Coralie

Twelve years ago, I ran to stay alive.

Port Royal, South Carolina, was my home. I was born there. I fell in love there. And I nearly died there. I never thought I’d go back. Now, after so many years, I have to return to bury the man who made my life a living hell. Some nights, I used to cry myself to sleep, praying my father would die. Other nights were different. Other nights, there was him.

Callan Cross.

My first confidante. My first kiss. My first love. My first everything: Callan was the glue that held me together when everything else was falling apart. He was my savior. He was there for me whenever I needed him…

Until he wasn’t.

Every night, I’ve seen the love of my life in my sleep.

I just never thought I’d have to face him again.

Book Trailer

Meet Callie Hart

callie-hart-bio

Callie has experienced many changes throughout her life, and gone through many ups and downs that have all worked towards shaping and moulding her into the person she is today: fun loving, active, social, and hard working. The only thing that has remained a constant throughout her life is writing. Creating characters who will tear your conscience in two is a favorite pastime of Callie’s. There are few real saints and sinners in her books; more often, the denizens of her stories are all very human. Broken, flawed, and always with the potential for redemption.

Despite the subject matter being markedly hot and heavy in comparison to the stories she wrote in elementary school, there will always be an element of fairytale to her work.

Callie Hart is the author of the Blood & Roses Series. Zeth & Sloane’s story is now complete, but there are a number of stories still to be released under the Blood & Roses banner. 2015 will see Cade, Michael and Rebel’s stories being released, as well as a number of brand new stories, all of which will be Dark Romance novels.

Excerpt

“The video’s gone viral.”

I peered at my assistant, Kiki, from behind my coffee mug. Her dark brown eyes widened, darting nervously between me and her tablet as technicians, gaffers, and interns filtered in through the studio.

“I thought you said yesterday it wasn’t that bad,” I whispered as I forced a smile and waved at Corrine, my make-up artist as she walked in.

“I-I know, and it wasn’t. At first. But I checked again this morning and your video’s had eleven million views over the past twenty-four hours.”

I sucked in a sharp breath. I was used to being in the public eye, having every little move I made scrutinized by strangers who felt entitled to judge me. Ever since the launch of my cooking show, From Ashes, where I showed viewers how to make gourmet meals out of scraps and leftovers, I’d learned that everyone is a critic and those critics are a lot braver behind a computer screen where their fingers do the talking.

“Has Steve seen it yet?”

She bit down on her bottom lip and worried it between her teeth. “I don’t know. His door’s been closed all morning.”

As if on cue, Steve’s door swung open and he stepped out of his office, clapping his hands together. “All right, people, listen up! I’ve got stuff I need to get done, so let’s get this shoot going. Where’s my star of the show?” His eyes roamed around the room until he spotted me. “There she is!” He started moving toward me, but stopped mid-stride when he realized no one was moving because their eyes were glued to their phones. “I said move it, people! I’m not paying you to stand around.”

Everyone immediately jumped into action, bustling around the studio to prepare for my segment. Steve approached me and placed a hand on my shoulder. “Hey Ash, let’s grab lunch after we wrap this up, okay?”

I nodded and smiled brightly at my boss, despite feeling like I was agreeing to walk into the lion’s den.

It took three hours to film the thirty-minute segment, and by the time we finished, I was more than ready to leave. Maybe I was just being paranoid, but I swore every time someone picked up their phone, they were watching me lose my shit on camera. I tried not to think about it. I tried to remain focused. I wanted to believe that it was all in my head. I’d worked with a majority of these people for the past three years; surely that meant they were my friends. But then I remembered I was in Los Angeles, a place where your friends are the ones to push you down a flight of stairs before asking if you need help up.

“You all set?” Steve asked, clapping me on the back.

“Yeah, let me just grab my purse.”

We made our way outside the studio, passing by Sharla, one of the newest interns, on the way. Steve winked at her and she blushed. I smiled politely, pretending to ignore the fact that my forty-two- year-old boss was watching her nineteen-year-old ass walk away.

“Damn,” he mumbled as he pulled out his car keys and unlocked the doors to his brand new Jag. “The things I could do to that ass.”

“I’m going to pretend I didn’t hear that.”

“Probably best. That way you have plausible deniability for my next sexual harassment complaint.”

“I don’t know which is worse, the fact that you’re expecting another complaint, or that even knowing what will happen, you still plan to make a move on her. I’m surprised you even still have a job at this point.”

We slid into the car and bucked our seatbelts. Steve pulled down his sun visor and smiled at his reflection before pulling out of the parking lot. “They’re not going to fire me. I’m the best producer this network’s seen. Besides, Karen and I have a deal. She keeps the execs off my back, and in exchange, I dust off the cobwebs from her pussy a couple times a year. She may not be as young as I’d like, but the things she can do with that mouth—”

“Oh, God, stop,” I groaned, shaking my head. “Let’s just end this conversation before it goes any further. You’re my boss and producer.”

“For a TV show. There’s plenty of sex on TV.”

“Yes, but I talk about cooking. The only thing that ends up naked is the chicken.”

He laughed and merged onto the freeway which was congested with cars. The sky was painted a dusty orange color as thin beams of sunlight attempted to pierce through the smog. Giant billboards loomed off to the side, reminding drivers that physical perfection is just a scalpel and a phone call away, and right beside it was a board with the number to call for when you need to sue because perfection didn’t turn out like you thought it would.

We arrived at my favorite lunch spot, a small Korean BBQ place hidden in the back of a nearly deserted strip-mall. The hostess showed us to a table in the corner and turned the grill on that sat in the center of the table. A few minutes later, our server brought out a tray full of side dishes for us to try alongside slabs of raw meat.

“Ashlynn.” He grabbed a slice of beef and placed it on the grill, using his chopstick to poke at it until it laid flat. “So, the reason I asked you to lunch is because I actually have to talk to you about something.”

I didn’t say anything, already knowing what the “something” was.

“Look, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the network execs saw the video,” he continued. “And now they’re worried about your mental state.”

“My mental state is fine.”

“They’re not convinced. They’re worried that your outburst was just the tip of the iceberg.”

I sighed and rolled a piece of meat with some lettuce. “Steve, you know me. You know I’m not crazy.”

“Yes, but I can’t deny that what I saw was a bit troublesome.”

“I’m not crazy,” I repeated.

“You were running around the hotel lobby, holding a butcher’s knife, threatening to carve his heart out and feed it to the homeless.”

“Yeah, I was pissed. I’m still pissed. When you go out to dinner and find your husband of six years having an affair with your best friend, you’re gonna be pissed.”

Two days before, I’d agreed to meet my friend Staci for dinner at a new hotspot in Santa Monica because the chef and I had gone to culinary school together. We decided to grab ice cream before parting ways, and that’s when I saw it. Right across the street was my husband, Ben, with his tongue shoved down the throat of my best friend. Their hands sloppily grabbed and groped each other, as if they were sixteen-year-old kids, desperate to finish their make-out session before curfew.

He was supposed to be working late at the office.

He was supposed to be loyal.

He was supposed to be mine.

It was a strange sensation feeling betrayal that deep. I’d always imagined that all my emotions would hit at once, sweeping over me like a tidal wave. But it didn’t happen like that. Rather, it started at my feet, as if that’s the only place where shock couldn’t get to quickly enough to numb them. Tiny little pin pricks of agitation, crawling along the nerves, slowly coiling up my ankles, along my calves, wrapping around my knees until they buckled. By then, the shock was beginning to thin, and a solid mass of pain snaked through my intestines, squeezing my stomach with a vice-like grip until I was sure I was going to pass out. The pain curdled as it seeped through my ribs, poisoning my heart until it was black, transforming from pain into something much viler: fury. Anger took my brain hostage, twisting every thought until I was no longer in control of myself. I was simply a marionette, and resentment held the strings.

How dare he.

How dare she.

I stared at my left hand, the gaudy two-carat emerald-cut diamond glinting beneath the bright florescent lights. Mocking me. Taunting me. Ridiculing me until all I wanted to do was rip it off my finger and use it to serrate his heart the way he’d eviscerated mine.

I watched them on the sidewalk for a couple minutes, before they greeted the doorman like an old friend and stepped through the revolving doors of the Larkspur Hotel – a place he’d once told me was too cheesy for someone like me when I’d asked to spend our anniversary there. I realized then that he hadn’t wanted to take me there because it was theirs. He didn’t want to tarnish the memories of his affair with those of his wife.

“He says they’re in love,” I scoffed, taking an angry bite of my food. “Sixteen months, that’s how long this has been going on behind my back, and now he wants a divorce so he can be with her.”

“I’m really sorry, Ash,” Steve said placing his hand over mine. “I know how much they meant to you.”

“Hilary was my maid-of-honor at our wedding. I’ve known her since we were twelve. I was in the Burger King bathroom with her when she got her first period, and I spent an entire weekend watching The Notebook after Ken Carlson dumped her right after she gave him her virginity. We were supposed to get pregnant together and raise our families next door to each other so that our kids could be best friends…We…” My voice cracked and I stopped to let out a shaky breath. Not wanting to risk another viral video, I cleared my throat and took a sip of water. “Sorry.”

“Look, I know you’re going through a rough time, so maybe it’s a good thing that the network wants you to take some time off.”

My eyes cut to his and my whole body stiffened. “I’m sorry?”

His shoulders slumped as he let out a sigh. “The network execs think maybe you need to take some time off the show. You know, just until things settle down.”

“Some time…” I said slowly, letting the bitter taste of each syllable slide off my tongue. “And how long exactly is some time?”

“I’m not sure. They didn’t specify.”

“Are you fucking kidding me with this Steve?”

“I’m afraid not. They’re worried about the bad press.”

“Isn’t that why we have a public relations specialist? Besides, I thought all press was good press.”

“Pretty sure that only works if you’re a washed-up movie star looking for attention. Your show is about bringing families together with food. How do you expect us to keep airing it after this?”

He plucked his phone from his pocket and typed something in before turning it towards me. Images of me standing in the hotel lobby, wielding a large butcher’s knife in my hand popped up. My mocha colored hair was no longer hanging neatly in loose waves, but rather, flying recklessly around my face as my lips pulled back in a snarl. My usually pale green eyes looked wild. Unhinged. Destroyed.

“You can see why the execs are a bit worried,” he continued as he scrolled through various photos.

“Okay, I get it, you can put it away now,” I replied, waving him off. “Isn’t there something you can do? Talk to Karen. Surely you can think of a way to get her to agree to keep me on…”

“Ash—”

“Please,” I begged. “This show is everything to me. I just lost my husband and my best friend, and because we didn’t have a prenup, I’ll probably lose half of everything else I own. Don’t take my show away from me, too.”

He sighed and leaned back in his seat. “Okay. Just sit tight and lay low. I’m not promising anything, but I’ll see what I can do.”

Happy Reading!

He turned and saw Zac talking to Mason, then two guys from the road crew standing nearby stepped aside and that’s when Fizzbo saw him standing by himself over by the coffee and food table. It seemed to happen in slow motion, as if the gathered crowd had purposefully parted and an overhead spotlight suddenly began to shine down like a ray of sunshine from heaven to illuminate the man.

Kensey.

Fizzbo’s breath caught in his throat when Kensy’s eyes collided with his. The beautiful golden man-child with the striking facial features and lean muscled body who had stolen Fizzbo’s sanity and occupied almost all his head space while in Europe was once again standing in the same room as him. Kensey was the only one Fizzbo hadn’t been able to connect with since the fire. It seemed once their names were splashed all over the news as being survivors of the Berlin fire, Kensey had fallen off the face of the earth. Seeing the gorgeous man standing here now, Fizzbo wasn’t sure if he should be more relieved to see him or annoyed Kensey had ignored his phone messages.

It took several seconds, but finally Fizzbo managed to get his feet moving forward. His eyes never left Kensey and with each step that brought them closer, his heart rate increased tenfold. Finally Fizzbo stood in front of Kensey. His eyes hungrily canvassed every inch of Kensey’s face and neck . . . and those luscious lips. Jesus, how he ached for a taste of that mouth. Fizzbo’s eyes finally lifted to Kensey’s. He looked the same – but different. Older perhaps, if that was even possible, since it’d only been a month. Or maybe it was worry and stress that seemed to crease Kensey’s face. And then one detail sliced through his brain.

“You cut your hair,” Fizzbo said in a rush of air.

Kensey’s long fingers quickly went to his shorter style. It was almost buzzed on the sides of his head and longer on the top with hair product in it to keep it tame and voluminous. “I kinda had to cut it after the fire,” Kensey’s soft voice said. “Don’t you remember? It was all singed on the ends from the fire. The only way to fix that mess was to have it cut off. It’ll grow back soon enough.”

“I like it short,” Fizzbo said, and damn if his fingers didn’t itch to touch the new, shorter length. “Your face is too . . . perfect, to keep it hidden behind long hair.” Kensey blushed from the compliment and that made Fizzbo smile.

“I thought you were about to call me pretty,” Kensey’s smooth voice was like a caress.

“Well, if the shoe fits . . . ”

“Don’t say it,” Kensey grinned.

“No?” Fizzbo countered. “Definitely not.”

Fizzbo liked knowing he could get the color to rise in Kensey’s face. He wondered if he’d be able to get other things to rise on Kensey, but tamped down that thought when he felt his own body begin to react to the very same thought. All these weeks after they’d met in Europe during the tour and Fizzbo was still walking around with a major hard-on for the guy. If the fire hadn’t happened when it did, he’d planned on asking Kensey out for a drink after one of their shows, but life has a way of changing plans like that. Now Fizzbo felt like he was starting all over again with trying to get to know this majestic man.

Zac’s Mulligan (Guarding the Gods #1)

ⓑⓛⓤⓡⓑ

Zac Mulligan is a former Marine now providing personal security for the infamous rock band, Black Ice. Seeing all the guys around him in committed relationships reminds him of his childhood best friend . . . the only person Zac has never managed to get out of his head or his heart.

Ben Holland is an artist. Falling deeply in love with his best friend in his teens, Ben is left alone when Zac leaves him for the military. Ben heads off to college and lives his life “out and proud” as a gay man and creates a brand name for himself with his artwork. Throughout all the years that pass, Ben never forgets his childhood friend, Zac, or the feelings they once shared.

Zac realizes a decade is too long for Ben not to have a presence in his life and finds Ben living on Cape Cod where they spent their summers as kids. Meeting each other as adults stirs up a lot of memories for both of them.

Zac is looking for a mulligan, a “do over,” with his childhood best friend. The question is: Can Ben find a way to put aside his old hurts and fully open his heart to Zac for a second time? Or maybe the past is something better left buried on the beach where it all began.

As I started contemplating Reagan, Trey, and Ethan’s relationship as well as Reagan’s place in Exodus End and the inability for Ethan to express his love for Reagan and Trey to the outside world, it amazed me how much of an outsider these three are…what’s even more interesting to me is the fact that not only are they “outside the norm” of society’s view on relationships, but each of them individually feels as though s/he is on the outside looking in based on personalities, beliefs, families, and those who want to witness all three of them fail.

Publicly, Reagan’s the one who’s portrayed, not so much as an outsider, but more like an interloper, a cheater, and a whore, which definitely plays into her relationship with not only Trey and Ethan but also with her band mates. Reagan’s painstakingly tried to fit in with the world that she won a ticket into, but it’s not easy being considered the replacement…the temporary guitarist for one of the most successful metal bands around, and her fears and her jealousy, at times, consume her and make her feel like she’s not enough…that she’ll always be on the outside looking in when it comes to a music career and a relationship that the public doesn’t see as abnormal or illicit.

Out of the three lovers, Trey is the one who doesn’t care if the outside world doesn’t agree with their polyamorous relationship. He’s always been extraordinary when it comes to being himself and allowing the world to see him as they want to because it’s not going to change his free of himself regardless of how much society and the paparazzi tries to attack him. But where he’s the odd man out is with his desire to broadcast his love for both Reagan and Ethan to anyone who wants to know. He wants to open their reality to the outside world and not give a damn with the fallout because it’s not going to stop him from being with the two people he loves most. Reagan and Ethan aren’t willing to let the outside world in, though, because there’s too much to lose when it comes to their families, and even though Trey’s fine with being seen as abnormal, Reagan and Ethan aren’t there yet, which is a point of contention for the trio.

In my estimation, Ethan is the one who has every right to feel like an outsider in his relationship with Reagan and Trey, his job, and his family because, to the world, he’s simply Reagan’s bodyguard and her ex as well as the one who the public believes Reagan is cheating on Trey with, which couldn’t be further from the truth, but Ethan’s not willing to expose his own secrets just yet. Ethan has to always maintain a distance with Reagan and Trey even when he wants to wrap them both in his arms and shower them with affection, which is a huge issue for him. Outside opinions shouldn’t matter, but they do, and because Ethan feels that his family wouldn’t approve of his choices, he’s less apt to broadcast his love for both a man and a woman to the public.

Reagan, Trey, and Ethan’s story is a testament to what public opinion can do to relationships that are in the public eye, especially ones that are deemed inappropriate. But what the book also teaches is that the heart wants what the heart wants and no one should be able to question the gift of love, but as much as the outside world shouldn’t factor into a loving relationship, it does, and it’s up to those people involved in what society deems as corrupt to prove to themselves and the world that they are free to be with who they want and live the kind of life they want, telling anyone who doesn’t agree to go to hell!

I’m a huge Olivia Cunning and Sinners On Tour fan, and I love that readers still get to catch up with their favorite band mates while being introduced to new ones. Exodus End is a great series so far and with every member, hopefully, getting his own story, there’s a good chance we’ll continue to catch up with our favorites and become fan girls for Steve, Max, and Dare – btw I totally call dibs on Dare;)

I admit that I did skim portions of the story because it sounded slightly repetitive in terms of the trio’s issues with the public and their own insecurities given the circumstances they’re dealing with…I do understand why Cunning takes readers into all three main characters’ psyches on numerous occasions and the fact that things would be up and down as well as quite tenuous for periods of the story based on the situation, but some of it felt over explained and a bit unresolved. Regardless of that concern, though, Cunning definitely allows her readers to completely understand Reagan, Trey, and Ethan’s personal struggles from all sides, which makes their relationship even more extraordinary because it takes a large amount of faith and trust to endure what this trio do and despite the concerns, they’re hellbent on reveling in each other forever.

Excerpt

“Use your safewords if you need them, Kenna.”

Griffin hesitated only one more second.

And then he was on her. His mouth on hers. His tongue sinking deep. His hands in her soft blond waves. The moan she unleashed shot straight to his cock and made him want to wring every moan he’d missed these five long years out of her beautiful, curvy body.

“Put your arms around my neck,” he said. When she did, he cupped her ass in his hands and pushed off the couch. “Hang on, little one.”

He made for the adjacent door to the play room, but, good as it was, that one kiss hadn’t been nearly enough. Not when he was absofuckinglutely starving.

Pinning her to the wall, he dove back in again. Kissing, claiming, devouring. He ground himself against her pussy, the strangled cry she released around his tongue making his balls heavy and full. “I’m not sure you realize what you’re getting into with me, Kenna. Because I’ve missed the hell out of making you come.”

“Oh, God,” she rasped.

“God can’t save you. Not from me. Not tonight.”

He swung open the door, the motion-activated lights coming on as they moved into the play room. Others occasionally used this space, but he used it most. He’d designed and installed the furniture, suspension hooks and shackles, and pulley systems in the room for all different kinds of bondage play, and he’d outfitted the storage cabinets with every possible implement he’d need, too.

And he had just the thing in mind, for tonight.

“Feet down,” he said.

The way she slid down him nearly drove him insane, and then he stepped back and considered her body suit. It was so fucking sexy that he hated to ruin it, but PVC was a bitch to get on and off.

“I fucking love and hate that body suit right now,” he said, planting a stern expression on his face.

Amusement flashed across her eyes. “Sorry, Sir,” she said, not sounding sorry at all.

A thought came to mind and he retrieved a roll of red Kinesio tape from a cabinet. Tearing a length off he said, “I’m going to allow you the suit. This time. But I need you to tell me where the prosthesis ends and your arm begins. Can you do that for me?”

“Yes,” she said, lifting her arm as he moved in. “The stump extends about two inches below my elbow.”

“Here?” He held the tape over the black of her suit. When she nodded, he gently applied the red marking around her forearm. “Once we start, you have carte blanche—for tonight—to speak. I want you vocal. I want you telling me how I’m making you feel.” He nailed her with a stare. “Don’t let me hurt you. Don’t even let me get close.”

“I won’t, Master Griffin. I can handle this.”

“I doubt don’t it, Kenna, but I will cut the scene if I have even an inkling that I’m causing unintentional pain that you’re not owning up to.” He arched a brow. “Are we clear?” She gave a fast nod. “Good. Then spread your feet and put your hands at your side. Now.”

Her ready compliance fucking slayed him. After all this time, it really did.

“Mmm. Very good. Now, don’t move a muscle unless I tell you to. Because the scene begins right now.”

Genre: Contemporary Romance

chandler-final

Synopsis

I’m good in a boardroom, but I’m better in the bedroom. Much better. I can charm the skirt off any woman in one encounter. I’ll even give her an orgasm before I put her in a cab. Or three. No more or she’ll start making plans for the future and I’m not into that.

Or I wasn’t until Genevive Fasbender. She’s the first woman in five years that I want to spend the whole night with. And she’s the first woman who’s told me I’m not what she wants in a lover, even after multiple O’s. She’s brash and bold and stubborn as hell, and she doesn’t believe it’s possible to satisfy her.

But I’m up for the challenge.

And after an incident in my brother’s office closet―a downright dirty incident―I think I’m just the guy to deliver.

Genevive Fasbender will never know what’s coming.

Review

Hudson Pierce is my number 1 book boyfriend, so I could not wait to re-enter his world and learn about his sexy younger brother, Chandler. I wasn’t sure what to expect from the youngest of the Pierce siblings because readers only caught glimpses of him throughout the Fixed Trilogy, but I soon learned that Chandler is a guy who loves women and who feels quite highly of his “great dick of amaziness.” It was also clear early on that his family as well as those around him, don’t truly SEE Chandler for everything that he is. Of course, people see the rich playboy…a guy who seems to be unable to keep his dick in his pants long enough to do a little work for Pierce Industries, but that’s where people’s perceptions end, even Hudson doesn’t truly understand that Chandler is more than capable of taking on a bigger role in the company, ultimately taking off some of the pressure that’s on his older brother whose life now revolves more around Alyana and their children.

It’s easy for Chandler to play the role that so many people expect from him, and, for the most part, he doesn’t mind the fact that others doubt his intelligence and business skills, but there’s one place Chandler refuses to believe he’s average or less than and that’s in the bedroom – or any room for that matter where he can get a willing woman beneath him and be the giver that he is as well as get his own in the process.

So when Genevieve Fasbender isn’t panting in ecstasy after their one night together, Chandler breaks all of his rules and becomes a dominating, bossy seducer, shedding his “nice guy” demeanor and giving both he and Genny exactly what they seem to need from each other, and even though they seem completely wrong for one another and risk a great deal in being more than a one-night stand, Chandler’s a Pierce, and he doesn’t let go of something or someone that he wants regardless of how much Genny throws him off his game and changes the dynamics of his entire life.

I love the fact that Laurelin Paige allows readers inside Chandler’s head and takes us with him as he sets out to prove himself, not only to Genny but Hudson as well. Chandler’s internal musings and outlandish diatribes about those around him illustrates exactly who Chandler is at his core and why he allowed everyone to underestimate him until he finally finds the one person who allows him to truly be himself, even if he doesn’t know that side of himself yet either.

Paige captures the intense connection that’s between Chandler and Genny by playing up the sexual tension that surrounds them and by their constant barbs at one another that leaves them sexually frustrated until Chandler finds a way to work the stubbornness out of her.

Chandler and Genny’s story is a fantastic addition to The Fixed series; it’s sexy, humorous, and quite surprising, which makes it a must read!

Plus anytime readers can reconnect with Hudson Pierce, it’s always a good time;)

Excerpt

Five minutes later, the valet pulls up with my car. Genevieve raises an eyebrow. “A Bugatti?”

I’m so impressed she can name the model that I practically jizz in my pants. “It’s the best.”

She shakes her head, and I swear I hear her mutter something about rich men and their toys, but I don’t respond, too occupied with inspecting my car and then passing the attendant the cash I promised him earlier for returning my vehicle in perfect condition.

I slide into the driver’s seat, and when I look over at Genevieve as she buckles her seatbelt, a wave of pure, unadulterated lust rolls through me. I’m very aware that I’ve trapped her, that she’s now defenseless to my whims. Not that I’d take advantage, but goddamn, to think that I could…

I nearly shiver at my own vile thoughts.

Glad she can’t know what I’m thinking, I flash her a smile. “So. Where am I taking you?”

“I’m staying at the Park Hyatt on 57th Street.”

“Fancy.” The Park Hyatt is one of the nicest luxury hotels in New York. That means this girl has money, which isn’t a bad thing. Just, the swell of my wallet in my back pocket is usually one of my better attributes. If wealth doesn’t attract her, I hope I’m not shit out of luck when it comes to getting an invitation up to her room.

Apparently, I’m transparent because she asks, “Not impressed?”

“Quite the opposite. I’m worried you won’t have a reason to be impressed with me.” Now I’m the one who can’t believe how honest I’m being.

“It’s a valid worry,” she says after a beat, and I can’t tell if she’s teasing or being blunt. Can’t tell if I should prepare for gut-wrenching disappointment or dive into another round of sexy banter.

I concentrate on my driving instead, speeding up before slipping expertly into a tight opening in the adjacent lane.

I’ll admit I’m showing off.

“Smashing,” she says with a tone that vibrates through my body like I’m a tuning fork.

Then, abruptly, she laughs, and I turn my head toward her, alarmed at the source of her amusement.

“I still can’t believe you drive a Bugatti in the city. I can’t decide if that makes you brilliant or as mad as a bag of ferrets.”

“Brilliant, of course.” Though, with her so close, I feel more like I’m going crazy. “What can I say? I like things that are fast.”

“Of course you do.”

“You don’t?” I raise a questioning brow. “Maybe you don’t understand how awesome fast can be.” I put my foot on the gas and race down the next block to prove my point.

The traffic light turns red as I approach the intersection, and I ease the brakes. “See? Fast is fun.”

“The problem with fast is it’s over too quickly.”

Is that innuendo? Her gaze pierces into me, and the air around us feels tight and charged, and I’m suddenly certain that I will die if I don’t get to taste her tonight.

Even if she didn’t mean anything more when she made her statement, I certainly do when I say, “Don’t worry. I know when to take my time.”

She exhales, slowly, and I swear I can feel it. As though she’s already in my arms and her breath is grazing every inch of my bare skin. No matter what happens after this, I know she at least feels this…this attraction. Or whatever it is.

Her voice is low and sultry when she replies. “You’re not talking about cars anymore. But do you really take your time? I’d guess you bolt the minute you’re finished.” She’s so blunt, so direct, and I don’t know if it’s a her thing or an English thing, but I like it.

I also like this conversation we’re having. Because we’re drawing the lines, and that means the potential for tonight is high. So I answer with a nod, making sure she understands that she’s correct in thinking I’ll bolt. Because I will.
