 Excerpt

I watched him stride across the café toward the door, hating the way everything tightened when he did.

His or mine, I wasn’t sure.

But it was there.

Heavy.

Pressing on my heart.

I couldn’t stop from watching him through the big windows as he started down the sidewalk, the man a scorching silhouette in the blaze of the day.

But he didn’t climb into his car that was parked at the curb.

He began to pace.

A pace that looked like indecision and turmoil.

Back and forth right on the other side of the window.

His head tilted back toward the sky, as if it might hold an answer, before he set his coffee and the lollipops down on one of the open tables, dug in his pocket, and pulled out his phone.

“You’re an idiot,” Jenna hissed from beside me. “That guy likes you, and he’s literally the hottest thing to ever walk through that door. And he bought All. The. Lollipops.”

Maybe that was part of the problem.

“I don’t get simple,” was my response.

“What if he doesn’t want simple?”

I would have answered her, told her that in the end, everyone did. They always took the easy way out when the going got tough. Except the café phone rang. I moved for it, thankful for the distraction, something to keep my feet from rounding the counter and running after him.

Because what the hell would that accomplish?

I lifted the receiver from the wall and pressed it to my ear. “A Drop of Hope. How can I help you?”

“Go out with me.” His gravelly voice echoed through the line.

A surprised sound whispered from my lips, and Kale was suddenly at the window, his face pressed to the glass, hand shading his eyes so he could see inside. His other hand was holding his cell to his ear. “Go out with me, Hope. Just dinner. Because I can’t fucking stop thinking about you. Couldn’t after I saw you the first time at Olive’s on Friday night. It only got worse after I saw you here Monday morning. I don’t know what it is about you . . . but there’s something that makes me want to figure it out.”

My breaths were hard pants, my heart a jackhammer in my chest. “My life’s complicated, Kale.”

“And I’m offering you a night away from it. Don’t you at least deserve that?”

I wanted to beg him, what then? What happened if I fell for that smirk and that smile and those tender eyes?

Fast and hard?

I could already feel myself slipping. My heart tipping his direction.

What happened if Dane found out?

What then?

But I was so tired of that man controlling every aspect of my life, even after I’d made the decision to cut him from it.

Jenna was suddenly in my face, gripping my wrist, her voice a hard, demanding whisper. “You tell him yes, Harley Hope. Don’t you dare hang up that phone without telling him yes. You deserve something just for you. Just for you.”

Indecision swarmed, questions and worries and want.

But it was the feeling balled in my stomach that trembled the floor beneath my feet.

The urge to reach out and touch on the beauty and tenderness that swam in his eyes. To discover if it was real.

The throb of desire that begged, a whisper in my ear that goaded—just one touch.

The hidden need to feel those hands skating my flesh.

I guessed I’d thought I’d never crave that again, my life fulfilled, my spirit content in knowing I was living for what was right.

Jenna squeezed tighter, my bossy best friend mouthing the word as she angled her head with the demand. “Say yes.”

It was at the same second Kale fisted his hand against the window, his forehead rocking against it, his own words a petition. “Come on, Hope. Say yes. I promise you, you won’t regret it.”

A hint of playfulness came out on the last, but it didn’t matter, because I was agreeing.

“Yes,” I murmured, wanting to feel something good even though I wasn’t so much a fool that I didn’t know I was making a mistake. That in the end, it wouldn’t hurt.

Because it already felt as if this mattered.

As if he mattered.

“Okay. One night. Just dinner,” I reiterated.

He breathed out in what sounded like relief. “Just dinner.”

As if anything could ever be as simple as that.

What I love most about second chance romances is the fact that the hero and heroine have history together, which means that their feelings for one another are ones that have always been there and even though they may have laid dormant due to time and distance, it’s completely feasible for those once felt emotions to quickly reignite, leading the hero and heroine back to each other and willing them to remember what they once had and fight like hell to get it back.

As childhood friends, Evie Harper and Jack Nelson formed the kind of bond that’s meant to last, but circumstances took them away from one another six years ago and now the pain and devastation of broken promises and shattered dreams make it a difficult journey back to what they once had now that Evie has returned to town.

There’s always two sides to every story, and somewhere in the middle is where the truth lies, and it definitely seems like that’s the case for Evie and Jack. Their entangled past was like a lifeline for them while they were apart and even though there’s issues to be dealt with and truths to be told, it’s clear that what Evie and Jack once shared is still between them and as long as Evie willingly sheds light on the secrets she’s been holding and Jack can accept them and move forward, still wanting Evie by his side, no one can stop them from rebuilding their relationship.

Mend is a straight forward second chance romance – one that illustrates just how meaningful and powerful a first love is. There’s not much standing in Evie and Jack’s way once they work through their past mistakes and while, at times, it did seem a bit too easy for them to, in a way, pick up right where they left off, I can’t really judge them for that because their backstory and perspectives prove just how much they adore one another.

Chelle Bliss definitely stepped out of the box for Evie and Jack’s story, and I know that she was afraid that she would lose readers based on the content of Mend and its characters, but any author who is willing to challenge herself in her writing and still writes a story with heart and passion, that’s a writer I will surely follow regardless of a change in trope or character personalities.

EXCERPT TOUR: RESPECT by Aleatha Romig

Respect – An Infidelity Stand-alone Novel

“The making of a man”

Standing at what I believe is the precipice of my life, I, Oren Demetri, was too young to understand that it wasn’t and too old to imagine that it couldn’t be.

The already hefty accumulation of my successes and failures, bravery and fears, and rewards and suffering, had brought me to this point. It was hard to contemplate the things I’d done, and yet, in reality I’d only begun to learn the possibilities.

I suppose that’s how it was for me at twenty-nine years of age on the brink of all I’d ever wanted without fully realizing the price I would pay. Yet in that moment, I knew there would be no cost too great or sacrifice I wouldn’t make. I had no idea how far-reaching that moment of self-discovery would be; because as the congregation’s murmurs quieted, bleeding into silence and allowing the thump of my heart to be the only sound I heard, I was a man filled with love and adoration, emotions in stark contrast to those I needed in the world I’d built or the one I was about to enter.

Angelina Costello was my dream and now my reality. I’d worked diligently to move beyond the actuality of being a dockworker’s son to becoming a self-made, successful entrepreneur, all in an effort to earn the right to call her my own. I’d overcome servitude to others, collecting their paychecks and lowly praises, to being the one who signed the paychecks and offered the accolades when they were rightfully earned.

The world was my oyster and walking toward me on the arm of her uncle was my pearl. I’d found her amongst the empty shells life had offered. There was no need to pry open another possibility. Angelina was all I wanted. Yet my path was uncharted. There was more for me to earn, lose, and willingly give.

The top of that list was respect.

This stand-alone novel may be read without reading the Infidelity series.

From New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today bestselling author Aleatha Romig comes a stand-alone novel based from her beloved Infidelity series. With classic Aleatha Romig twists, turns, deceptions, and devotions, this new epic romantic thriller will delve into a world where family takes on new meaning and even the inhabitants are suspicious of the next chapter.

Excerpt

Angelina Costello was the only woman to ever take my breath away. I couldn’t not speak to her. “I haven’t seen you since NYU.”

“I’ve been living overseas, studying history and architecture in Italy.”

“Italy! Molto bene. And now you’re back?” I asked.

“I am.”

“To stay?”

“I believe so.”

“Perhaps we could see one another,” I proposed, all the while hoping that she would say yes and saying a prayer that she would say no.

Her lips curved upward. “I see you now.”

“Si, and I would like to see more.”

With a glint to her gaze, she said, “I never forgot you. I thought at one time…” Her head tilted innocently as her lip momentarily hid behind her teeth. “Are you sure you aren’t still scared of me?”

“Angelina, I’m quite certain that I’m terrified of you.”

Her smile grew. “Bene. Then let me give you my number.”

BLOG TOUR REVIEW AND EXCERPT: MIDNIGHT BLUE by L.J. Shen

Midnight Blue, an all-new sexy standalone from LJ Shen is LIVE!

LJSMidnightBlueBookCover6x9_BW_324.jpg

Midnight Blue

Author: LJ Shen

Release Date: January 18th

It should have been easy.

I needed the money. He needed a babysitter to keep him from snorting himself to death.

I was cherry-picked especially for him. Responsible. Optimistic. Warm. Innocent.

The worst part is that I should have known better.

Alex Winslow. British rock star. Serial heartbreaker. Casanova with whiskey eyes.

“Don’t get near the devil in a leather jacket. He’ll chew you up and spit you out.”

Sounds familiar? That’s because it was a headline in a tabloid the second time he got arrested.

Guess what? I didn’t listen.

I signed the contract.

World tour. Three months. Four Continents. One hundred shows.

My name is Indigo Bellamy, and I sold my soul to a tattooed god.

Problem was, my soul wasn’t enough for Alex Winslow. He ended up taking my body, too.

Then he took my heart.

Then he took my all.

Review

“People where you live,” the little prince said, “grow five thousand roses in one garden… yet they don’t find what they’re looking for…

They don’t find it,” I answered.

And yet what they’re looking for could be found in a single rose, or a little water…”

Of course,” I answered.

And the little prince added, “But eyes are blind. You have to look with the heart.”

― Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Little Prince

The Little Prince’s contemplations are amazingly insightful about the world/environment  in which we live, and even though Alex Winslow’s world is one that was developed and constructed in L.J. Shen’s mind and her imagination, many truths about our society…about our choices in life are exposed and then explored in such a manner that resonates the beauty that life holds as well as the many ways that people allow certain lifestyles and certain people to destroy everything they ever thought was precious…everything that used to mean the world to them…simply because the WANT…the DESIRE…the NEED to fill their lives to the brim with everything they thought they wanted slowly and insidiously turns to their downfall…to a life that is no longer their own, and then the battle becomes how to break free from the users and abusers, after it has become their norm for so long, without completely losing their lives to the demands, to the demons, to the addictions that must constantly be battled, all because they refused to see success in its simplest terms and strove for a stardom that would ultimately expose just how volatile, how dark, and how manipulative a life on the stage can be.

I’m a huge fan of anti-heroes. There’s something to be said about a male lead who moves beyond stereotypical characteristics and has an edge to him that deviates from the norm, making him a unique mix of a cold and calculated alpha male, a devilish asshole, and the man beneath the stage persona who simply wants his music, his friends, and quite frankly his life to be more about the songs and their meanings instead of what people can take from him until they’ve sucked him dry of his passions, his sense of self, and his soul.

Alex Winslow is such a character, but while my characterization of him in Midnight Blue is apt, I don’t quite see him as so much of an anti-hero as a man who has lost his way…a man who has been used by too many people and feels the need for retribution when it comes to his so-called friends, Fallon, and the people who have done nothing but take from him ever since he became a superstar. Because while I can’t deny that Alex was one hell of an asshole throughout the course of the story, readers get an explanation for every devious action…every asshole comment…every emotion felt and shown and while I might not find him commendable, I can handle THAT kind of damaged jackass…it’s when the hero does it just to do it that pisses me off and leaves me feeling like he’s a douchebag just because he can be.

Indie Bellamy entering Alex’s life may come with a massive amount of headaches and even heartache due to the nature of her contract as Alex’s sobriety companion, but regardless of how many times she becomes his toy…his doormat…his punching bag, because readers are privy to Alex’s perspective, we are able to understand his recourse for acting that way and while he’s definitely a major prick at times, there are also moments between Alex and Indie that illustrate just how much her presence has allowed his addictive personality to be tempered and his erratic moods to find some sense of balance and while both of those fixes may be temporary, Indie has also allowed Alex to get back to basics when it comes to his music, his songs, his lyrics, and by finding his musical outlet again, he’s able to become less tortured and perhaps even less lost but the length of that clarity is unclear, especially when his ultimate goal is something that could not only tear his world and his career apart but also force his muse…his soul to fracture even further.

L.J. Shen created a kickass heroine in Indie. She definitely comes with her own baggage and she’s just as broken as Alex is, but she chooses different outlets for her breakdowns The fact that she’s not a rock star also allows Indie’s struggles to not play out on social media, which is one area Alex has no control over. Indie has a backbone, but she’s also delicate in ways…she’s more innocent than most girls her age, so when she steps into Alex’s world, it’s a bit overwhelming, but she handles everything that’s thrown at her with grace and learns to traverse through the many faces and moods of Alex Winslow, and the longer she remains his glue…the person who looks out for his best interests when it comes to reverting back to bad habits, the more readers see just how much power Indie seems to have over Alex, even if never feels that way about their situation.

Alex and Indie’s story showcases L.J. Shen’s ability to create characters who are multifaceted and so rich with personality that readers receive new insights into who the hero and the heroine are up until the very last page of the book.

And while Shen is known for her angsty plot lines, there’s always a reason for the torment…there’s always a backstory that allows an understanding to be established and it’s for that very reason that I can endure the angst because it’s not staged…it’s not there just to cause chaos, and I appreciate that the emotional conflict I feel as a reader is not contrived; it is so easy to get caught up in the world and the characters that Shen creates because it feels so real and that’s due to the way she writes and captures the essence of her characters’ feelings and their actions.

I continue to be captivated by L.J. Shen’s broken princes and princesses and the fact that their souls find a way to survive teaches me that even with pain and suffering, finding one’s true place is possible.

Excerpt

Nat’s words came back and haunted me like a bad haircut from the eighties. An irrational need to check the goods took over me. It wasn’t like he minded. According to the rumors, his dick had seen more cameras than Kendall Jenner. Slowly—so painfully slowly—my eyes drifted down his sinewy body. I just wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Whatever I had in mind, though, didn’t come close to the real thing. Thick, long but not atrocious. With thin veins running through its length.

“Nice view?” he groaned, tucking his junk back into his briefs. His profile was glorious. Strong jaw, pouty lips, eyes like sex…

My eyes snapped up when I realized he was talking to me. “I wasn’t…”

“Looking? Yes, you were. Next time take a picture. It lasts longer.” He rolled his zipper upward and flushed the toilet with the toe of his boot. He turned around and squirted soap into his palm, washing his hands almost violently—rubbing between each finger and scratching his knuckles like he wanted to shed his own skin. When he was done, he looked around for a towel.

I cleared my throat, scrambling to regain my wits. “Longer than the glimpse or longer than your performance?”

Casually—so unbearably casually—he wiped his wet hands over my purple dress. I gasped, moving sideways. It looked like he was about to open the door and get out, but before I had the chance to yell at him for using me as a human towel, he slammed me against the wall, bracing both his arms above my head and pinning me to my spot. I let out a shriek of surprise at the sudden proximity.

Alex Winslow is touching me. Willingly, my surprisingly pitiful brain squealed.

Heat rolled off his body, making my back arch and my breath catch in my throat.

“Let’s make one thing clear—I could fuck you to a point of numbness without even breaking a sweat if I wanted to. Now, careful, New Girl. If you don’t keep your distance from me, I think I just might.”

About COME AS YOU ARE (Coming 4/16/2018):

I couldn’t have scripted a more perfect night.

For one fantastic evening, at a masquerade party in the heart of Manhattan, I’m not the millionaire everyone wants a piece of. Fine-multimillionaire. But who’s counting all those commas? Not me, and not the most intriguing woman I’ve ever met, who happens to like dancing, witty banter, and hot, passionate up-against-the-wall sex as much as I do.

There’s no need for names or business cards. And that’s why I’m eager to get to know her more, since my mystery woman seems to like me for me, rather than for my huge…bank account.

Everything’s coming up aces. Until the next day when things get a little complicated. (Newsflash – a lot complicated.)

***

He’s charming, brilliant, an incredible lover, and right now I want to stab fate in the eyeballs.

I’ve had one goal I’ve been working toward, and lo and behold, my mystery man is the very person who stands between me and my dream job. A job I desperately need since my hard-knock life has nothing in common with his star-kissed one.

But it’s time to put that fairytale night behind me, and focus on learning what makes him tick. Too bad it turns out his quirks are my quirks, and his love affair with New York matches mine.

And as we spend our days together, I discover something else that feels like a cruel twist of fate – I’m falling for this naughty prince charming, and that’s not an ending I can write to our story.

Review

I CANNOT wait for Carter and Vaughn’s story to come to life on the small screen. As each scene unfolded, especially when some of the couple of three years’ backstory is provided, I imagined how it would play out in real life and how the screenwriter and the director would make every passionate, heartwarming, and swoon worthy moment into the vision Ella Frank and Brooke Blaine envisioned when they created this sweet short story about a couple who epitomize what a loving relationship is and why finding one’s soul mate is the best feeling in the world.

I didn’t want Carter and Vaughn’s novella to end because every time Carter took readers back in time to his and Vaughn’s first encounter, their non-date movie experience and a few other absolutley precious and heartfelt moments, the development of their love story is so genuine and so easily illustrates that love is love regardless of the gender of the two people who have found something in each other that they’ll cherish for the rest of their lives.

Ella Frank and Brooke Blaine continue to be a writing powerhouse in the M/M genre; I adore both writers and I can’t wait to read what Ella has in store for Robbie and meet Brooke’s new couple who is bound to both tear apart and heal my heart and they do it to theirs as well.

RELEASE DAY LAUNCH REVIEW AND EXCERPT: XO ZACH by Kendall Ryan

The first time we met was at a party.

Your ex arrived to show off the person he’d left you for last month, and you asked me to pretend to be your date.

I was more than happy to help. You were attractive, smart and witty–and that kiss we shared? It left me wanting you for days.

The second time we met was in my office on campus where we were both surprised to discover you were the new master’s degree student in poetry that I would be working with. You promised to be professional. I did no such thing.

The late nights and intense study sessions spent alongside you majorly throw me off my game. I want you, and I fight with myself daily over this fact.

I know I’m crass, that my sexual innuendos and dirty mouth annoy you, but I live for those two bright spots of color in your cheeks. If that’s the only reaction I can get out of you, I’ll gladly take it.

You hate Mondays so every Monday I slip an anonymous poem into your bag and your smile gets me through the week.

I think I’m falling for you, and I know it’s wrong. I know that I’m only supposed to be your adviser and nothing more, but here’s the thing. I think you’re falling for me too.

xo, Zach

Review

The way Kendall Ryan always seems to infuse the perfect amount of heart, heat, and drama in every story that she tells is why I gobble up each and every book that she releases.

The stories that Ryan tells don’t use needless drama as filler, and she doesn’t add in over-the-top angst to drive her characters and her readers crazy. There’s a reason for all of her hero and heroines’ internal musings and each time she writes in a common trope, she doesn’t follow the same formula as every other story written; she adds in her own twists and veers off the straightforward path just enough to make the plot line her own and spin it just enough to get her characters where she needs them to go when she needs them to go there.

Zach Austin is quite the contradiction in one delicious package; he’s one hell of a dirty talker but he also expresses himself through the poetic form, making him the perfect blend of sweet and sexy. He’s not afraid to go after what he wants but he also understands Poppy’s position on things and does his best to prove just how good they can be together while also going at a pace that won’t scare Poppy away from what seems to Zach to be an inevitability.

A lot of readers will relate to Poppy, not only in her goals and her importance of family but also in the need to prove to her ex that she’s moved on just like him and is so much better off without him. She’s cautious when it comes to her feelings for Zach and she understands the risks of acting on their sizzling chemistry. But she’s also a woman who desires a man, even if it’s a tad inappropriate, so she finds herself walking a delicate line with it comes to acquiring the future she’s always wanted and now just might have someone to share that future with as long as she’s willing to take a risk.

There is a bit of a forbidden aspect to Zach and Poppy’s growing attraction, but it’s not the typical professor/student drama. The complications that arise must be dealt with, which is why their relationship is a slow go for quite some time.

The secondary characters add great comic relief as well as provide insight into who Zach and Poppy are and how they became the individuals they are today. I especially enjoyed Zach’s relationship with his mother and Poppy’s friends helped her to loosen up and not be so focused on school and her future that it doesn’t allow her to LIVE life to its fullest.

XO, Zach is a sweet, slow burn romance that will definitely have readers swooning over the dirty talker hero and connecting with the heroine as someone they would want to hang out with and get to know further because Poppy’s extremely relatable and I could totally see me being friends with her, which is something I don’t say often after finishing a book!

Excerpt

“This is serious, Poppy. Will you promise?”

“What am I promising?” This man had a way of getting me to say things, to feel things, to admit things that I might not have otherwise. I wasn’t sure if it was because he was older and wiser and that much more cunning at these types of discussions, or if it was just because being near him seemed to physically lower my inhibitions. He was like a walking shot of tequila.

“I need you to promise me that if anything physical happens between us—that it will be very consensual, and very sex-positive. I need you to understand that I will worship you and make you come So. Many. Fucking Times.”

He annunciated those words so clearly and slowly, I felt them with every beat of my heart, every pulse of heat between my legs.

Oblivious to my hammering heart, Zach continued. “But I also need you to know that if I do or say anything you don’t like, all you have to do is say so and everything will stop. Just the word no, Poppy. Use it and I promise to leave you alone.”

“Leave me alone as in stop mentoring me, stop helping me in the program?”

His face was serious and he shook his head without even considering it. “I will never stop mentoring you, as long as you want it. Giving in to our attraction—or not—will never be a condition for my help. I want you to succeed, and it has nothing to do with how much I want you in my bed. Do you understand that?”

I felt myself nodding my head.

I knew what he was saying. Despite how aggressively Zach put his feelings on the subject of us out there—I knew he’d never betray my wishes.

“Okay,” I murmured.

He considered me for a long moment, neither of us blinking.

“Why did you approach me that night at the party, Poppy. Did you find me attractive?”

Was he fucking serious?

Of course I find him attractive. Actually, attractive was too weak a word. I found him mesmerizing. Addictive. Enchanting. Impossible.

“I’m not saying I do, but if I wanted something to happen …” I swallowed a wave of nerves and took a shallow breath as Zach’s mouth curved into a grin.

Something as in finding out how many times in a row I can make you come using my mouth, my hands, and my …”

I held up one hand. “Yes. That. How would it work, isn’t it, like, forbidden?”

God, why did the word forbidden make me feel even hotter?

RELEASE BLITZ REVIEW AND EXCERPT: SIREN IN THE CITY by Lexi Blake writing as Sophie Oak

Re-released in a second edition with new scenes.

Jack and Sam married Abby. It was supposed to be for forever, but lately Abby wonders where her alpha male has gone. Jack has retreated and life has become decidedly vanilla. It isn’t the true marriage she and Sam wanted. Sam and Abby know the time has come to fight for what they need.

A call from his mentor forces Jack to revisit the club where he discovered his sexuality. Jack’s half-brother is in the city and interested in a little blackmail. Can Jack handle two defiant subs and a brother in need of some tough love?

Sometimes all it takes to find the way home is a little love and a lot of mischief.

Come back to the beginning and revisit some of your favorite old characters or find new ones to love. Siren in the City has been revised and new scenes added. And if you look closely, you’ll find not only the beginnings of the Sophie Oak world, but also the seeds of how McKay-Taggart began…

Review

With three people in the mix, especially ones as headstrong as Jack, Sam, and Abby can be, a happily ever after is doable but not without work…not without a few missteps…not without a reminder of what brought them all together in the first place and what keeps them coming back for more, even after the ‘newness’ wears off and life becomes more about living instead of loving.

Readers don’t truly know Jack as a Dom with a capital D until they see him in full Dom mode in the place that started his journey and his awareness of what he liked/needed sexually, and let me tell you, that’s what Sophie Oak gives readers in Siren in the City. And while there are plenty of scenes that illustrate Jack’s dominant side when it comes to sexual playtime, what’s also prevalent in the story are Jack’s anti-Dom moments and those times show the weight that rests on Jack’s shoulders and how dealing with all of those things has turned him into a different man – one who still loves and lives, but one who is so unlike the man that Abby and Sam fell for with one domineering stare.

It’s quite the adventure when two naughty submissives take it upon themselves to help their Dom find his way back to them, and while it’s entertaining and at some points utterly hilarious, Abby and Sam’s actions also illustrate just how much they miss their lover, their friend, and their Dom.

I definitely enjoyed Siren in the City…anytime I can read more about a trio of characters I’ve come to love and who entertain me as much as Jack, Abby, and Sam do is a great day of reading…although I do have to admit that I hated how much time Jack spent away from Abby and Sam…it didn’t seem right and it made my heart hurt that Jack was struggling so much and there was not much, at least at the beginning, that Abby and Sam could do to help. I understand why the separation had to occur, I just didn’t like it and I was too impatient for their reunion that I’m sure I missed out on some of the finer details, but ultimately, I got what I wanted in the end which left me a satisfied reader!

Excerpt

“Are we done, Julian? I would like to take my subs upstairs. It’s time I had a long talk with them.”

She held her breath as Leo stepped forward. “I’m not done.” He stood in front of Jack, going toe-to-toe with him. “I’m the Dom in residence now, Master Jack. I know that used to be your job, but you’re a guest now. Had two subs caused the trouble yours did tonight, what would you have requested then?”

Jack’s jaw tightened. “I would have immediately requested punishment. Julian would have wanted punishment for disrupting the scenes, but I would have requested punishment for the insult to me.”

Leo nodded. “They both will pay for abusing Master Julian’s trust. I want her to pay for the insult to me.”

The hand on the back of her neck tightened almost painfully, and Abby decided not to argue.

“What insult?” Jack asked.

Leo’s eyes skimmed over her. She watched from beneath her lashes. “She started everything. I was attempting to watch over Master Julian’s possession. She questioned my authority over Sally in public. She proceeded to ignore direct orders given to her for her own protection. Though the male is the one who fought, I understand and forgive his actions. He was protecting her. He’s your partner?”

There was not an ounce of condemnation in the Dom’s question. He was merely attempting to outline the relationship.

“We share our wife. But I am the head of the household.”

“Well, your wife is topping from the bottom,” Leo accused. “I can’t let the rest of the subs see her get away with it. Twenty tonight, over my knee, right now.”

The hand came off her neck and she heard a sigh. His voice was low, and she couldn’t stand the defeated sound of his reply. “We’ll be out of here in an hour. Julian, I’m sorry. Consider my membership revoked. Come along, Abigail. Sam, I expect you to pack whatever you need and meet us in the lobby.”

“No!” She reached for his hand. Jack did business with the members of this club. It meant something to him. It was the whole reason she wanted to come here. She wanted to see this side of him. It had been the first place he’d called home. Now she would be the reason he lost it. Jack growled at her. She kept her head down, but she couldn’t keep quiet. “Please, Jack. Please don’t. I couldn’t live with it. I’ll do whatever he asks. I can handle it. Please don’t let this happen.”

His hand found her chin again, and his expression was softer now. “Abigail, he could hurt you.”

“Nothing will hurt me more than knowing I did this to you.” She could feel the tears streaming down her face. “Please?”

He forced her to look him straight in the eyes, his gaze steady. “I will never allow another man to put his hands on you like that. Do you understand me? I don’t care what you’ve done or what their rules are. I only trust Sam. This relationship is between the three of us. I won’t let anyone else in, not even for a moment, no matter what it costs me. All right?”

Though it hurt her heart, she knew he wouldn’t move. She nodded.

“Leo, I wonder if you would indulge me.” Julian’s voice cut through her misery. “If Jackson administers the punishment, will you be satisfied? He’s serious. He will leave and not come back rather than allow you to touch her. It will more than likely cost me a friendship I would prefer not to lose.”

The slight incline of the dungeon master’s head indicated his assent. “But I expect him to take this seriously. It’s obvious to me he has no control over his subs. He needs to reestablish control or allow them their freedom so they can find more appropriate Masters.”

“How about you let me worry about my wife and my partner and you keep your hands off of her.” Jack took a threatening step toward the other man. “Don’t think I don’t see the way you look at her. You don’t want to punish her. You want to get your hands on her. It’s not going to happen while I’m still breathing. Get me a chair.”

Jack hauled her up and she let him. If this was what it took, she could handle it. Hell, a part of her was already soft and wet. Deep down it was what she had hoped for. She glanced around at the crowd of people watching while Jack was brought a chair. They were going to watch him spank her. She hadn’t really hoped for this part. She felt her skin flush as they watched her.

Julian and Leo seemed particularly interested, but Sally’s head was up, too. There was a strangely familiar face in the back. He had black, fashionably tousled hair and wore trendy clothes. He was young, but he watched the scene before him with a fascination that was hard to miss. An older man in a suit, however, stood right behind the young man, and his disdain shone on his pinched face. It took her back to a time when she saw that look on a lot of people’s faces. She felt seventeen again, with the contempt of her hometown all around her. She’d been young and pregnant, and they’d called her a whore.

“Abigail.” Jack’s voice brought her back to reality. He sat on one of the office chairs from the horny ad execs scene. “Come here.”

She turned away from the man with the disgusted expression. The rest of the room didn’t seem shocked at what was about to happen. They were excited. A thrill went through her. Screw the guy in the back. She wasn’t going to let people like that affect her anymore. She walked to Jack and let him pull her over his lap.

Her pussy throbbed in anticipation. Her mouth went dry as Jack’s big hands stroked up her legs and began to push her skirt up. She was suddenly glad she’d fought Sam on her choice of underwear. He’d pushed for a thong, but she was eager to wear the cute silk bikinis that matched her corset. Now it would give her a bit of modesty.

“What the fuck?” Jack fingered the underwear. “Since when do I allow you to wear panties? Get me a knife.”

So much for modesty. She felt a touch of metal as Jack cut the super-expensive underwear off her body. She watched them fall to the side.

“You’re just running wild aren’t you, baby?
