was to see how Jaxson’s family viewed and treated other people’s personal decisions, in the end, the lessons learned were painful, but necessary.

It seems romance readers either love them or want nothing to do with them and there’s a laundry list of reasons from both sides.
Me, I’ve never read one and didn’t really have the inclination to do so until one of my favorite storytellers, B.B. Reid, revealed the blurb and idea of her just-released romance, LILAC.
The main reason reverse-harem story lines have never really interested me is because I’m a happily ever after kind of reader…I usually need a tidy resolution – one where the hero and heroine profess their love after overcoming so much to end up together and that’s not typically the way these plots play out, focusing more on the fantasy and freedom that comes with a heroine giving her body and heart over to three or more men who take care of her on multiple levels, lavishing her with scintillating experiences that allow her to let herself go and give into sexual encounters that she only imagined playing out in her mind.
And while Braxton Fawn most definitely gets to revel in the attentiveness of three incredibly dynamic, driven, and striking rock stars, what makes her a heroine who readers will love is her strength and her determination to live life according to her own rules…her own desires and to handle the broodiness and alpha hole demeanors of her three tortured leading men.
The depth of the guys’ separate connections with Braxton as well as their dynamics as a foursome, in terms of the music they play, the band they become, and the relationships they create are critical to this story unfolding and the unraveling of just what makes these characters seek the outlets they do and make the choices they make when it comes to life along with matters of the heart and the body.
LILAC is a complex story with a lot of moving parts that intersect and separate as they all work toward some kind of conclusion, not a typical one, but one that fits the multifaceted plot and its characters. I will say that there were some parts that moved slower than I would have liked, but the fact that B.B. provides her readers with all four main characters’ perspectives and the complexities of those characters and their respective pasts is what makes this story so much more than a reverse-harem romance and that requires meticulous introspection and explanation.
I might not read any other reverse harem romances, but I’m glad I stepped out of my comfort zone and let B.B. pop my reverse harem cherry in only the way she can.
