I adore romantic comedies because I always walkaway feeling lighter…not weighed down as much by the chaos of real life because for several hours I’m allowed to enter a world filled with humor, steam, and amazingly dynamic characters, and as the author tells the hero and heroine’s story working towards their happily ever after, the comical scenes, supporting characters as well as the magnetism between the main characters makes this genre one of my favorites. 

The premise of Jack and McKenna’s story is quite intriguing and Lila Monroe does a great job building their story line from the reason McKenna initially needs Jack’s assistance to just how quickly their partnership becomes so much more than either of them ever considered a relationship could be, even if McKenna convinced Jack to financially back her dating app with the sales pitch that she could find his perfect match…someone who isn’t her.

Witty banter, sexual tension, and sweet and swoon worthy moments are perfectly combined to prove to readers just how ‘perfect’ these two are for each other and while both Jack and McKenna make their share of blunders and miscalculations, when it truly counts, they come through, keeping things quite classy and even a little bit sassy;)

Perfect Match is a hilarious, feel good story that had me swooning just as much as laughing. Jack and McKenna’s chemistry was off the charts from their very first encounter and even though their views on dating and romance didn’t quite match up, when they looked beyond what they deemed as ‘perfect,’ they found themselves yearning for one another, redefining who they thought could be their ‘one.’

TM Frazier could not have developed more symbolic names or more poetic ideas for the titles of the books in her newest duet: The Outskirts and The Outliers. Both terms imply that the setting as well as those who find themselves dwelling in its less than desirable location are hiding from the world and the shitstorm that has already rained down on them…but these ‘outsiders’ seem to find their place in this ‘little backward town in the middle of nowhere USA’ because there is always beauty to be found within the muck…there’s always light to be found in the darkness…there’s always love to be found in the least likely of places, especially when it seems hopeless due to the cruelty that has already been endured.

By the end of The Outliers, Sawyer’s education and initiation into the world outside her captivity at the hands of her father has allowed her to truly understand all that she was missing out on and all that she still has to learn. She is still fairly naïve, but it’s that innocence that allows Sawyer to work through all of the ugliness that she has faced and determine that it will no longer hold her down…that it will no longer hinder her from truly living. And with Finn by her side as well as a few other outliers who have become her family…her everything, she’s able to put the past behind her and look to a much fuller and happier future. That’s not to say that she doesn’t have setbacks and that her past doesn’t find a way to put her present in chaos, but her new outlook and life’s revelations have allowed her a way to see beyond her fear and fight against the demons that threaten to destroy what she has built in the Outskirts.

Finn, in a way, is reborn through his love and need to protect Sawyer. His past is just as heartbreaking, but he can see passed it because Sawyer offers him a way into the light, and because of that gift, Finn opens up and finds himself a little on the outside. In a way, though, I feel like Finn takes on more of a secondary role in book two because it’s Sawyer’s past that has to be dealt with and it seems kind of fitting that Sawyer is allowed to spread her wings a bit and find her way. I’m not saying that Finn is in any way less important in book two because he’s not, but Sawyer is at the forefront of The Outliers, which feels right given everything that had to be dealt with concerning the world she fled.

Love fiercely. Love possessively. Love crazily. Love always.

That’s the lesson that the characters of The Outskirts Duet and its readers learn through everything that is revealed and all that unfolds in book two. And, while the second part of Sawyer and Finn’s story is not as twisted or unhinged as what TM Frazier usually writes, the plot line as well as the way things are handled seem to fit the point in their lives these characters have reached and what’s truly important when it comes to moving forward and feeling more whole than they’ve ever felt before.

Sawyer and Finn both went from merely existing to truly living and fighting for a forever with each other, which proves that even those who live on the outer edges and feel detached and different from everyone else deserve a life filled with love and family and they’ll fight dirty if it means that their life gets a little lighter amidst the darkness and murkiness of their humble lifestyles.

Ever since Helena Hunting introduced Lexington Mills to readers, I’ve been impatiently waiting for his book and then when I read Hunting’s contribution to Eye Candy and witnessed how Lex gravitated towards Amie and the chemistry that sizzled between them despite pencil-dick Armstrong’s claim on her, I became a one-woman cheer squad for Lex and Amie to explore their mutual attraction and boy does Hunting give them the perfect setting to be one another’s ‘temporary diversion’ and maybe even more if Lex has anything to say and do about it.

I’ve had the pleasure of being introduced to a bevy of kickass heroes in the worlds that Helena Hunting creates, and I’ve adored the lot of them, but Lexington Mills is in a class of his own. I love how much of a paradoxical man Lex is; some people perceive him as a ‘good-time guy’ with not much substance, and while he tends to play up that idea, only doing what he HAS to do and nothing more, Lex is not that simple of a man. There’s a depth to him that few see because they choose not to and their opinion of him does not matter to Lex because he knows the kind of man he CAN be and he proves that with how he handles his business while in Bora Bora and when he returns home and how he shows another side of himself to Amie – the side that allows her to be herself and to explore how free Lex makes her feel just by simply being around him.

I would choose Anarchy Amie over reserved and demure Amalie every single time. I can’t say that I blame her for going with Armstrong because he does appear to be the ‘safer’ choice and the complete opposite of the bad boys she dated in her wilder days, but she should have gone with her gut instead of feeling like marrying him was the best choice to make. But once she’s done with Armstrong, she’s DONE and Helena Hunting does a fantastic job of transforming Amie into the woman she was before Armstrong, which is exactly who she has always been at her core and it’s the woman who Lex can’t get enough of, even when their sexual liaisons were not supposed to continue once they returned to their ‘normal’ lives.

Armstrong definitely gets the douche award for everything that he is and for every single despicable and demented word and act that he says and does to Amie and Lex. If there was one man who deserved to catch every STD on the face of the Earth, it would be him because he is that much of a slime ball.

Helena Hunting definitely has me HOOKED on her stories and her characters and I can’t wait to see what she brings readers next!

When I was twenty-two, I met a prince.  He seemed to be the exact opposite of everything I was—loud where I was quiet, smiling where I frowned, careless where I was careful, careful, careful.  Embry joined the Army because Vivienne Moore wanted her son to craft the perfect politician’s resume.  I joined because it seemed like the place to continue my never-ending quest for honor; because becoming an officer in the Army had a certain cachet in my neighborhood; because I wanted to somehow cosmically return the favor for my college scholarship; because the structure and rigid hierarchy of military life appealed to me.

Most importantly, I joined because I knew Carpathia was the most dangerous place in the world at the time, and I felt needed there in a way I can’t describe.  It was like a barometric pressure that made my bones and teeth ache when I tried to resist it.  I knew that I was supposed to be there in the same way I knew that God was real or that I was bisexual.  It was a fact, even if it couldn’t be seen.

And after all that, then I see this lieutenant refuse to break up a fight?  When we were there on the brink of war and responsible for safekeeping innocents nearby?  No.  I wasn’t an angry person, but I was a disciplined one, and the one thing I couldn’t tolerate in other people was a lack of it.

I only meant to shake some sense into him, to tell him clearly and unmistakably that he wouldn’t get away with that shit while I was around, but then he turned, and I saw his face for the first time.

And it was over.

Done.

One look at those winter-blue eyes and those delicate lips and I was finished.  One glance at his lean, long body, and I was falling.  Every part of me responded with heat and flush and wrenching want, like a hook had been fastened somewhere in my chest and was now giving an almighty tug, and the only thing to ease the ache would be to get closer, closer, closer.

I’d never seen a boy so beautiful.  Haughty as he was, overindulged and so obviously dissolute, he was the loveliest person, boy or girl, I’d ever seen.

I still pinned him against the wall, though.  And it was when I had him against the wall with my forearm on his throat and my body trapping his that he sealed his fate.  As I was choking him, he looked at me with his whole world in his eyes.
