Synopsis

All of us live with a demon inside. Some days, you control the demon. And other days, it controls you. But the one thing that never changes is that it’s always hungry. It feeds on lust and longing. You may slumber, but the demon never sleeps. It tempts you into crossing every line you’ve ever drawn, and all the while, it tests you, haunts you. And once it has turned your loved ones into enemies, the demon has consumed you whole. ~Jordana

Jordana Albanese grew up in a world that spun with lies, secrets, and multiple sins. Her father, Gene—reigning king in the Mafia for the last few decades—never protected her from his underworld dealings (La Coso Nostra). She learned at a young age that in order to survive in her world, one must be dominant. She wore the shield of control on a daily basis, but all she wanted was to slip it off and discard it like yesterday’s laundry. Except, letting it go would mean letting it all go. And she didn’t want that. She learned of a compromise—to let go of control in private, behind a closed door, with the orders of him. Not simply to be controlled, but to be dominated. The only problem was that her ambitions cut bone deep. Deeper than her Dom’s belt on her ass. Deeper than the marks from the restraints he used to subdue and pleasure her. The enduring marks were not visible to the human eye. They were profound wounds—scars—on her soul that only she could feel.
And that’s where she found the perfect balance in the two. Her submissive tendencies served her well in the bedroom. However, in public, she was very much as dominant as her male counterparts.

b72ee-review

In order for women to wield power, they need to be able to use all of their assets, wearing a mask of control, devoid of emotions, because anything that makes them look inferior will be used against them and define them as weak, forcing them to submit to men in all aspects of their lives.

Jordana Albanese, a Mafia princess, refuses to be perceived as someone who will bend to any man’s whim/order. She learned early on how to survive the dark world she was born into by showing no weakness and shielding herself from being taken advantage of by anyone who sees her as a puppet to be controlled. But what no one knows about Jordana, except HIM, is that in order to deal with the chaos of her world, she needs to be able to let go in a way that allows her to feel the freedom of submission by being dominated by a man she trusts not only with her body but also with her heart, regardless of how their relationship started.

At the heart of The Power of a Woman is the love story that develops between two people who are not supposed to be together due to the bad blood between their families. But Gina Whitney and Leddy Harper craft their story in such a way that it cannot be denied how much Jordana and Stefan help each other to do more than simply exist in the dark and dangerous world of the Mafia. Jordana is Stefan’s treasure and he will do anything to protect her, even from herself. I loved how Whitney and Harper transform Stefan’s character as his feelings for Jordana intensify; the difference between his actions at the beginning of the story and then as the plan started coming together allows readers to see his true feelings and why he always needed to stay in control. Nothing Stefan did was without recognition of what Jordana needed and that is clearly demonstrated in all of his actions, even the ones she doesn’t know or understand.

But The Power of a Woman is so much more than simply a love story; it’s about a woman wielding power in a world that could easily destroy her; it’s about her struggle to not lose her confidence and self-worth when she’s faced with circumstances that are out of her control. It’s about trust – in oneself and the man who gives her what she desperately craves. And all of these ideas are clearly demonstrated in a seamless story that will have readers terrified, excited, and definitely hot and bothered.

Gina Whitney is definitely one of my go to authors, so I knew I would thoroughly enjoy Jordana and Stefan’s story, but adding in Leddy Harper’s lightness to Whitney’s darkness adds another dimension to the story telling, allowing the complexity of the characters and story line to maintain a rich blend of shadows and brightness, making it a fantastic reading experience.

A complimentary copy was provided in exchange for an honest review.

Leddy

Leddy Harper had to use her imagination often as a child. She grew up the only girl in a house full of boys. At the age of fourteen, she decided to use that imagination and wrote her first book, and never stopped.

She often calls writing her therapy, using it as a way to deal with issues through the eyes of her characters.

She is now a mother of three girls, leaving her husband as the only man in a house full of females.

The decision to publish her first book was made as a way of showing her children to go after whatever it is they want to. Love what you do and do it well. Most importantly Leddy wanted to teach them what it means to overcome their fears.

Blurb

There are fairy tales, you know the ones, which end in happily ever after. Where the princess rides off into the sunset safely pinned to a majestic white horse by her gallant knight. Yes, there are fairy tales.

And then there’s us.

New York is my fresh start, my third in as many years. A fresh start; with no assholes in my near future. That’s right, you guessed it, two in as many years, assholes that left me with a very strict aversion to romance.

Then I met a guy, a guy who would force me to stay, not to run. A guy who I first encountered fucking someone else in a hallway. He was everything I wanted, and everything I didn’t. He was beautiful, and beautifully frightening. And I was the princess that would mend his scars, erase them one by one, until he was whole again. Or so I thought.

Yes, ours is a fairy tale, but not one that you might expect…

Prologue

I turn the corner, my eyes adjusting to the dim light, trying to navigate my way through the thin, damp smelling corridors.

A figure turns the corner, an unfamiliar face. A beautiful stranger.

The sight before me causes me to stop dead in my tracks.

She stops dead in her tracks when she sees us, me and my latest conquest. I have my conquest by the thighs, propped up against the wall, diving into her. Fucking her to within an inch of her life. At least I was, until the girl came into my peripheral vision.

At the end of the corridor are a couple, a guy and a girl. Her skirt is hitched up around her waist. At first glance, I think he may be kissing her, hard. Until I see the penetration. Until I see the way he grips her thighs, pulling her body against his. The strong and purposeful thrusts. Her back slamming relentlessly against the wall, like a rag doll.

I expect her to turn, to run in the opposite direction. What I didn’t expect, from my vantage point and the corner of my eye, was to see her planted to the spot, watching. Curiosity and embarrassment warred inside her, I could tell by the way she shifted nervously from foot to foot. Curiosity won out. She didn’t turn away.

I should have turned, walked away, done fucking something. But I was transfixed. I was invading their intimate moment, albeit out in the open for everyone to bear witness to. But I’m rooted to my spot. Watching. Coveting.

I don’t want her to know that I see her. I like her there. Watching me. My sexual partner hasn’t noticed our guest. She’s too caught up in her own self-satisfaction to even open her eyes. But the girl’s eyes don’t look at her. They stare directly at me. Undressing me. I can practically taste her lust. A satisfied smile causes the right side of my lip to creep up.

The guy’s mouth curls up in a smile. I can see it from my vantage point. I thought he hadn’t noticed me, but I think he has. A furious blush descends over my whole body, rising to my cheeks. For a brief moment, I close my eyes and replace that random girl’s body with my own. Blessed warmth courses through me as the fantasy unfolds in my mind.

Magnificent heat courses through my body. The rushing blood and adrenaline produced by my body is making a beeline for my dick, rendering it rock solid. I close my eyes and imagine that girl, that stranger, in the place of whatshername, the girl currently riding against me. The fantasy easily plays out in my mind.

He thrusts with finality into the girl, shaking the wall behind her in the process. Probably shaking her to the very core. She lets out a strangled cry. Just before he has a chance to look up, I turn and bolt back into the bar.

Just as I come, I glance to the left, to see if the voyeur girl is still there. She isn’t. I hope she’s a regular at this bar. I want the chance to show her firsthand the skills that she just bore witness to.

I’m more than certain he saw me. My heart is racing, threatening to pound free from my chest. Rock solid muscles and an imposing stature, I watched with wanton lust as he owned her. And God help me if I didn’t allow my mind to conjure up fantasies of the ownership he could have over my body. In that moment, I wanted it. I was exposed.

I liked her there. The heavens couldn’t have orchestrated a more perfect scenario. My mind proceeded to fuck her in a hundred different ways. I was left vulnerable, aching for a taste of her, craving her desperately. It made me feel…exposed.

COVER REVEAL, EXCERPT, AND GIVEAWAY: Whiskey Neat (Uncertain Saint’s MC #1) by Lani Lynn Vale

Title: Whiskey Neat
Series: Uncertain Saint’s MC
Author: Lani Lynn Vale
Genre: MC Romance
Release Date: March 3, 2016
Photographer: Furious Fotog
Cover Model: Chase Ketron

Griffin Storm wasn’t prone to violence, but when someone takes what Griffin holds dear, the world as he knows it is gone.

Retaliation, revenge and rage fuels him.  His MC, The Uncertain Saint’s, do their best to offer support, but Griffin is beyond redemption.  He’ll do what he has to do.  Kill who he has to kill.

He doesn’t care if that means he dies.  If it gets him what he wants, then it’s worth it.

He fakes it all until the night he walks into a sex shop for batteries and lays eyes on a woman that will change his life.

Lenore makes him think past tomorrow.  Makes him want to see just what the future might bring.

But his life’s a dangerous one built around pain and deception, and not for the faint of heart.

He won’t give up the past, not until he’s done what he promised to do.

And if that means she’s not there when the dust settles, he’ll risk it.

Lenore, though, won’t give up on him.  She’ll fix him, whether he wants her to or not.

“I’m not going to hurt you,” Griffin growled, interrupting my inner diatribe.
“I know,” I lied.
He snorted. “Stop shaking. I said I wouldn’t harm you. I’m a cop.”
Yeah, but good cops didn’t beat the shit out of people in the dark of night.
So what did that make him?
“Keys,” Griffin said, snapping me out of my reverie.
I did not want to give this man the keys.
But did I have much of a choice?
No.
So I gave the man my keys, and watched in agony as he walked into my house, looked through all my rooms, then started into my bedroom last.
I probably wouldn’t have freaked out the way I did had I realized he was only going to be more persistent in going into my room, but I did freak out.
Then he got a curious look in his eye.
“Don’t go in there!” I yelled when he started to push my bedroom door open.
He cocked his head. “Why not?”
Because the vibrator you gave to me is on my nightstand…next to my lube!
Instead, I settled on, “Because that’s my room! Get out!”
He grinned.
It was the first grin I’d ever seen grace his lips, and I knew I’d do anything to see it again.
Even humiliate myself by letting him go into my room and see my greatest embarrassment yet.
And I knew the instant he saw it once he turned on the light.
His body froze, spine going solid.
And although he went through the room, even checking under the bed, he stopped by the night stand and picked up the vibrator that’d very recently been inside of me.
Then, with dawning horror, he brought it up to his nose and inhaled deeply.
My mouth dropped open at the way his eyes darkened.
Mother. Fucker.
Then, without another word, he placed the vibrator down gently on the nightstand and left, disappearing into the night.
Leaving me with a proverbial flood going on in my panties as arousal shot through me at the way he’d knowingly smelled the vibrator.
Sweet baby Jesus, that was hot!
So very, very hot.
And so very, very bad.
My mind was torn in between wanting him to come back, and to stay far, far away.
I did, however, go out onto my front porch to look down the street.
However, when I got in place to look without being seen, every single one of them was gone.
I’m a married mother of three. My kids are all under 5, so I can assure you that they are a handful. I’ve been with my paramedic husband now for ten years, and we’ve produced three offspring that are nothing like us. I live in the greatest state in the world, Texas.

The Queen B* And the Homecoming King by Crista McHugh

Date of Publication: December 1, 2015

Blurb

The Queen B*, Alexis Wyndham, has only three rules when it comes to dating that star quarterback, Brett Pederson:

  1. No obligations to spend every waking moment with each other.
  2. No public displays of affection while at Eastline High.
  3. And absolutely, under no circumstances, will she ever go to the Homecoming dance.

But as her life is completely upended time and time again, she begins to wonder if some rules are meant to be broken.

Excerpt

I’d never greeted a Monday morning with dozens of giddy butterflies in my stomach. Usually, I reserved my most dramatic sighs and biting comments for Mondays because—let’s face it—they suck. But this Monday morning was different.

I, Alexis Wyndham, was officially Brett Pederson’s girlfriend.

But I still wasn’t ready to announce that to the world.

As we floated in a canoe among the water lilies in Lake Washington yesterday, I lay down a few ground rules to help me ease into this unprecedented (and unimaginable) situation. After all, it’s not every day the Queen B* and the Quarterback become a couple. Dropping that bomb on our classmates could cause a rift in the space-time continuum.

Or at least cause my nemesis, Summer Hoyt, to have one very public and dramatic meltdown.

Rule number one: I refused to be one of those disgustingly cute couples that were joined at the hip between classes. We were dating, not merging our lives and identities into a single life-form. Brett had his group of friends and I had mine, and until recently, they never intertwined because I despised most of the in-crowd. If I hadn’t gotten to know the real Brett during a class project, I would’ve continued to write him off as a dumb jock.

Lesson learned, but still…

Rule number two: no public displays of affection at school. Not that I had any problem with PDAs with Brett. I liked kissing him. But I also had been known to lose control when I was with him…and lose articles of clothing. And after having that awkward run-in with my mom and her boyfriend’s PDA on our living room couch last week, I’d rather not make a spectacle of myself in front of everyone. It opened up the doors to ridicule.

Rule number three: I wouldn’t go to Homecoming with Brett. I’d made it this far through high school without plunging into that cheesy sea of balloons and crepe paper while wearing a silly sequin-laden dress, and I wasn’t going to cross that line during my senior year.

And what’s more chilling than the voicemail: it turns out that Amber has gone missing.

Determined to track down her friend, Emily follows a chain of clues that lead her to the enigmatic billionaire Reeve Sallis, a hotelier known for his shady dealings and play boy reputation. Now, in order to find Amber, Emily must seduce Reeve to learn his secrets and discover the whereabouts of her friend. But as she finds herself more entangled with him, she finds she’s drawn to Reeve for more than just his connection to Amber, despite her growing fear that he may be the enemy. When she’s forced to choose where her loyalty lies, how will she decide between saving Amber and saving her heart?

Excerpt

“I hope you’re nice and relaxed, Emily. Because we need to have a chat.”

Apprehension fluttered in my belly. Chatting was definitely not the direction I wanted to go in from here. Whatever he had to say, I couldn’t possibly listen. I was too agitated.

But without him spelling it out, I knew that was the terms of this arrangement. He’d touch me—in his way. And I’d listen, whether I wanted to or not.

So I propped myself up again and gave him as much of my attention as I could.

“It’s interesting,” he said, his thumbs doing that amazing thing on the bottom of my foot, “how people respond to you when they believe you’ve gotten away with murder.”

My stomach dropped. No speech that started with murder had a happy ending.

“Most people are frightened of you,” he said as his hand stroked up my shin. “They pull their business. They stop attending your events. They certainly won’t let themselves be seen with you. It’s not really anything to fret over, losing those connections. You don’t want cowards in your court. Good riddance to them.”

“I’m not a coward,” I managed to say defensively. Though I wasn’t sure why I was defending myself. Or why I was anxious that he might mean good riddance to me when that was probably exactly what I should be wishing he meant.

He glanced up at me, amusement in his features. “No, you’re not. You’re not scared. Or you’re not scared enough.”

I barely fought the shiver that begged to stutter through my body. It was a menacing statement, and I wanted to deny it as well. Tell him that I was definitely scared enough. But what the hell did that mean, anyway? Considering how turned on I was despite everything I’d learned about him, still turned on despite the foreboding in his tone, well, maybe he had a point. I really wasn’t scared enough.

The amusement transformed to what looked more like awe. Then his attention fell back to my leg and I couldn’t see his face well enough to read him. But after he pushed my ankle back so that my knee bent, his touch changed. A single finger traced the line of my inner thigh. Softly. Sweetly. Just as he got to where I so wanted him to go, he abruptly stopped. One second passed. Two.

Then he resumed the firm pressure from before, reclaiming his restraint. For now.

I could wait.

His speech continued, his voice firm, icy. “There are other people, too. Those that respect you. They aren’t necessarily your friends, because they’re also scared—probably even more so than those who keep their distance. They continue their financial support of your endeavors. They invite you to their parties. Their children’s weddings. They look out for you. Because, you see, they’re afraid that if they don’t…well.”

My heart hammered in my ears. Suddenly I was feeling vulnerable in a way that had nothing to do with my nudity and all to do with the frailty of my size compared to the strength of his.

As if to prove that point, Reeve increased the pressure of his kneading, digging his fingers into the flesh of my thigh with a bite that sang and stung. “It’s a very intense form of power, actually. Much like having money. I’m sure you’ve gotten a taste of that with the recent success of your show. Imagine that but multiplied by a billion.”

“Mm hmm,” I said, a response that served as an answer though it was mostly an involuntary reaction to his hands. He’d reached the top of my limb again. Like before, the tips of his fingers brushed against my folds.

Goddammit, I was wet. And trembling. And overwrought with anticipation. This time, would he let his touch wander farther up? In?

His hands left me. He pushed my leg down, pulled the sheet back over my leg and pinned me with narrowed eyes. “It’s also not unlike the power of being a very attractive person. Another privilege that you understand.” He scanned the length of my body, the sheet still a barrier between us, and let out an audible breath. “I imagine you must understand it very well indeed.”

It was an accusation. The grit in his voice and the weight of his stare said so. Fucker. Whatever hopes I’d had for this whole scene of his, it was clear now that his intent was not friendly. Punishing, more like. I still wasn’t sure for what exactly. For being in his pool. For using my beauty to draw his interest. For coming onto him without his permission. I’d thought his humiliating body search had been all the reprimand I was getting. Guess I’d been wrong.

My eyes fell. However, a glance at his crotch gave me the slightest smidgeon of satisfaction. He was unmistakably hard. He might be punishing me, but he was punishing himself too.

Excerpt

Meagan’s eyes sparkled as a wide grin spread across her face. “You have feelings for me, Gray?”

I opened the door and pushed her in as I backed her up against the wall. Keep it simple, Gray. This is not about sex.

My eyes lingered on her lips before I searched her face. Each breath looked as if it was a labored action on her part. “Really, Meg? You can’t feel it when I kiss you?”

Meagan’s mouth parted open as I moved closer to her. Our lips were inches apart from one another.

“Gray,” she barely spoke as I placed my hand on the side of her face and gently rubbed my thumb across her lips. Son-of-a-bitch, touching her was one of my favorite things to do.

“It’s just a kiss.”

With trembling lips, she replied, “It’s dangerous.”

Excerpt

At first she doesn’t even know I’m there, and I have the pleasure of seeing her lying back, her eyes closed, one leg bent up and peeking out from the bubbles. And damn those fucking bubbles, they’re covering everything else.

The universe is doing everything it can to prevent me from seeing my wife naked. I would laugh at that fact if it didn’t bug me so damn much. I’m pretty sure karma is slapping me in the face for insulting her so many times, and karma is a bitch who has no fucks to give about my blue balls.

Her eyes suddenly snap open and she jumps when she sees me, water splashing around her.

“Tally, you scared the shit out of me. Why are you creeping around?” She crosses her arms over her chest and a few bubbles float up in the air. I love that my childhood nickname just slipped out of her mouth without her even realizing it. It sounded so intimate on her lips that I want to hear her say it again and again.

“I wasn’t creeping; I just walked in. Should I wear a bell around my neck like the Princess?” I lean against the doorframe and gaze at her in the candlelight, her skin dewy from the moist heat, and I can’t understand why she doesn’t want me in that tub with her.

“What are you doing in here?”

I cross the room and kneel down next to the tub, taking in the way her eyes shift to my naked chest.

“I wanted to see your bath bomb in action.” My eyes travel languidly down the length of her in the tub and catch glimpses of pink water under the bubbles.

“This one is actually a bubble bomb. See the bubbles?” She lifts her hand and blows the bubbles up over my head.

I grab her hand and bring it to my lips. “I see that. Pink water, too. Very pretty.” I close my eyes as I kiss her hand, tasting the sweet water on her. “What flavor are you tonight? It’s yummy.”

She swallows and I can feel her hand trembling ever so slightly in mine. “It’s cotton candy.”

I nod my approval. “I like it. A lot.”

She shifts in the water, lowering the leg that was up and raising the other, giving me a quick glimpse of her thigh as she does so.

“Do you think about me when you’re in here?” I ask her, releasing her hand so I can dip my fingers into the warm water.

“I think about you all the time.”

My heart does a funny lurch I’m pretty sure it ain’t never done before. “Well, that’s just about the best thing I’ve ever heard.”

I let my hand slide farther into the water until it’s gliding over her outer thigh under the bubbles. “The water feels slippery,” I comment. “So does your skin.”

“It’s from the oils.”

Stretching my other arm out along the edge of the tub, I lean toward her face. “I like how it feels. I should be in there with you, all slippery and wet.”

“You’re too big,” she murmurs, locking her eyes on to mine.

Laughing, I kiss her vanilla flavored lips. “I’m gonna ignore that big comment, baby.”

She smiles against my mouth. “You’re so bad.”

“I know… So, I’m going to have to do this the hard way, then. Since I can’t get in there.” I slide my hand farther down her leg, over her knee to her calf, squeezing gently.

“Do what?”

“Give you your first orgasm.”

A small gasp of surprise comes out of her, and a seductive little grin graces her lips. “Sorry to disappoint you, but I’ve had orgasms before.”

“Not from me.” I rub my nose along hers, feeling her breath against my face. “And that’s gonna change right now, Mrs. Valentine.”

I cup the back of her head with one hand and press my mouth to hers, licking her lips while slowly dragging my other hand up the inside of her leg beneath the water to finally brush my fingers gently across her lower lips. I silently curse the water for not letting me feel her wetness.

Her mouth opens to mine and I delve my tongue inside, tasting the heat of her breath and catching the sweet moan she lets out when I push my finger into her warmth. Her thighs part and her hand comes up out of the water to caress my cheek as I let my hand own her, my thumb rubbing her pulsing clit while I slip my fingers in and out of her. My cock throbs like mad in my shorts, begging to get into her. Holy fuck, is she tight.Three years of no sex is very, very good.

Her thighs squeeze my hand and she grasps the side of my neck, her breath panting against my mouth, and I know she’s there already. I really want to drag this out, tease her and make her crazy, but that seems cruel right now when she’s writhing her hot little core all over my hand and devouring my lips. I like little horny Asia. A lot.

I want to pull her out of the tub and take her right here on the floor and put an end to this madness, but I’m hell-bent on sticking to my promise to her, even if my dick hates me.

Her walls clench and drench around my swirling fingers up inside her, while the rest of her body arches up, pressing against me, her muscles tightening and quivering. I kiss her softly as she recovers from the first of many sexual escapades I have planned for her now that the doors have been opened, so to speak.

“Who’s my girl?” I whisper against her ear, moving my hand up to caress her stomach.

“Me,” she answers breathlessly

“That’s right.”

My girl. The last thing I thought I would ever want, and now, all I could ever want.
