OLT_FrontCover

From New York Times bestselling author, Corinne Michaels, comes a new heartwarming standalone romance.

I’m getting really good at cutting my losses.

First, the husband. Divorcing him was the best decision I ever made. But between single-parenting and job-hunting, I can’t catch my breath. When a celebrity blogging position falls into my lap, I’m determined to succeed.

That is, until I get my first assignment and actually see Noah Frazier for the first time . . . practically naked and dripping wet. My heart races and I forget how to form complete sentences. His chiseled abs, irresistible smirk, and crystal blue eyes are too perfect to be real. So, what do I do? Get drunk and humiliate myself, of course.

I’m ready to forget the awkward night, yet Noah has no intention of allowing me to move on. Instead, he arranges for me to write a feature on him, ensuring a lot more time together. One embarrassing moment after another, one kiss after another, and before I can stop myself, I realize-I’m falling in love with him.

But when the unthinkable happens, can I even blame him for cutting his losses?

What I wouldn’t give for just one last time . . .

Excerpt

Leaning on the bleachers, Chris cracked peanuts between his teeth and spit the shells. I hadn’t seen him in days and it seemed like years. Every time I saw the kick of his hips and the way his lips stretched across his teeth when he smiled, it seemed like the first time.

I watched him.

He watched me.

School started the next day. We’d go back into our different worlds. Would we meet again? Would we see each other at all? We’d grappled with the question by avoiding it.

A waft of smoke from the grills came between us.

We were alone. Surrounded by people, we were alone.

He pitched his peanut bag in the trash and washed it back with a bottle of off-brand cola. When he finished, he sucked in his bottom lip to catch an errant drop.

He tossed the bottle up. It spun in the air, and with a tap of his knuckle on its way down, he sent it into the trash.

I stepped toward him, and he stepped back. Not away. He stepped back toward something, flicking his finger that I should follow.

Easiest decision I’d ever made. It was barely even a decision.

I glanced around for Mom and Dad. They were in the gazebo with Badger, the new mayor, and his staff. Harper and the kids played with the puppies while Johnny and his wife watched. Lance jaunted around the perimeter, peeing on poles whenever he could, nipping back any sibling who got too big for their britches, ever the alpha.

I tilted directions slightly toward the bathrooms, then once past the bleachers, I saw Chris peeking from an alley between the hardware store and the library. I picked up my skirt and ran toward him, cutting the corner so hard I lost my balance. Out of nowhere, his hand was on my arm, keeping me from falling over.

Finger to lips, he led me to a black iron door. He clinked through his keys and opened it, stepping out of the way so I could pass through. We were in an office.

He closed the door with a loud clap, leaving the window as the only light.

“Chris?”

I barely got out the S before his lips kissed his name away. He put his hands on my jaw, keeping it still so he could invade my mouth. It felt good to give it to him. My body lost all its strength, held up only by the electrical currents between us.

“Catherine,” he said in a breath, keeping his lips an inch from my face as he spoke.

“Where are we?”

“Back of the hardware store. I open on Thursdays.”

“What are we going to do? I’m scared.”

“Of me?”

“Of not seeing you anymore.”

“I’ll find you.”

I clutched his shirt as if I’d be swept away without him. “I don’t fit in anywhere. Harper is so smart she tolerates me. The only time I feel right, like I’m part of something, like I belong, is when I’m with you.”

“One more year. Then you can go to college and I’ll come after. We’ll be so far away, we’ll forget our names. When people ask where we’re from, we won’t even know.”

“I don’t know if we’ll make it a year. I feel like they see us. Even now.”

I must have been shaking, because he put his arms around me so tightly it hurt. I loved the pain of his attention. It was the pain of safety, of care, of being broken just enough for release.

“Harder,” I said into his shoulder.

He squeezed me so tightly I could just barely breathe, and the tension rolled off me like water.

He let his arms go slack enough to look me in the face. “We’ll make it. Then I’ll follow you anywhere. I’ll be your puppy dog.”

“Oh, Chris, don’t be silly.”

“Don’t deny me. I’m yours.” He said the last word with a gusto I’d never associated with myself. As if life was something to grab with both hands and free like a bird that could carry us into the sky.

Together, we were freedom.

The bird launched from my chest and flew to my lips when we kissed again. Not a kiss of relief this time, but a kiss of passion. Ours was a kiss that began a string of thoughtless acts.

His hands slid down my body, grazing my breasts, landing at my waist. I felt the hardness under his jeans. I should have been scared, or freaked out, or ashamed, but I wasn’t. I was free.

He broke the kiss and stroked my bottom lip with his thumb. “Should we go back?”

“No.” I took his wrist and put his hand on the triangle below my belly.

He gasped and his lashes fluttered. Seeing that he liked it sent my body to the edge of common sense. This was crazy and I didn’t care. Being the good girl hurt, and this felt good.

“My parents have to stay at the barbecue,” I said. “That’s their job.”

He hesitated. Swallowed hard. Pinched a bit of my skirt fabric.

I nodded.

Review

Any musical group Johnny Outlaw deems worthy of his new label is definitely one that The Resistance’s fans will support, and after being introduced to the the Crow brothers in S.L. Scott’s newest release, Spark, it’s clear that the band is ready for the limelight as long as the trios’ dreams of success align with what the oldest brother, Jet, needs to do in order to get to know and take responsibility for a little boy who comes to mean everything to him.

I’m a huge fan of S.L. Scott’s bad boy rockers, and even though Jet Crow and his brothers are still trying to ‘make it’ in the music scene, they definitely have the musical talent, swagger, and determination to climb the rock and roll charts and become a household name.

But Spark is about so much more than becoming a successful musician; in fact, music plays a secondary role throughout much of Jet and Hannah’s story. At its core, Spark focuses on a single father doing right by a son he never knew he had until the little boy was 6 years old and the mess that’s created by this revelation and the people who deliberately interfere in order to keep father/son apart for dubious reasons.

Scott introduces readers to a multitude of new characters in Spark – ones who will hopefully have their own story told, but the one character who absolutely stole the show is Alfie – Jet’s son, Hannah’s cousin, and the most amazing and caring little boy. Alfie is the reason that Hannah enters Jet’s life…he’s the reason that Jet finds every day a little brighter and now that Jet has someone else to protect, he steps up like he did for his brothers all those years ago after his mom passed away.

Jet’s love interest, Hannah Nichols, definitely has her own issues to sort through when it comes to her place in Jet’s life as well as the amount of time she gets to spend with Alfie. Hannah’s backstory is not a happy one, and while she made me a bit frustrated, at times, due to her hot and cold demeanor, readers can’t help but feel for her because she’s in an incredibly difficult position when it comes to what’s best for the little boy who has become her world and the man who is nothing like the man her cousin and her aunt have made him out to be.

Readers can’t help but hope Hannah is able to sift through all of the lies and realize that the connection she shares with Jet is something that could make her past pain hurt a little bit less and give her a future full of love and happiness, two things she hasn’t felt much of based on her past choices and her family members’ neglect.

Jet and Hannah’s story is a sweet, heartfelt, and steamy read that will have readers rooting for the Crow brothers to be successful in the music industry and for Jet, Hannah, and Alfie to become a family in every sense of the word. Fans of The Resistance and Johnny Outlaw will love the advice and the chance they give to the Crow trio, making them one big happy rock and roll family.

All is lost.

All.
I don’t recognize myself in the mirror anymore.
My thoughts are filled with hatred and dripping with rage.
I’ve lost my soul.
She took it to the depths of Hell with her and haunts me with images of what could have been.
Sixty lives are mine to take.
Sixty lives stand in the way of my vengeance.
Sixty lives plus one more.
Mine.
When the last drop of blood falls – mine will be spilled.
Only one person stands in the way.
She doesn’t realize I’ll kill her too.
I don’t own a heart.
And even if I did – I wouldn’t fall prey to its lies again.
I am Chase Abandonato.
Heir to a legacy of betrayal.
And I will kill them all.
Even if it means pointing the gun at myself.
A life for a life.
A soul for a soul.

Now I lay me down to sleep… I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
Blood in. No out.

Review

If there’s one thing I’ve learned about Rachel Van Dyken’s Eagle Elite series and the mafia family members who she built the series around, it’s that there is always a price to pay in order to retain power…in order to right injustices…in order to deal with the sins of the past. Throughout the series, readers have watched their favorite mob members attempt to find, not only a balance, but a bit of peace amidst the maelstrom that constantly reigns down on their lives due to the nature of their business dealings and the number of enemies who are constantly looking for a way to bring them down. But nothing could have prepared readers for the amount of loss, rage, and dark, raw emotions that would resonate from the pages of Enrage when Chase Abandonato lost EVERYTHING.

Eulogy is an apt name for book 9/the continuation of Chase’s story. He’s a shell of a man when the book begins, and he remains closed off, pissed off, and tortured by his memories. No one can get through to him, and it’s not for lack of trying. But when it comes down to it, there is not a single person alive who can pull Chase from the depths of hell he’s placed himself. He feels betrayed, and that changes a man, and boy does it change every facet of who Chase is/was. In his opinion, there’s no going back…it’s impossible due to the difficult circumstances and harsh truths he now must face. Chase is a broken man, and he’s unhinged in ways that nobody else can imagine unless they went through the same kind of hell Chase did, and while Chase and his mafia family have endured hellacious situations, none of them besides Chase has every faced something that has stripped them of every last ounce of happiness, kindness, and love…at least when it comes to the person who was supposed to be your soul mate.

The true skill of a writer is in her ability to create a character who, at first, seems one dimensional, but then becomes multifaceted due to a complication in the story that requires that character to begin anew…to wash away the person he once was because it hasn’t seemed to have done him any favors and to build himself up again, changing his demeanor, the way he handles things, and what he’s willing to do to get the one thing that he craves, which in Chase’s case is to reign down hell and fury on all those who betrayed him and took everything away from him.

It’s difficult to witness Chase’s downward spiral because most readers love the easy going guy who wore his heart on his sleeve, even though he had already been burned by love. This Chase is one sadistic bastard and he takes his wrath out of anyone who dares get in his face and question his actions. This Chase finds the world joyless and his life not worth living except to wreak havoc on his unsuspecting enemies. And he sure as heck has no room in his life and most definitely not in his heart for the young, naïve, and gentle woman who enters Chase’s life, not truly knowing what she’s about to be dragged into until it’s too late for her to go back.

I truly didn’t know if I would be able to accept a new girl for Chase, especially an outsider and a woman who just doesn’t seem to fit into his dark and dangerous world. But I should have learned by now to never doubt where Rachel Van Dyken leads her characters because it’s clear, pretty early on to readers, that Luciana Smith will be Chase’s game changer, not only because she’s the exact opposite of Mil, but because the lightness she brings into Chase’s darkness is the only thing strong enough to battle his demons, to unthaw his guarded heart, and to allow him a chance to see what’s ahead of him instead of everything he’s lost.

Rachel Van Dyken’s Eagle Elite is my absolute favorite mafia series, and the further she takes her readers, the darker, the riskier, the grittier, and the more heartbreaking the stories get, which means that characters we have come to love and respect might just let us down or a death might occur that will change the entire dynamics of the series’ storyline. In a world of murder, mayhem, and drama, losses and regrets are inevitable and while it’s difficult to accept some decisions and actions that take place, the setting require, even, demands them to play out because the mafia isn’t a fairy tale world, it’s where revenge, betrayal, and death reign supreme.

Excerpt

BLOOD. BLOOD. BLOOD.
It covered my hands.
It surged through my heart.
It dripped from my fingertips onto the concrete floor.
Trapped.
Broken.
Finished.
Hungry.
Insanity scratched its way into my psyche as I eyed the door and waited. One heartbeat, two heartbeats, three…
It opened.
I fired two rounds, and acrid smoke filled the air.
I thought I knew what love was. I was a fucking idiot. Every single bone in my body shuddered with rage, with the need to rip something apart, someone, anyone -all of them. My friends. My brothers. I brought the war to our house, and they would finish me because of it.
I’d thought I loved her.
Our love had been a lie.
Her betrayal my only truth.
And now?
Now, I finally knew what love was. I’d seen it, smelled it, tasted it.
And lost it.
I’d fucking lost it.
They would pay. They would all pay.
For taking her.
For turning her against me.
For making me believe that blood was everything, only after mine was spilled.

Jet Crow

Subtle scents of cinnamon mix with the taste of whiskey on her skin. I lick her from collarbone to the back of her ear, her moans enticing me to take more than a gentle share of what I want.

I’m well past hooking up with groupies, but something drew me to the beautiful brunette. Under the bright spotlight of that stage, my eyes found hers as I sang about finding the missing piece of me. Maybe it was the way she pretended to not care, catching my eyes and then turning away as if she was too shy to come speak to me, but too good to be bothered. It didn’t matter. I was already caught up in her as much as she was caught up in me.

The set ended and I made my way over to the mystery woman, the one who hid in the dark of the bar just as two shots were served. I took the shot of Fireball and then took her home shortly after.

Fuck. She feels good.

Hard little body, but soft in all the right places. Tits that fill my large hands and legs that spread enough for me to squeeze between her thighs. I bet she wouldn’t reach my shoulders in heels. Speaking of, “Keep them on.”

I like the feel of the leather against my lower back, the hard heel scraping across my skin when she tries to power play me by tightening around my waist and pulling me closer. I didn’t ask her to my bedroom. I didn’t have a chance. What started out as laughing while we shared a two a.m. snack of Cheetos, hummus, and whiskey turned into me eating her as a snack on top of my kitchen counter. I don’t ever do that with a one-nighter, but damn if she didn’t make me want to break more rules with her.

She kisses me like a woman in need of water, taking as much as she wants while pressing her heels into my ass. The heat between us emanates until I’m dragging my shirt off to try to cool down.

I knew she was different the moment she opened her mouth back at the bar. “You sing rock with so much soul. Who hurt you?”

“No one gets close enough to do me any harm.”

“That’s a pity.”

“It’s a pity I’ve never been hurt?”

“No, it’s a pity you’ve never loved anyone enough to get hurt.”

My heart started beating for what felt like the first time as I looked into her sultry eyes. I could blame the booze, but I can’t lie to myself. She had me thinking twice on things I never considered once before.

Who was this woman?

Even with our stomachs full, we weren’t satisfied. She dragged me by the belt down the hall to my bedroom. Her clothes were off and mine quickly followed before we tumbled into bed.

Fast. I want to fuck her fast and hard, but every time our eyes connect there’s such sadness found in her grays that I slow down. Wanting her to hold contact, I cup her cheek. “Hannah?”

Her eyes slowly open, the long lashes framing the lust I find between them. “What?” she asks between heavy breaths.

“Are you okay?”

“I’m good.”

“Just making sure.”

She runs her hands up my neck and into the back of my hair. “I’m sure.” Pulling me down to her, our mouths are just a few inches apart when she whispers, “I want you. I want to do this.”

Shy isn’t something I’d call her considering we were in my bed two hours after meeting. I like a woman who knows what she wants. Hannah knows. And fuck if it isn’t a turn on that she wants me.

I’m a world famous tattoo artist with a six month waiting list. Everybody’s begging me to put my ink on them. I’m the hottest shit in L.A., and can get any girl I want. So the last thing I expect is for Ash Carter to walk into my shop and blow me off.

I’ve spent the last seven years screwing half the women in the northern hemisphere, but nobody could come close to the girl I left behind. Ash was my world. But in order to protect her, I had to let her go. It was the biggest mistake of my life. And now I’ll do anything to get her back.

She’s left a permanent mark on my heart.

But even if she takes me back, will we be able to overcome the past? Will we be able to move forward towards our future?

REVIEW

J.D. Hawkins is a new-to-me author, and I’m so glad that I signed up to read/review his latest romance Love & Ink because it’s a romance story with depth…there are so many lessons that readers are taught as Teo and Ash get a second chance to be together after Teo’s abrupt departure from Ash’s life seven years ago, and even though they have some things to work through and the past must be dealt with regardless of Teo’s need to put it behind them, it’s clear that their feelings for one another never truly went away, which gives them one heck of a fighting chance to make things work this time around even if Teo fears that his past will always get in the way of any future he could ever have with Ash.

J.D. Hawkins definitely amps up the heat factor in Teo and Ash’s story; once they reconnect, the couple can’t keep their hands off one another. There’s this incessant need for each other’s body that can’t be quenched because of the amount of years they were apart. But while Teo and Ash do spend a lot of naked time together, there’s so much more to who they are and what they have than an amazing sex life, and it’s that part of the book that will resonate with readers because there isn’t one of us who has never felt lost, worthless, or undeserving, at times, and bringing ourselves out of that self-doubt and conquering it illustrates the true merit of a person, and it’s that journey that readers take with Teo and Ash, but especially Teo, as he works through what happened in his childhood and the way he viewed himself due to his father and other people’s misjudgments.

One aspect of the story that I felt was extremely well done was the characterization of Teo. I feel like Teo’s voice/perspective is more authentic and introspective due to the fact that Hawkins is a guy and understands how his gender would react/respond in the various situations that Teo finds himself. That’s not to say that female romance writers are incapable of presenting the male point of view; to me, Teo’s inner musings and outward remarks truly showcased who he was/is, which I think has a lot to do with the fact that Hawkins created Teo.

Ash is a very independent person, and it’s her courage to step out on her own and work for what she wants that allows her to get through to Teo and make him believe that someone’s past doesn’t have to define his future. Ash could have taken the easy route when it comes to her profession, but she refused to be handed a career because working towards the goal is just as important as reaching it. The way that Ash views and lives life is refreshing and while she’s afraid that Teo will break her heart again, she’s more afraid of what not being with him will cause her to lose.

Love & Ink is a sweet and sexy story that makes readers think about what defines them as individuals and how much other people’s opinions factor into how they choose to live. Both Teo and Ash have made something of themselves on their own, which is an amazing feat, especially due to how Teo grew up and the things he had to do to survive.

I really enjoyed reading about Teo and Ash’s second chance at love and at the life they’ve always wanted/deserved.

EXCERPT

“You want something to drink?” she calls from some other room.
“Sure. Something strong.”
“Vodka ok?”
“Always.”
I pace around the room a little, lust still pumping me full of adrenaline, taking in the details, stopping to study a Basquiat print above a bookcase. Flashbacks of conversations we had in her bed rushing through my mind, until she clinks some glasses behind me and I turn around.
“Here you go,” she says, handing me the glass.
I take it from her, sip slowly, but my eyes stay on hers-a living work of art even more captivating than what’s on the walls. The alcohol burns, hitting the spot, but I’m intoxicated enough by the room, by the smell, by her. She must sense it, because she breaks my gaze, eyelashes flickering away as she smiles down, but her coyness only ignites the fire building within me.
I put my drink down and throw her on the couch so I can gaze at those lush curves, trace my eyes down the length of that magnificent body.
I trace a finger around her ear, down her neck. She trembles like a leaf under my touch, skin cool with goosebumps. Her breath quickening, hot and heavy.
I climb on top of her and we devour each other’s mouths as I tug her pants off and she pulls her shirt over her head. We roll around on the couch, her hands squeezing my cock, my mouth sucking each nipple until her breath shudders, her fingers clawing down my back. I need to taste her.
I pull away, enjoying how she hisses with unresolved desire.
“Why are you stopping?” she asks, her voice tinged with desperation.
I growl, low and firm, “I’m not. I’m going to eat you.”

EXCERPT REVEAL: Hot Daddy by Lila Monroe

Welcome to the Billionaire Bachelors series, where the sexiest men in the city are about to meet their match…

Playboy CEO, Cal McAdams, lives life in the fast lane: hot women, hotter deals, and… a fake fiancee? I signed on to help reform his reckless image and win custody of his god-children, but I wasn’t expecting to come face-to-face (and mouth-to-mouth) with my wild Vegas hook-up from three years ago.

AKA, 6”3 of tanned muscle, sharp suits, and ‘undress me’ eyes.
AAKA, the best thigh-clenching, bed-shaking sex of my life.
AAAKA, the man who couldn’t be more off-limits if he had a uranium belt wrapped around his, um, assets.

I’ve never been one to break the rules, but Cal has me wanting to rip them up – and roll around naked on the scrap paper. But with just three weeks to turn this bachelor into a DILF, can we keep our crazy chemistry from derailing his plans? Or will gold-digging relatives, rambunctious pre-teens, and a little thing called love leave us both crashed out of the race?

Find out in the new sexy, hilarious romantic comedy from Lila Monroe!

Excerpt

I’ve been stranded at the hotel bar in Vegas alone for exactly twenty seconds before a guy sidles in beside me. “Buy you a drink?”

I glance up. He’s at least twenty years my senior, with pleated khakis and an obvious comb-over. I shake my head and smile tightly. “Got one, thanks.”

“Aw, come on now,” he says, plunking himself down in the empty seat beside me. “You in town for the conference?” Then, in spite of the fact that I haven’t asked: “Medical devices.”

His name is Greg, he continues; he sells surgical equipment and has a hundred dollar per diem he hasn’t blown through yet today, if I want to rethink that drink offer. “I’ll spring for nachos too,” he says magnanimously. “I’m a generous guy.”

I’m sweeping the room for the closest exit, contemplating an escape worthy of Danny Ocean himself, when a hand lands on the back of my barstool. “Hey babe,” a deep voice says casually. “Making friends?”

I whip around. This guy would look right at home with Clooney and Pitt. He’s tall and dark-haired, wearing a shirt rolled halfway to his elbows and an expression that clearly says, just go with it. “I got my ass beat at roulette,” he continues with a sheepish grin. “There goes private school for the kids, right?” He sticks his hand out to medical device guy. “Cal. The husband.”

I almost choke on my paloma. Still, something about the sheer ballsiness of this particular play–and, okay, how hot this guy is–has me playing along. “Hey hon,” I say, laying a hand on his pleasantly solid bicep. “Greg here was just telling me all about the free swag at the medical device conference in town.”

Greg’s gaze darts from me to Cal, then back again. “I guess I’ll leave y’all to it, then.”

“Good to meet you,” I lie, smiling my cheeriest smile.

Once he’s gone I turn to Cal. “So, on a scale of like, one to Disney Princess, how badly did I look like I needed rescuing?”

Cal tilts his head to the side, considering. “I mean, your undisguised expression of misery kind of gave it away.”

“Maybe that’s just how my face is!” I protest, laughing in spite of myself. “Resting miserable face.”

“Eh. Maybe.” Cal shrugs, all confidence as he settles himself onto Greg’s recently vacated barstool. “You don’t look so miserable now.”

Right away I feel my cheeks flush. It’s been a long time since I flirted—or, more accurately, since I was competently flirted with. “So how many kids do we have, exactly?”

“Not too many,” he reassures me, nodding at the bartender for another beer. “Like six or seven, max.”

“Six or seven!” I snort. “And here you are just gambling their lunch money away like some kind of degenerate.”

Cal nods gravely. “I’m a real scoundrel,” he agrees.

“Clearly.” I stick my hand out. “Jules Robinson.”

“Nice to meet you, Jules Robinson.” He gives good handshake, firm but not bone-crushing, all long fingers and the faintest scrape of callus on his palm. His eyes are a deep, friendly brown. “So what brings you to Vegas?” he asks.

“I’m with a girlfriend,” I explain. “Or I was, anyway. At the moment she’s out on an… exploratory mission.”

Cal grins. “Sounds exhilarating.”

“Oh, I’m sure it is,” I assure him. “What about you? What are you doing in town?”

“Auditioning for Thunder from Down Under,” he says immediately. Then, off my laugh: ”Callback, actually. I aced the first round, they couldn’t get enough of me.”

“Right, no, obviously.” The ads for the all-male revue were plastered all over the strip when we got here this afternoon: beefy, longhaired guys in bow ties, cummerbunds, and not much else. “So what’s your character?” I ask, rattling the ice in my mostly-empty glass. “Sexy fireman, sexy cop…?”

“Sexy medical device salesman,” he deadpans. “See, you’re laughing, but I have a whole bit I do with the x-ray machine. It’s a real crowd pleaser.”

Casino bars don’t ever really empty out, but this one is taking on a distinct after-hours vibe, low light and quiet conversations; the Bud-guzzling bachelor party bros are long gone. When I finally check my phone to see if Kelly’s texted—she has, she’s safe, and she’s having a truly epic time with her mountain man—I realize it’s after one. “Holy shit,” I blurt. “How’d it get to be so late?”

Cal raises his eyebrows. “Keeping you up?”

“What? No!” I blurt, immediately embarrassed by how eager I sound. “We just had an early flight out this morning, that’s all. I’ve been up for like twenty hours.”

“I’m teasing you, princess.” He smiles at me then, slow and easy. It’s the most intimate smile of my entire life. It’s a smile like sitting in front of a campfire in October and reading the paper in bed on Sunday morning; it’s a smile, frankly, like getting good and fucked by a man who knows you down to your most essential particles. “You wanna get out of here?” he asks.

I knew it was coming but still there’s something bracingly scandalous about the idea, being propositioned by a total stranger. I’m imagining it now, I can’t help it: that broad chest pressed against mine and his capable-looking mouth on my neck, long fingers reaching down between my legs and—

“Tempting,” I tell him truthfully, laying a palm against my flaming face. “But I probably shouldn’t.”

To his credit Cal keeps smiling, a little rueful; he doesn’t try to convince me, either, just touches my arm and catches the bartender’s eye to settle up. “Fair enough,” he tells me, pulling his wallet out of his back pocket. “Well, it was really nice to be married to you for five minutes, Jules Robinson.”

“Yeah,” I agree, feeling my whole body get warm. “It was nice to be married to you for five minutes, too.”

I’m surprised by the sharp pang of longing behind my ribs as I watch him go a moment later, the strange sense that I’ve somehow given up more than just a roll in starchy white hotel sheets. Still, it’s not like I’m about to just get up and follow him out of here. He probably does this every night, sure. But I’ve never had a one night stand in my entire life.

I’ve never had a one-night stand in my entire life.

The thought stops me—after all, I’m a grown-ass woman with a newly minted law degree, aren’t I? I’ve got nobody to answer to but myself. And this is Vegas. What happens here, et cetera. I swallow down the rest of my tequila, set the glass back down on the bar. “Hey Cal!” I call, slinging my purse over my shoulder and hopping down off my barstool as quickly as my tiny dress allows. “Wait up.”

Synopsis

Relationships are complex.

Love ever-changing.

And when it comes to rules of the heart,

they were made to be broken…

That’s what Robert Antonio Bianchi was telling himself, anyway.

Otherwise, he really had no excuse for what—or who—he’d done.

No excuse, except for his lonely heart, a pitcher of margaritas, four Bitter Bitches, and the apparent need to confess all his weaknesses to the two men he knew would bring him nothing but trouble.

But trouble was nothing new.

Just ask his crazy sisters or any of his friends, and they’d be the first to tell you:

If there was a bad decision to be made, Robbie always had a knack for making it.

And thus begins the story of the priest, the princess, and the prick.

Stella Donovan’s biological clock is a ticking time bomb.

Review

Stella Donovan and Dane Wylder are both straight shooters. They live regimented lifestyles – ones with rules and order, holding on to absolutes instead of truly living fully in the present. And while their lives are vastly different, appearing as almost direct opposites in every way, there is one thing that they both want and for some reason in order to achieve their goal, they need one another…thus begins their legally binding contract of baby maker/baby daddy.

Neither Stella nor Dane are looking for love; in fact, they don’t believe in it and refuse to succumb to an emotion that has only ever caused them and those they love pain and heartache, but while P. Dangelico establishes that idea right from the start of Stella and Dane’s ‘arrangement,’ she also allows readers to see the ‘possibilities’ of what they could become if they bent their self-imposed rules and found a way to deal with the issues that keep their hearts from giving into what they seem to so desperately need.

The push/pull between Stella and Dane makes Baby Maker one heck of a slow burn romance; at times, the hero and heroine can barely tolerate one another. They get underneath each other’s skin so easily and they provoke the worst kind of reactions, responses that are uncharacteristic of the people they are, proving that there’s attraction and intrigue there even if they won’t readily admit to it.

P. Dangelico provides readers with enough of Stella and Dane’s backstories to truly understand why both of them aren’t ones to put themselves on the line for love. These two anticipate love’s fallout before anything can even be experienced, which proves just how terrified they are of making the same mistakes their parents did.

What I love most about Stella and Dane and their antagonistic relationship is that they force each other to see beneath the façades they outwardly portray. Stella may be uptight and overly concerned about money due to her childhood, but she’s also feisty and stubborn, which goes well with Dane’s laidback demeanor. With every interaction, they’re always pushing one another to their limits, but what’s most surprising is that those parameters seem to expand the closer they become and grow into the idea of an ‘us,’ which means that maybe Stella and Dane will take a risk on love that they never would have taken if this ‘Baby Maker Situation’ hadn’t brought them together.

I really enjoyed my first romance by P. Dangelico. Stella and Dane’s story was entertaining, heartfelt, and the perfect mix of angst and humor. I love that it was told in both their perspectives because it allows readers to see all sides of the situation and understand why both of them are hesitant to risk their heart on a concept that has done nothing but let me down in the past, and even though Stella and Dane do hit some bumps along the way to making a baby, the journey they take changes them in ways that give them hope for their future – one that they both deserve!

Grabbing the pot of freshly brewed coffee from the coffee maker, he stares into the pot then drinks from it. I don’t bother to tell him it’s decaf. Throat working as he swallows, he holds up his index finger.

I’ve got a finger for him, the middle one.

“I don’t know what’s gotten into you but I’ve had enough.” He continues drinking. “And word of caution, if you come back to New York and continue to treat me like I’m cattle, a possession, you will damage this friendship beyond repair.”

He places the pot down, his eyes downcast as he leans on the counter for support. “I’m sorry…I was a real asshole last night and–“

“Last night?!” I shout. “How about for the past week.”

“Well you’re not helpin’ the situation!” he shouts back, his eyes sparking, then winces again.

My jaw hangs in disbelief. He can’t be serious. Is he really blaming me?

“The hell are you talking about? You’re blaming me? Me?! You’ve been unbearable–when you’ve been around, that is. Usually you’re running in the opposite direction. But somehow in your twisted little male peanut sized brain, it’s my fault?!”

“Yes, goddamit! Dancin’–smilin’ at that fucking cowboy!” His hand slashes through the air as if he’s indicating to someone in the corner. The veins near his temple pop up. Eyes impossibly wide, he advances on me, stopping a mere foot away. “You never smile at me like that!”

Huh? “What does that have to do with anything?!”

“Because I’m jealous! Okay! And you’ve made it very clear you’re not attracted to me but all I can think about is this!”

He’s on me before I can blink, arms crushing me to him, kissing me like I hold the last breath of air on the planet and he means to steal it.

A beat later he stops. His lips against mine he murmurs, “Kiss me back…please kiss me back.”

Meet P. Dangelico

Dangelico loves romance in all forms, cuddly creatures (four legged and two), really bloody sexy pulp, the NY Jets (although she’s reconsidering after this season), and to while away the day at the barn (apparently she does her best thinking shoveling horse crap). What she’s not enamored with is referring to herself in the third person and social media so don’t expect her to get on Twitter anytime soon. Oh, and although she was born in Italy, she’s been Jersey Strong since she turned six.

EXCERPT REVEAL: Baby Daddy by Kendall Ryan

A hot and hilarious new standalone from New York Times bestseller Kendall Ryan.

We met in a trapped elevator.

Emmett was on his way to work, sophisticated and handsome in his tailored suit and tie.

I was on my way to the sperm bank. Awkward, right?

At thirty-five, my life hadn’t taken the path I thought it would and I was tired of waiting-I wanted a baby. And I was ready to take matters into my own hands to make it happen.

After our ill-fated elevator encounter, Emmett insisted on taking me to dinner-he also insisted on something else-that I ditch my plan involving a turkey baster and let him do the job. He would be my baby daddy. He was a wealthy and powerful CEO with little interest in diapers or playdates. And since he didn’t want kids, I’d be on my own once his bun was in my oven, free to go my own way.

But once his baby was inside me, it was like a switch had been flipped, and I got a whole lot more than I ever bargained for.

This full-length standalone contains a hot, swoonworthy hero, lots of playful banter and some hot baby-making ! Enjoy.

Prologue

Emmett

I love my dick.

That’s a fact.

And I’m not afraid to admit he’s both my best friend and my most trusted advisor. Sure, he’s gotten me into some tight spots over the years-pun very much intended-but that’s what makes life fun, right? I wouldn’t trade our relationship for the world. He stands tall and proud . . . and when he spots something he likes? He bobs with pleasure, begging to get closer.

And as for me? Well, I trust his judgment. Completely. He didn’t bob for the stunning and funny Laura in accounting. I knew there was a reason, and as it turns out, she’s a bit of a klepto. Three hundred seventy-two staplers kind of klepto.

But I’m not a total douchebag, I promise. I’m just a young CEO under immense pressure, so in my downtime, blowing off steam is practically a necessity. It’s my duty to keep my dick happy, and a steady diet of beautiful women keeps us both satisfied. I do what I can to make his life as simple and as easy as possible. Plenty of no-strings sex does the trick.

I find that when he’s well taken care of, I feel better and my brain works efficiently. Shit, my whole life just seems easier.

It’s that simple. I love my dick, and loving my dick makes my entire life better.

When my dick perks up in interest, begging for a taste of the woman we’re stranded with in a stuck elevator for two hours, I listen to his dirtiest wishes and ask her out to dinner. But the last thing I expect her to say is that she’s not interested in my dick. She’s just interested in the stuff inside, the stuff that can give her the baby she so desperately wants. No strings attached.

Who am I to say no?

Welcome to the craziest ride my dick’s ever gotten me into.
