JB Salsbury – Fighting For Honor

New York Times and USA Today Bestselling author JB Salsbury brings her Fighting series to Harper Sloan’s Hope Town in this Kindle Worlds exclusive, Fighting for Honor.

UFL fighter Caleb hasn’t been to Hope Town since he was eighteen. His next big fight takes place in Atlanta and the serene lakefront home from his childhood is the perfect place to train without distractions.

Until he stumbles downstairs to find a woman in his house. He’s met her before, and he’s never forgotten.

Honor was raised by her grandfather, Crazy Colonel Cartwright. Ostracized at a young age she was an outcast. Combined with her awkward personality and she became the local bully’s favorite plaything.

Honor and Caleb come face-to-face and feelings from fourteen years ago come rushing back—not all of them good.

She prefers to remain unknown, but she’s seen in public with the world’s most talked about fighter and thrust into a national spotlight that catches the attention of her childhood tormentors.

And they aren’t finished with her yet.

Felicia Lynn: How To Breathe

I can’t go back to the man I was any more than I can forget the memories locked inside me. Few men qualified for the mission and even fewer were willing to accept the required life sentence. Counting the days, good and bad, I exist as the world keeps spinning.

There’s a price to pay for a life with a greater purpose, but the healing of time is a damn liar. I’m supposed to be a dead man, and the silence couldn’t be more deafening. Even though I could never look back, I thought I’d taken enough out of that life to carry me forward. The success of the mission was meant to give the tragedy of my life meaning, but I’ve been stuck in this wreckage of my past . . . until now.

One look into her eyes disarms me. These walls I’ve built shouldn’t break on their own, but they crumble whenever she’s near. I’ve spent years waiting for a reason to breathe again, and now that I have her within reach, I’m not sure I can keep her. Is it possible to find both the missing piece of my soul and the remedy to my healing in one set of bright green eyes?

JM Walker: For You

Brogan Tapp tries to be strong. Guilt and fear that the man she loves will fall within himself and not know how to find his way out, haunts her.

Coby Porter vows not to let the demons in his mind take over. He plans a trip to save his relationship, once and for all.

Hope Town, Georgia is the saving grace for their love, before the nightmares consume them both.

SR Watson – Deliverance

Bleu Loren

My life has never been my own. I’ve always been a rule follower—the obedient girl who always did what she was told. I played the part given to me and got engaged to the man my parents set me up with. He was supposed to be my Prince Charming. He promised me a happily ever after, only he delivered a nightmare instead. Now I’m on the run. No money. No plan. Just freedom. How ironic is it that my desperate escape lands me in a place called Hope Town? I lost hope a long time ago.

Beau Rivers Lair

I’m a manwhore. It’s a known fact and exactly how I like it. I make my own rules and live without expectations. Returning to Hope Town to help the woman who raised me with her restaurant meant my past was here to greet me, but I refuse to allow the mirage of possibilities to engulf me a second time around. I don’t believe in love or fairy-tale endings. There’s lust, and there’s screwing. I don’t have time for anyone or anything outside of these two principles. There is no hope for me. Accept it or not … you’ve been warned!

Somethin’ Bad by Cat Mason

Tequila can make a woman do somethin’ stupid.

Somethin’ bad…

After celebrating my birthday with my best friends turns into the most embarrassing night of my life, the last thing I expected was to see him walk into my bakery. The sexy smile on his face lets me know that he has no intention of letting me off the hook either. He doesn’t want an apology or an explanation.

He wants me.

The way Matt Hudson crashes into my life and bosses me around as if he has known me all my life is frustrating. What’s even worse is the power he has to bring me to my knees with the flash of one his panty-melting smiles. He steals my control without even trying.

Makes me want.

Makes me need.

Even when my life begins to unravel right before my eyes, there is a part of me hoping that the man my friends have dubbed Hunk P.D. may be something good to come out of all my heartache.

The entire Corps Security series is together for a limited time box set.

Years after the Marines brought them together, the men of Corps Security are together again.

These six novels follow their lives as they take a chance at love. Can love truly conquer all?

From broken souls to broken hearts, they all will find out if they’ll get their second chance at happily ever afters and that love really is worth fighting for.

**Warning**
These books are intended for a mature reading audience and aren’t suitable for younger readers. There are some mild scenes of abuse that happen outside of the relationship of the H/h in some of the books.

Review

I’m a little late to the game when it comes to Devney Perry’s Jamison Valley series, but from all of the rave reviews and blogger love for the first two books, I knew I needed to find out exactly what was happening in the little town of Prescott, Montana, and even though I started with the third book in the series, The Lucky Heart, I felt right at home with Perry’s characters and small town setting.

Perry makes it easy to see why Felicity Cleary’s journey home after a 14 year absence is a complicated situation. Because Prescott is a small community where most people are born and remain for all of their lives, everyone’s business is known by everyone else, and it’s clear that Felicity pissed off a lot of people, not only with her ‘mean girl’ routine in high school, her quick exit after graduation, but also with how she left things with her ex-boyfriend and the other man who seemed to hold her heart even when she refused to recognize it. Felicity has a lot to make up for, and while she wants to make amends for the hurt she caused and the way she treated people, her insecurities and vulnerabilities don’t illustrate her repentance  because in protecting herself, she resorts back to the girl she was, pushing people away and lashing out in order to protect herself from getting hurt.

I had a love/hate relationship with Felicity for much of the story. It was difficult for me to get a good read on her because she seemed so lost inside her head, constantly vowing to reinvent herself but finding it difficult to change her ways. Her guilt and her heartbreaking memories of her time in Prescott dictate her actions for a good portion of the book, which almost makes me feel like she didn’t learn a thing since she’s been gone; don’t get me wrong, it’s clear that she wants to fix her mistakes and Silas Grant is at the top of the list, but instead of being honest and calling each other out for their shitty attitudes and behavior, they go back and forth between fighting or fucking, at least at the beginning and then their connection seems to be fizzle out, not truly illustrating the depth of their feelings for one another, and even though it seems to be life that’s getting in the way of progress, it’s still frustrating to be stuck in neutral.

Silas Grant is definitely one hot rancher, and it’s clear that his feelings for Felicity have always been more than friendly. She shattered his heart when she left, but now that she’s returned, he’s hellbent on making her his, even if he has to compete with a ghost and feel second best. What amazes me most about Silas is that he becomes Felicity’s champion pretty much from the start; at first, Silas definitely feels animosity towards her, but he soon stands by her and helps her find her way in a town where she’s having a difficult time rewriting history.

Whatever You Want – that’s Silas’ constant tagline when it comes to Felicity, and it will stay that way for, what he hopes, is the rest of his life. And while, he and Felicity may not have felt lucky in love or in life for the 14 years they were apart, that all seems to change when Felicity willingly allows Silas on her long and difficult journey home.

About 1001 Dark Nights: Bundle Eleven

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling authors Kristen Proby, Elisabeth Naughton, Laura Kaye, Donna Grant, and introducing Meghan March and Jessica Scott.

Six Dark Tales. Six Sensual Stories. Six Page Turners.

EASY FOR KEEPS: A Boudreaux Novella by Kristen Proby

Adam Spencer loves women. He’s comfortable with his lifestyle and sees no reason to change it. Sarah Cox has just moved to New Orleans, having accepted a position as a social worker. It’s a demanding, sometimes dangerous job, but Sarah can handle just about anything that comes at her, even the attentions of one sexy Adam Spencer. But the more time she spends with the enchanting man, the more he begins to sway her into believing in forever.

Review

I absolutely adore the easy, charming way that Kristen Proby brings readers into her stories and shares her characters and her plot lines – components that do more than paint romantic images – they shed light on life lessons and teach the importance of family, of love, of the limitless strength people are capable of when life throws chaos into their life.

Easy For Keeps – it’s quite the contradictory title because keeping anything is far from easy, but it also indicates that even when people aren’t looking to belong to someone…don’t believe in happily ever after, the most necessary individuals merge into their lives and overshadow everything else, creating a bond that refuses to break regardless of the obstacles that must be overcome.

Adam and Sarah’s story illustrates the idea that life is meant to be lived, and it should never be taken for granted because in the blink of an eye, everything can change. Adam is rocked to his core by Sarah’s honesty and positive thinking. And Sarah’s daughter, Hailey, wraps Adam around her little finger and proves that he is way more capable of loving someone and believing in forever than he had originally thought.

Easy For Keeps is a sweet and steamy novella that brings a Boudreaux series supporting character into the spotlight and gives him what readers have wanted since meeting him in Callie’s story – a woman that possesses every part of his soul and a family that he wants more than anything else.

UNCHAINED: An Eternal Guardians Novella by Elisabeth Naughton

For thousands of years, Prometheus’s only certainty was his daily torture at Zeus’s hand. Now, unchained by the Eternal Guardians, he spends his days in solitude, trying to forget the past. He’s vowed no allegiance in the war between mortal and immortal, but when a beautiful maiden seeks him out and begs for his help, he’s once again powerless to say no. Soon, Prometheus is drawn into the very conflict he swore to avoid.

Review

Because I’m unfamiliar with Elisabeth Naughton’s Eternal Guardian series, I feel like I missed the build-up and world setting of Unchained. Unchained is a short novella that actually occurs in two different settings, but because of the other worldly powers that Prometheus and Circe have as a Titan and sorceress, the way that the hero and heroine connect makes sense.

Even though I have very little knowledge of Naughton’s series, I’m very familiar with Greek Mythology, so Prometheus and Circe are not new characters, and the fact that Zeus is both characters’ enemy is easy to believe with Zeus being the god of all gods and his determination to control everyone, everywhere, and while Circe’s objective when it comes to wielding magical spells on Prometheus is a bit underhanded, in the end, Zeus’ ‘chains that bind these two characters serve as a way to potentially beat Zeus at his own game.

I’m a big fan of modern-day interpretations of mythological characters and events, and I enjoyed Unchained’s spin on two well-known other worldly beings, but I do feel like there was too much plot line to handle for a story of its size, which made it difficult to truly understand the characters’ feelings for one another and the full reason for Zeus’ punishments and what having the four elements will allow him to do.

HARD TO SERVE: A Hard Ink Novella by Laura Kaye

When Internal Affairs investigates Detective Kyler Vance as part of the new police commissioner’s bid to oust corruption, everything is on the line. Mia Breslin’s career is golden. Now if only she could find a man to dominate her nights and set her body—and her heart—on fire. When a scorching scene with a hard-bodied, brooding Dom at Blasphemy promises just that, Mia is lured to serve Kyler again and again.

Review

Kyler Vance is quite the paradoxical man; he’s a detective who lives to serve and protect and feels honored to defend citizens from danger, but there’s also a part of him who lives to dominant…who gets off on taking women to the edge of pleasure and pain, getting them to submit to his every demand. Kyler is a natural Dom due to his profession and his personality, but he’s not looking for a permanent submissive because claiming any sub isn’t conducive to the hours and dangers he experiences as a detective. He’ll play with a bevy of beautiful subs at the club, but nothing goes further than the club and no feelings ever enter into the game because anything long term will only end in ruin for both of them.

Mia Breslin may look like the girl next door, but her favorite kind of sexual kink is being dominated by a Dom who knows how to make her submit and isn’t afraid to choke her enough to quickly find her release. The only problem with wanting to submit to a guy is the fact that once he finds out that her father’s a cop, the Dom finds it difficult to treat her roughly when she could easily have him arrested for his cruel treatment.

Kyler and Mia meet at Blasphemy and their attraction to one another is instantaneous, but Kyler’s rules threaten to prevent anything further from happening between them even though it’s clear from the start that they have more than just sexual feelings for each other. But how can their relationship become more than just scenes at the club when Master Kyler holds all the power and he might not be willing to risk his job or let go of his feelings on how being a cop always ruins relationships.

Hard to Serve is an interesting title because based on the events in the story, there are many reasons as to why Kyler finds his job as a detective difficult and Mia finds it hard to keep submitting to a man who sends her mixed messages and doesn’t seem to consider how she feels in everything that occurs between them.

I absolutely adored Kyler and Mia’s story, and if Hard to Serve is any indication of what Laura Kaye’s new Blasphemy series is going to be like, readers are in for sensual heroines, dominating alpha males, sexy as sin scenes and just the right amount of angst to illustrate that the couple has what it takes to get through anything.

Throughout Kyler and Mia’s story, readers are introduced to many of the Masters at Blasphemy, and while I’m intrigued by all of them, there’s one in particular I hope is the hero in Bound to Submit. Once you read Hard to Serve, I think readers will want his story as well;)

DRAGON FEVER: A Dark Kings Novella by Donna Grant

Rachel Marek intends to expose the truth about dragons to the world – and her target is within sight. Nothing matters but getting the truth, especially not the ruggedly handsome, roguishly thrilling Highlander who oozes danger and charm. Asher is more than just a man. He’s a Dragon King – a being who has roamed this planet since the beginning of time. With everything on the line, Asher must choose to trust an enemy in the form of an all too alluring woman whose tenacity and passion captivate him.

Review

I’m always intrigued by humanities need to uncover the truth about anything other worldly; they act as if it is their right to know all secrets, exposing the truth for the good of mankind. But here’s the thing, the means to which humans work to unearth the ‘truth’ is both underhanded and manipulative and usually is done for the wrong reasons or for altruistic ones that can’t truly be reached.

It’s interesting to see Rachel/Rae work her ruse on Asher King – one of the Dragon Kings – because for someone who always seeks the truth in a way that doesn’t compromise her personal integrity, she did not anticipate how Asher would make her feel and make her burn for a chance to be with him and by throwing her off balance, Rachel realizes that the truth isn’t always black and white and sometimes, exposing lies, corruption, and evil actually leads to a path of regrets and unanswered questions, forcing lines to be crossed and perspectives changed.

Asher is quite the sexy alpha dragon and the way he feels drawn to Rae is not something that has happened to him, which confirms what dragon kings before him have spoke of, and while it’s not something he would have considered before, now, he’s desperate to claim Rachel as his own.

In some ways, Rachel is simply a pawn in the war against the Dragon Kings and while it’s unclear exactly what the feud is over, which is probably partially due to my unfamiliarity with the series, the world Grant creates as well as the dark and light other worldly beings are quite an interesting lot and make me want to go back and read the rest of the series to truly understand all the players involved and what their end games might be.

BENEATH THESE SHADOWS by Meghan March

The only permanent thing in my life is the ink I put on my clients.
I drift from city to city, in and out of beds, from one tattoo shop to the next.
Every time I start to put down roots, I rip them up.
Until New Orleans.
Until her.
She’s everything I’m not.
Full of fire and life. An innocent where I’m a sinner.
I want to consume her. Protect her. Keep her.
But first, I have to escape from beneath these shadows.

Review

Beneath these shadows is a woman who has spent much of her life in enforced isolation, feeling trapped and helpless in a world she never wanted to be a part of, having her minimal life experiences dictated for her.

Amidst these shadows is a man with a dark past – one that makes him feel unworthy and one that forces him to always be moving in the shadows, never getting too close to anyone because he never knows when his past will come for him and require him to flee.

Set, once again, in the vibrant, eclectic, and delectable city of New Orleans, Eden learns what it means to truly live…to shed her perceived innocence and dirty up the prim and proper ways that she’s always followed, and there’s no better man to help Eden dirty herself up than Bishop – the “man-bunned tattooed giant” whose instant attraction to her demands that he protect, defend, and claim her in order to bring some sweetness into his life.

Meghan March’s Beneath series is one of my all-time favorites because the setting of New Orleans becomes its own character in each couples’ story, and due to its welcoming arms to all types of people, it’s easy to find someone who fits another person way more than s/he could have ever imagined.

March’s leading men definitely all carry the alpha male gene, but she gives each hero his own set of demons to contend with and then ensures that her guys find the one woman who may appear their exact opposite but end up being the perfect one to heal and to love these scarred and soulful men.

Bishop and Eden’s story is all about experiencing life outside of the shadows; it’s about figuring out who you truly are and what you truly want out of life – a life that you don’t have to continually look behind you to see if your past or if someone else’s issues are still chasing you. It’s about dirtying up a life that was never meant to be pure and it’s about finding the one person who you would willingly risk everything for because that kind of connection is not one that can be denied regardless if fighting it would be a hell of a lot easier to remain beneath the shadows.

Bishop was trying to stay in the shadows while Eden was trying to break free from them and live, but when they found each other, they hoped that their relationship would help them find a place somewhere in the middle and with its bright lights and dark nights, New Orleans is the perfect place for them to set each other free.

BEFORE I FALL: A Falling Novel by Jessica Scott

Beth Lamont knows too much about the harsh realities of life. She’ll do whatever it takes to take care of her father, even if that means tutoring a guy like Noah. Noah Warren doesn’t know how to be a student. All he knows is war. But he’s going to college now to fulfill a promise and he doesn’t break his promises. Except he doesn’t count on his tutor being drop dead gorgeous.

Every Dark Nights tale is breathtakingly sexy and magically romantic.

About the 1001 Dark Nights: Bundle Eleven Authors

Kristen Proby was born and raised in a small resort town in her beloved Montana. In her mid-twenties, she decided to stretch her wings and move to the Pacific Northwest, where she made her home for more than a dozen years.

During that time, Kristen wrote many romance novels and joined organizations such as RWA and other small writing groups. She spent countless hours in workshops, and more mornings than she can count up before the dawn so she could write before going to work. She submitted many manuscripts to agents and editors alike, but was always told no. In the summer of 2012, the self-publishing scene was new and thriving, and Kristen had one goal: to publish just one book. It was something she longed to cross off of her bucket list.

Not only did she publish one book, she’s since published close to thirty titles, many of which have hit the USA Today, New York Times and Wall Street Journal Bestsellers lists. She continues to self publish, best known for her With Me In Seattle and Boudreaux series, and is also proud to work with William Morrow, a division of HarperCollins, with the Fusion Series.

Kristen and her husband, John, make their home in her hometown of Whitefish, Montana with their two pugs and two cats.

Elisabeth Naughton is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author. From Elisabeth: “I was never one of those people who knew they wanted to be an author at the age of six. I didn’t have imaginary friends. I didn’t write stories in my journal or entertain my relatives by firelight after Thanksgiving dinner. For the most part, I was just a normal, everyday kid. I liked to read, but I wasn’t exceptional at it. And when my teachers complimented me on my writing abilities, I brushed them off. I did, however, always have a penchant for the unique and absurd. And as my mother told me all throughout my childhood, I should have been an actress—I was a drama queen before my time.

“Years ago, my husband bought me Scarlett: The Sequel to Gone With The Wind. If you ever saw the book, you know it’s a long one. I sat and read that thing from cover to cover, and dreamed of one day being a writer. But I didn’t actually try my hand at writing until years later when I quit my teaching job to stay home with my kids. And my husband? After that week of reading where I neglected him and everything else until I finished Scarlett, he vowed never to buy me another book again. Little did he know I’d one day end up sitting at a keyboard all day drafting my own stories.

“My writing journey has not been easy. I didn’t just sit down one day, decide I was going to write a book and voila! sell my very first attempt. As most authors will probably agree, the path to publication is filled with hours of work, pulling all-nighters I thought I’d given up in college, sacrifices, rejections, but a love I discovered along the way I just can’t live without. Instead of a big, thick book to read by lamplight (I do read much smaller ones when I get the chance), I’ve traded in my reading obsession for a laptop. And I’ve never been happier.

“I’m one of the lucky ones. I have a wonderful family and fabulous husband who put up with my writing—and obsessive personality—even when life is chaotic. More than once my kids have been late to swimming or baseball because I needed just five more minutes to finish a scene. Their support and encouragement mean the world to me. I also have amazing friends and a support network I couldn’t survive without. So to all of you out there who have encouraged me along the way, sent me emails and fan letters, phone calls and congratulations, I just want to say, thank you. You make this whole writing gig that much more enjoyable. I truly wouldn’t be here without you.”

THE WILL

Excerpt

Present day…

I took in the mess of the large, circular room we were in and at first saw nothing but the mess—decaying furniture, a soot-covered stone fireplace, a kitchen that might have been put in in the forties but had not only not been touched the last nine years, it perhaps had not been touched the last nineteen (or more).

Then I saw more.

The extraordinarily carved railing to the sweeping wood staircase that ran the curved side of the house. The red brick walls. The plank wood floors.

“Once upon a time, long ago,” the realtor was suddenly talking wistfully, “someone loved this place. Put that love into building it. Put that love into keeping it. Nine years and more when no one really gave a whit, and still you can see it once had a lot of love.”

Oh yes.

You could see that.

“It’s got a basement, more like a big crawl space,” the agent declared, surprising me with his quick change in tone back to businesslike and informative. “The furnace is down there. You can get down there through a door in the floor. The furnace was put in a while back, and full disclosure, though an inspection will catch it, it probably needs to be replaced.”

Through his words I stared at the fireplace, which scoured would be magnificent, and I noticed it didn’t have a chimney as such, but the smoke probably went out a vent in the wall.

“This floor has a powder room under the stairs,” the realtor kept on. “You can look at it if you want, but if you wanna save yourself that, I’ll just tell you straight, it needs to be gutted.”

I decided to take his word for it and told him that.

He looked relieved when I did before he stated, “Place has a garage, two car. Not in good condition, but think you saw that. Still, it’s close to the house and there’s a covered walkway to that door over there.” He pointed at a door that was across from the door we’d walked in. “Means you might feel a chill but you won’t get wet, unless it’s raining sideways, which happens.”

With a breeze that plastered my jacket to me on a sunny, early spring day, I did not doubt that.

“Garage has a loft space above it, which could be renovated as a studio rental if you’ve a mind to do that sort of thing. As for the property itself, it also has a building where the generators are stowed,” the realtor carried on. “Hook up for a washer and dryer and good space in there. Lots of it for storage. Which is good because there’s not a lot of storage in here for tools and Christmas decorations and whatnot.”

I glanced around seeing he was right. There wasn’t even enough cabinetry to house the things a decent cook would need in her kitchen. Though there was room for them. In fact, if you fought back the gloom, there was quite a bit of room.

“And there’s a place outside, could call it a studio, could call it a mother-in-law house,” he shared. “Whatever, it’s got goodly space, two bedrooms, big kitchen. Could be renovated to be a guest house. Or like I said, a studio if you’re artsy. Or you could rent it out like a B and B. I’ll show you all of that after we have a look at the lighthouse.”

“Thanks,” I replied.

“Now, since I mentioned full disclosure, you have to know it all,” the realtor continued.

Slowly, my eyes went to him.

When they did, he launched in. “Like I said, it’s automated. And like I said, you won’t really have to concern yourself with the functionality of that unless the electricity goes out, but then the generators automatically kick in. There are two. But you’ll need to keep fuel on hand to keep them going in case a blackout lasts awhile. And just to say, this is coastal Maine. We get weather. Blackouts can last awhile.”

When I nodded to share I took that in, he kept going.

“And if you’re, say, away on vacation, you need to make sure someone is playing backup in such a case.”

“Okay,” I replied when he stopped talking, thinking this probably wasn’t a good thing since I knew no one in Maine (or not anyone who wanted to know me) and thus couldn’t call on anyone to do something like that.

I also didn’t hold high hopes I’d make friends and win people. I hadn’t had a lot of success in that in my life.

And last, although Patrick believed it completely, I held no hope that the reason I was out there was going to come to fruition.

That being me having a happy ending.

That being what Patrick thought would be my happy ending.

Which might mean I’d have someone, a certain someone, or actually two (at least), even though I knew I never would.

About Kristen Ashley

Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA and nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorize and she hadn’t taken her first breath!). Her mother said they took Kristen away, put her Mom back in her room, her mother looked out the window, and Gary was on fire (Dr. King had been assassinated four days before). Kristen’s Mom remembered thinking it was the end of the world. Quite the dramatic beginning.

Nothing’s changed.

Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana and has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus, she’s blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her family was (is) loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write. They all lived together on a very small farm in a small farm town in the heartland. She grew up with Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).

Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing, it keeps getting better.

RELEASE REVIEW: FALLEN HEIR by Erin Watt

Blurb

These Royals will ruin you.

Easton Royal has it all: looks, money, intelligence. His goal in life is to have as much fun as possible. He never thinks about the consequences because he doesn’t have to.

Until Hartley Wright appears, shaking up his easy life. She’s the one girl who’s said no, despite being attracted to him. Easton can’t figure her out and that makes her all the more irresistible.

Hartley doesn’t want him. She says he needs to grow up.

She might be right.

Rivals. Rules. Regrets. For the first time in Easton’s life, wearing a Royal crown isn’t enough. He’s about to learn that the higher you start, the harder you fall.

Warning: This book has a cliffhanger. The story will be resolved in Cracked Kingdom, due out January 2018.

Review

Ever since meeting Easton Royal and witnessing his ‘life of the party’ demeanor, I’ve wanted to see and understand who Easton truly is – the young man hidden behind his wealth…behind his excessive ways…behind his smartass comments…behind his addictions…behind his unrelenting need to lash out.

I honestly believe that even after finishing Fallen Heir, Erin Watt has only begun to illustrate everything that is Easton Royal, and I think that’s deliberate because, perhaps, he hasn’t even revealed his true nature to the authors, which means that readers are in for one hell of a ride when the second part of his story releases at the beginning of next year.

But what has been proven about Easton is that he doesn’t know how to handle his emotions…he doesn’t know what to do with all of his pent-up energy because it never seems to dissipate and every attempt for him to get a handle on his addictive personality and self destructive ways ends up ruining everything he tries to achieve. What’s also clear is the fact that Easton believes he’s a bit of an outsider, even in his own family, which stems from his middle child status. Easton needs to be the center of attention and his way of doing that definitely puts him in the spotlight, but from what readers witness in Fallen Heir, it’s a place that only leads him to play the part of dumb jock…of spoiled rich kid…of loose cannon.

It’s hard to get a handle on who Hartley Wright is, not only because readers don’t get her perspective but also because she’s an extremely private person and wants nothing more than to remain in the shadows at Astor Park Prep, doing what she needs to do to get back what’s she lost. But because Easton shows an interest in Hartley and goes out of his way to thrust her into the spotlight with him, a series of rash decisions and good intentions gone wrong end up destroying all of Hartley’s progress as well as Easton’s attempts to make things right, not only between him and Hartley but among several other significant people who have gone out of their way to prove just how hard the powerful can fall.

Easton and Hartley’s relationship, while central to developing the story and responsible for the events that transpire, is still very much a work-in-progress, and it clearly remains in question as to the type of connection they share. Both of them don’t seem to know how to keep their friendship of an even playing ground, partly because no one seems to be able to truly outplay Easton but also because it seems that Easton wants things from Hartley that she can’t or won’t give him. There’s definitely an attraction and a connection albeit tenuous between them, but because they are both broken and still trying to find their way, not only at Astor Park Prep, but in all aspects of their lives, nothing can be sorted out when it comes to what they mean to one another, which makes it difficult to see any future friendship or romantic relationship for them.

Astor Park Prep continues to be the perfect setting for The Royals series; the facade of the school and the idea that the students and their parents’ money seem to run the school instead of the adults further explains why none of the Astor students are held accountable for their actions. The social hierarchy at play as well as the other students’ need to ‘bring down the crown’ illustrates exactly what everything comes back to – money, appearances, and power.

The Royal family is still as broken as it was in the previous books, even though family dinners and the lack of family fights paints a picture of solidarity. There are still deep wounds that remain open and continue to separate brother from brother and father from son, and with the events that occur at the end of Fallen Heir, it’s difficult to believe that anything between the Royals can be repaired because unearthed secrets and devastating actions cannot be taken back or fixed by throwing money at them.

RELEASE PROMO AND EXCERPT: Everything Under the Sun by Jessica Redmerski

Blurb

Thais Fenwick was eleven-years-old when civilization fell, devastated by a virus that killed off the majority of the world’s population. For seven years, Thais and her family lived in a community of survivors deep in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains. But when her town is attacked by raiders, she and her blind sister are taken away to the East-Central Territory where she is destined to live the cruel and unjust kind of life her late mother warned her about.

Atticus Hunt is a troubled soldier in Lexington City who has spent the past seven years trying to conform to the vicious nature of men in a post-apocalyptic society. He knows that in order to survive, he must abandon his morals and his conscience and become like those he is surrounded by. But when he meets Thais, morals and conscience win out over conformity, and he risks his rank and his life to help her. They escape the city and set out together on a long and perilous journey to find safety in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Struggling to survive in a world without electricity, food, shelter, and clean water, Atticus and Thais shed their fear of growing too close, and they fall hopelessly in love. But can love survive in such dark times, or is it fated to die with them?

Excerpt: “AND YOU ASK WHY?”

“Why are you so angry, Atticus?” My voice was soft and concerned now.

He blinked, but offered no response.

“I’ve seen men fight before,” I went on, “but I’ve never seen a man as angry at the world as you are. The way you beat that man in your room”—I shook my head with despondency—“the one just now; Atticus, you’re just so full of rage and hate. Why?”

He snorted, as if he’d found my question ridiculous.

Why?” he mocked incredulously, holding out his hands, palms up. “I’ll tell you why, Thais: at every turn someone wants to rob or maim or kill us; we can’t sleep, night or day, without the thought in our heads as we close our fucking eyes that we might not wake up.” He gestured his arms wildly, his features constricted with indignation. “We’re covering our shit up like animals, sleeping in ditches, watching over our shoulder every second of every day for the chaos to grab us by the ankles and pull us down with it—and you ask why?”

I sat against my quilt, unable to stand to hear this truth. And as if his movements depended on mine, Atticus fell into a crouch in front of me, bouncing on the toes of his boots. I never looked away from the pull of his gaze, trapped by the intensity of it.

“I haven’t slept since you arrived in Lexington City,” he went on. “When I saw you that day, clutching your sister as she was ripped away from you; when you lay on the sidewalk, begging me to help you—it did two things to me, Thais”—he held up two fingers, and then dropped them between his legs—“it fucking killed me; the things I had to do, the part I had to play in not only your fate, but the fate of every girl in those ropes—it fucking killed me! It killed what little was left of my humanity!” His voice had risen with his heated words, his memories, but then he paused to calm himself, lowering his head but for a moment.

I remained motionless, speechless, but my heart began to ache and fill up at the same time. I listened raptly to every word, my heart breaking as he spoke them.

“It killed me,” he repeated. “But then something reached into Hell, grabbed me by the throat and pulled me back. I died that day in the street, Thais Fenwick; I died and then there I was, looking down at you with the eyes of the man I used to be, and I wanted to help you. I still fought with myself after that, but I wasn’t going to let you die or be raped or forced to marry a man you didn’t love—I didn’t know what to do, but I was going to do something, goddammit.”

I sighed. I wanted to hold him, but all I could do was sigh.

“Welcome to Latin American History.”

At that deep, lightly accented voice, my pen fell to the paper, as useless as my brain.

“This class will also serve as your Study At Sea seminar, which means I have the joy of getting to know each of you very well over the next three months since you’ll be writing a thirty-page thesis for me.”

The class groaned, and I slowly dragged my eyes from the paper, past the neck of the red-haired boy in front of me, to the man who stood at the head of our class, casually leaning against his desk. I took in the way his pants hugged his hips, the contrast of his rolled white button-down against his tanned skin, and the loose green tie at his throat. My gaze caught on his lips, the strong line of his nose and cheekbones, to the melty chocolate eyes that were focused on the other side of the room as he addressed the students there. His hair looked like he’d run his hands through it more than a few times, and his teeth flashed white when he grinned, those panty-dissolving dimples appearing.

My heart stopped beating and my breath froze in my lungs, as if the slightest motion would make him disappear. A rush of heat flushed my skin, and the knot in my chest loosened, unraveling as surely as my body had the last time I’d seen him.

“So let’s get started, shall we? I just flew in from the States today, but I’ll be sure to learn all of your names by the end of the week. Now if you’ll let me have this moment, I’ve been waiting eight years to say it— My name is Dr. Delgado.”

Two thoughts slammed into me simultaneously.

One—Delgado. At least now I knew his last name.

Two—Holy. Fucking. Shit. Cruz was my professor.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW AND EXCERPT: In the Crease by Toni Aleo

Jensen Monroe is a unicorn. As handsome as any model, as polite as can be, a goalie of unmatched skill, and the best friend anyone could ask for. But he longs for a particular special someone to make his life complete. He’s been in love with Wren since he was a teenager, but as his best friend’s sister, she’s always been off-limits.

Wren Lemiere has prided herself on being a love ’em and leave ’em girl her whole life. She’s all about equal opportunity in the battle of the sexes. Why should guys like her brother and his best friends get to be the only ones allowed to play the dating game? One wrong move, however, and she finds herself in violation of her own rules.

In need of a fake husband and baby daddy for her unexpected bundle of joy, Wren finally accepts Jensen is the logical one to ask for help. Except he has a counteroffer…one with so many strings attached, they may just find themselves wrapped up in ties that bind. Forever.

Review

It’s a good thing that Jensen Monroe loves the “slow burn and the big explosion” because for the past 15 years, he’s been pining away for one of his best friend’s little sister, burying his feelings for her because he didn’t think he was man enough for her…because she always seemed to look past him, never truly seeing him for who he was/is.

But when Wren Lemiere finds herself in need of a fake husband and baby daddy, everything between Jensen and Wren speeds up in intense and complicated ways, and while Jensen is all in from the beginning, completely willing to help Wren in every way, unless Wren goes all in with him, there’s no way to know if their relationship will end imploding and destroying their years of friendship or if it will end up being something that allows Wren to stop running and closing people out of her life because with Jensen, she can finally be herself without fearing that he will leave her like everyone before him.

Wren Lemiere, in some ways, is a walking contradiction, in part, due to her profession. She’s the Nashville Assassins team therapist, but she refuses to help herself by facing her insecurities, her self-esteem issues, or even the way she allows men to use her for sex, knowing that they’ll never commit to her. Wren is one hot mess, and I have a feeling that her thoughts and actions will not set well with some readers. I’ll admit…at some points in the story, I didn’t really know if I liked Wren because of her indecisiveness and her need to revert back to her old ways, even when she knew from the beginning that Jensen needed and wanted Wren to give their marriage a real shot. But through Jensen’s perceptions of the ‘real’ Wren and his defense of her to anyone who cuts her down, the Wren she wants to be…the one beneath her harsh and dramatic surface breaks through, and as Jensen continues to lift her up, reinforcing everything he wants her to believe about herself and their relationship, readers will see the changes that Wren goes through…will witness her self confidence blooming…will recognize all the ways that Wren is trying to be a better person…the one Jensen has always seen.

Jensen Monroe absolutely seems like the perfect man/gentleman, but perhaps his biggest imperfection, at least at the beginning of the story and according to his friends, is his unwavering commitment to Wren. She definitely doesn’t seem deserving of Jensen’s devotion and forcing things to work out between them appears to set him up for failure and heartbreak. But as their story continues, readers see that Jensen is simply an honorable and devoted man – one who loves fiercely and protects everyone he cares for, even when it might hurt him in the end. He’s always been Wren’s champion, and he continues to stand by her despite the fact that she might break his heart.

There are so many layers to who Wren is, and it’s clear that she has been shaped by her parents’ neglect. Their mistreatment has forced her to take care of herself, in part, making her seek out shitty men because she’s never felt wanted or good enough, which has also forced her to find easy fixes instead of working through things the right way even if they’re difficult. And, in order to reprogram the chaos and self-loathing that is in Wren’s head, those who love her need to stand up for her and she needs to do that for herself as well, which will be a long process, but so worth it in the end.

The bond between Jensen, Vaughn, and Wells is an important aspect of In the Crease. There’s nothing these three wouldn’t do for one another and that is clearly illustrated in a number of ways, not just when it comes to Jensen’s relationship with Wren. There is a large amount of drama in Wren and Jensen’s story, and while their relationship is the central plot line, the other conflicts add another dynamic to the text and help to reinforce how essential all of Wren and Jensen’s families and friends are, not just to who they are together but to who they are as individuals and what they need in order to not get lost in their insecurities and bad choices.

In the Crease is a powerful story about the need for people to be secure in who they are and what they need from those who love them. People’s hearts and minds are delicate, even fragile, at times, and recognizing that idea and taking the steps to ensure that no one feels unworthy can be the only thing that gets through to someone who desperately needs to feel loved and appreciated.

Brie snickered as Vaughn went on. “I know this is going to be hard. Like, really hard on you. But, buddy, I’m sorry to say, we bought a house.”

Jensen just stared back at him. “Okay? Why is this hard?”

“Because you’re not moving with us.”

He rolled his eyes. “Jo, we haven’t lived together for six months since you moved in with Brie.”

“I know, but we were across the hall.”

Jensen laughed. “I’ll be fine without you guys—”

“Now, I know this comes as a shock, but we’re having a baby, and we need space for us and the baby.”

“I know—”

“Now, Jenny, I know this is going to be difficult, putting space between us—”

“You know we lived apart for years, right?”

But Vaughn went on. “Just know I will always and forever love you as my brother, and nothing will change. Not the space, the new ball and chain, or the baby.”

“Are you done?”

Brie apparently thought this was hilarious since she was basically choking she was laughing so hard. Which wasn’t anything new. Vaughn might be an idiot, but he was a funny one. As always, Vaughn was unaffected as he said, “We’ll never be done, Jenny, never.”

“Okay,” Jensen said, rolling his eyes again. “Listen, this is awesome. I’m happy for you guys, and let me know when we need to start moving stuff.”

“You’re such a good man,” Vaughn proclaimed before clapping his hands together. “This weekend good for you?”

Laughing, he just shook his head at Vaughn’s antics. “Yeah, man.”

“Thanks, Jensen.”

He smiled over at Brie. “Anytime.”

Rolling his eyes, he went back to eating as a grin played on his lips. He wanted nothing more than for his friend to grow and be in love. Brie was that for Vaughn. They were moving and having a kid, and it was great. Vaughn needed that. So did Wells, who was getting married the following month. Both his best friends were living life, happily and to its fullest. Meanwhile, Jensen was stuck.

He didn’t know how it happened, or even why, but it had. He wasn’t interested in anyone he met, and he didn’t just want to fuck around. He wanted someone to love him for him. The quiet, weird guy in the corner. The one who would lay down his life for anyone he loved. He had redeemable qualities, but for some reason, no one wanted them. They just wanted to have sex.

He didn’t want Netflix and chill; he wanted Netflix and breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and more.

Hmm, he should copyright that.

Taking a huge bite of his chicken, he felt his phone start to vibrate. He pulled it out, seeing that it was a text from Wren, as he chewed. Like always when she texted him, his heart sped up, and his palms went clammy as a lump formed in his throat. Or maybe that was the chicken, he wasn’t sure. Either way, he slid the notification over so that his text thread with her opened up before he read her message.

Wren: Are you free anytime this week?

RELEASE BLITZ AND REVIEW: For the Love of Beard by Lani Lynn Vale

Title: For the Love of the Beard

Series: The Dixie Warden Rejects #7

Author: Lani Lynn Vale

Genre: MC Romance

Release Date: August 25, 2017

Photographer: Furious Fotog

Model: Golden Czermak

Goodreads:  https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/35272019-for-the-love-of-beard

Tobias knows that women are a lot of trouble, and one in particular is more trouble than most. Yet even with the knowledge that she’s a pain in the ass, he doesn’t stop himself from doing the one thing he knows that he shouldn’t do—fall in love with her.

It’s supposed to be simple. Get in, get the girl, and get out.

What Tobias isn’t supposed to do is fall for the woman he’s supposed to rescue. But he can’t help being intrigued–and amused–by the defiance rolling off Audrey every time he so much as speaks to her.  This fascination only intensifies with every single word from her delectable mouth.

***

It’s been six years since her assault, yet it feels like it happened just yesterday.  Audrey’s sick and tired of feeling so useless. She’s had enough of being scared, she’s doesn’t want to be all alone for the rest of her life. All of that boils down to a woman who’s had enough of not doing anything to reclaim her life.

She’s at a loss as to how to move on, and every attempt she makes results in failure.  Just when she’s ready to quit, a sexy biker is there to push her out of her comfort zone.

Under Tobias’ patient guidance, Audrey slowly makes her way back to herself.  She lands a job that she adores, and she thinks she’s finally found her place in this world. Most surprisingly, though, she finds herself falling in love with a man that honestly scares her to death.

Just when she vows to take that final step that’ll put her past in her past forever, the life she wants to live is yanked away. Leaving her with nothing to pick up the pieces.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned about Lani Lynn Vale’s Dixie Wardens’ bikers, it’s that when they go all in, investing everything that they are and giving everything that they have to give, nothing and no one will step them from claiming who or what they want, even if it’s a pain in the ass she-devil who’s supposed to be off-limits simply because she’s one of his biker brother’s sister.

Vale makes it perfectly clear, early on in her stories, that there are significant reasons as to why her heroes distance themselves from love, illustrating just how much their pasts define their futures when it comes to relationships. But what’s just as plainly shown is the fact that when these alpha bikers find the one woman they’re willing to risk their hearts for, they’ll stop at nothing to do right by them, fighting their own darkness as well as the demons their women are struggling with and making both of their lives about so much more than simply existing.

For the Love of Beard is Tobias and Audrey’s story, and it follows the bumpy path of their relationship…starting with the fact that neither want to like or be drawn to the other one when Audrey’s brother, Tunnel, needs Tobias’ help in protecting Audrey from the very people who are supposed to love her. Tobias and Audrey’s hearts are both irrevocably damaged due to other people’s actions and their fears have forced them to keep to themselves, never risking being hurt again. But as much as they’ve tried to fight their attraction to each other and their ever-developing feelings, when they’re together…when Tobias is forcing Audrey out of her comfort zone and bringing her back to the land of the living, it’s clear that they help each other to live again…to trust again…to love again and despite the obstacles, both from their pasts and what they struggle with currently, Tobias swears to protect her from the darkness and in keeping that promise, he gives himself the chance to learn that love doesn’t always end in tragedy and the idea that if Audrey can survive what happened to her, he can endure anything with her by his side.

There are some heavy issues addressed in Tobias and Audrey’s story, and Vale does a good job of handling those subjects with care, illustrating the psychological problems that occur with dramatic situations like the ones that Tobias and Audrey face. Tobias is an exceptionally patient man when it comes to Audrey and he knows exactly what to do to get her out of her house…out of her shell and back to living like she was meant to be. Vale doesn’t rush Audrey’s feelings for Tobias; in fact, the pacing is laid out in a way that readers are privy to how Audrey processes what she feels for Tobias and how she understands her body’s reaction to Tobias are positive compared to what’s she’s felt before. It’s still not easy for Audrey to give herself to Tobias, but he’s able to read her expressions and her body language in order to take the steps he needs to claim her as his woman.

Lani Lynn Vale continues to capture my attention with each new biker’s book because along the way, readers have already met the next alpha male, so that insight allows their prior knowledge to come into play and then solidify as Vale develops the characters and their new plot line. What’s also great about continuing a series is that Vale always brings old characters into the current story line, so it’s like they’re catching up with old friends and allowing more into their family circle.

 Excerpt

Peter’s POV

“You will never do this again.” My voice is low and hard as I grip her shoulders and pull back to meet her startled gaze, the fear inside me swamped by fierce determination. “You will not run from me, Sara. Ever. There’s nobody out there who can help you, no place you can hide from me. And if you try this futile stunt again, you’ll regret it—I give you my word on that. You think you know what I’m capable of, but you haven’t even scratched the surface. You have no idea of the lengths I’ll go to, ptichka, no clue what I’m willing to do to have you. You’re mine, and you’re staying mine—now and for as long as we’re both alive.”

I can feel her muscles tensing as I speak, and I know I’m scaring her. It’s not what I want, but I have to keep her from these escape attempts.

I have to keep her safe.

“Peter, please…” Her soft hazel eyes fill with tears as her palms come up to press against my chest. “Don’t do this. This isn’t love. Even you must realize that. I’m sorry for everything you’ve lost, for what George did to your family. And I know—” She swallows, holding my gaze. “I know there’s something between us, something that shouldn’t be there… something that doesn’t make any sense. You feel it, and I feel it too. But that doesn’t make this right. You can’t stalk someone into loving you, can’t intimidate her into caring. For as long as you’re keeping me here, I’m your captive, no matter what you make me say… no matter what you coerce me into. Whether I run or not, I’m not yours—and I never will be. Not like this.”

Every word she speaks is like a knife puncturing my liver. “How then?” My words come out harsh and desperate, violent in their intensity. “Tell me, Sara. How can I have you? What other way can we be together?”

Her gaze mirrors my torment. “We can’t,” she chokes out, her delicate nails scraping over my skin as her hands curl into fists against my chest. “This isn’t meant to be, Peter. We’re not meant to be. Not with the past we share—not with who and what we are.”

“No.” My rejection is visceral, instinctive. “No, you’re wrong.”

Realizing I’m gripping her shoulders with biting force, I release her and step back, then turn away to turn off the water, using the small task to regain some control. Now that I’m no longer freezing, my body is starting to respond to her nakedness, my hunger for her sharp and dark, aggravated by the volatile brew of anger and frustrated longing. If I don’t calm down, I will take her, and I will hurt her.

I will fuck her until she breaks and admits she belongs to me.

She’s crying when I turn back to face her, the tears mixing with the wetness on her cheeks. “Peter, please…” She reaches over to grip my hand, her slender fingers wrapping around my palm imploringly. “Please, just let me go. This isn’t what you want, not really. I can’t be your family. I can’t be their replacement. Can’t you see that? It’s just not meant to be. What you want is not—”

You are what I want.” Tugging my hand out of her hold, I fist it in her hair and wrap my other arm around her waist, molding her against me. She sucks in a sharp breath, her peaked nipples brushing against my chest, and my cock throbs, hard and ready against her silky stomach as I say thickly, “You, Sara, are everything I want. I don’t give a fuck about the past, or what is or isn’t meant to be. We make our own fate—we choose our own destiny—and I chose you. I don’t care if the rest of the world thinks it’s wrong, if I have to fight an army to hold on to you. I found you, I took you, and I’m keeping you—and I’m never going to set you free.”
