Author Bio:

Mandi Beck has been an avid reader all of her life. A deep love for books always had her jotting down little stories on napkins, notebooks, and her hand. As an adult she was further submerged into the book world through book clubs and the epicness of social media. It was then that she graduated to writing her stories on her phone and then finally on a proper computer.
A nursing student, mother to two rambunctious and somewhat rotten boys, and stepmom to two great girls away at college, she shares her time with her husband in Chicago where she was born and raised. Mandi is a diehard hockey fan and blames the Blackhawks when her deadlines are not met.
Love Hurts is her debut novel and she is currently working on the next in the series along with whatever other voices are clamoring for attention in her mind.

She’s no stranger to love and loss…

By age eighteen, Alexa Kingsley had lost everyone. Only Joey, the lonely boy next door, remained. He’d clung to Alexa like a lifeline through years of abuse at the hands of his father, and she vowed to protect him as best she could. Alexa thought Joey was the one person who’d always be there—until the day he left her as well. Finally forced to go it alone, Alexa finds this latest loss may hurt worst of all.

He’s no stranger to lack of love…

Joseph O’Connor was every bit the villain his father trained him to be, his young heart twisted into something ugly, corrupted. But his father underestimated the girl next door, miscalculated the impact Lexi would have on Joey’s life, the spark she ignited that eventually, despite all odds, grew to an inferno of hope. To reclaim her, Joey must first become a man Lexi can be proud of…the kind of man she deserves.

Amidst a shadowy world of guns and drugs, will Joey’s ultimate sacrifice—a declaration of love from a man who was never shown any at all—be enough to finally set him free?

“Oh gods I have stalked this author and this book right from the get go, freaking love this author and her writing style, the dark, the emotions, the grit, all things that make this one of my favourite authors..” ~ Kitty Kats Crazy About Books

 TEASER-2-EVIE-HARPER
review

Since meeting Lexi and Joey in the previous books in the series, readers have grown to understand the bond/love that’s between them. But amidst the pleasure and comfort of their connection is a fissure that continues to expand every time Joey puts revenge and setting things right before Lexi…before what they share.

Each time Joey leaves Lexi and puts himself in danger in order to make up for his past misdeeds, her heart gets broken and she attempts to move on, letting go, rather unsuccessfully, of her feelings for him and finding someone who will give her what she needs.

But despite the distance, lack of communication, and the knowledge of Joey’s choices, he’s still everything Lexi wants and needs, and in You Loved Me At My Ugliest, she learns that it’s not a life of normalcy or an ordinary man that Lexi needs to feel settled and safe; it’s Joey – being with him regardless of where they are, what they have to endure, and what ugliness they bring with them.

Evie Harper does a great job of delivering the message that even the ugliest parts of people still make them who they are and lead them to decide what path they choose to take. Joey’s ugliness stems from his father and the O’Connor name and what it stands for. He has lived with a past and present full of darkness, blood, and regret, but Lexi has been with him every step of the way, allowing him to keep a part of himself beautiful – a part filled with hope, humanity, and love.

In the world that Evie Harper creates in her You Loved Me series, nothing is easy; evil surrounds everything and threatens to destroy even the strongest of bonds. Lily and Jake, Emily and Kanye, and Joey and Lexi all have to fight through the darkness, their weaknesses, and the ugliness they’ve faced in order to move forward together, which is not an easy task. It will leave them broken, devastated, and merely surviving instead of living, but Evie Harper always gives her characters and her readers small glimpses of hope as the story continues, forcing her hero/heroine to work to get themselves out of the abysmal situations they are in and find their happiness again.

Through the darkness when people are at their weakest is when their ugliest parts can be portrayed, but those who can rise above and deal with the pain and sadness, fighting with everything that they have, those survivors are who deserve their happy ending and that’s what Evie Harper strives to give her characters and her readers despite everything that is fighting against them.

Cat love 2

Excerpt

At twenty-three, you think you’ve experienced a lot. Been there, done that for the most part. Older people might laugh at you for expressing such beliefs, but you still don’t expect to come across reality-altering experiences.

Here I am, with the morning energy of Seven setting in around me as I carry a small, lost cat from the locked unit back to my apartment… only the bundle of fur is changing.

There’s something wrong, I think, my thought natural and instinctive. But when her coat retracts against my hand, replaced by smooth, human skin, my intuition withdraws too and checks out.

I think I roar while she expands in my arms. I’m frozen in place, my vocal cords the only part of me responding. She grows heavier, longer, wider, until she plops from my hold and onto the floor. Vamp-red hair flames around her in bright waves, and is that a snarl lifting her lip?

For an instant, I swipe the hallway with my eyes, hoping someone sees what I see. No nurses, no doctors, only Mrs. Anderson’s ancient husband is there, fists clutching his walking chair while he takes in the apparition between us.

Not a thread covers stunning porcelain skin. She swings, bereaving me of my fleeting view of a small ruby-red triangle and kiss-shaped nipples, and leaps to the breakroom yards from where I stand.

Ulani’s gone. It takes me a moment to react. I meet old Robert Anderson’s incredulous gaze, and I shake my head at him, both denying what we’ve experienced and assuring him that we’re together in this.

As I turn to follow her, he mutters, “Holy God,” behind me, and my next session with a patient will have to be with Robert. He’s been free of Dr. Holstein’s treatments because of his quiet ways, but if he starts talking about this, he’ll quickly become another notch in the good doctor’s lab desk.

I just experienced something I never thought possible. A freaking cat morphed into a woman. Hell, this is what dreams and movies are made of. At the same time, I’m conditioned to react to the needs of my patients, which is why I chase after her now.

Besides Ulani, no one’s in the breakroom. She’s got part of the curtains draped around her, forming an orange toga, and bare toes with scarlet nail polish peek out. She’s stunning, but more than my physical attraction to her, her emotions fascinate me.

My years in this hospital are few, but the number of hours I’ve worked could double the years, and now it’s time to cloak myself in professionalism.

“Ulani,” I say. “Are you okay?” It’s a simple yet necessary question. Since I have no experience with cat women, I’m not privy to the sort of strain such a transformation can have on their bodies.

Her glare is not human, I realize. I was struck by the beauty of those irises the last time I saw her. Now, she narrows my view of saturated emeralds behind slitted eyes. She’s suspicious but not afraid—neither is she the slightest bit confused. This girl has issues, but they’re not on the mental level.

“Don’t. Say. Anything.” Ulani enunciates the words one by one, putting so much emphasis into her command that her intensity reverberates in my chest.

Efficient footsteps clack down the corridor outside. The slight shuffle of Dr. Holstein’s gait accompanies it. Laurie replies to his orders with “right, of course” and “certainly, Dr. Holstein,” but then they both come to a dead halt in the doorway.

“I found Ulani,” I say quietly.

“Remy, John!” Dr. Holstein barks down the hallway. “I need your assistance immediately.”

REVIEW: HIM by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy‏

Release Date: July 28th

Blurb

They don’t play for the same team. Or do they?

Jamie Canning has never been able to figure out how he lost his closest friend. Four years ago, his tattooed, wise-cracking, rule-breaking roommate cut him off without an explanation. So what if things got a little weird on the last night of hockey camp the summer they were eighteen? It was just a little drunken foolishness. Nobody died.

Ryan Wesley’s biggest regret is coaxing his very straight friend into a bet that pushed the boundaries of their relationship. Now, with their college teams set to face off at the national championship, he’ll finally get a chance to apologize. But all it takes is one look at his longtime crush, and the ache is stronger than ever.

Jamie has waited a long time for answers, but walks away with only more questions—can one night of sex ruin a friendship? If not, how about six more weeks of it? When Wesley turns up to coach alongside Jamie for one more hot summer at camp, Jamie has a few things to discover about his old friend…and a big one to learn about himself.

Warning: contains sexual situations, skinnydipping, shenanigans in an SUV and proof that coming out to your family on social media is a dicey proposition.

HIM1

Review

I absolutely loved Him.

Holy shit was this story hotter than hell!

The dual POVs definitely made this book that much better; it’s so important when dealing with sensitive topics and redefining relationships that readers get to hear from both characters and that’s exactly what Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy give readers.

Wes and Jamie – hockey players, best friends, lovers?

Ryan Wesley knew who he was and what he wanted, but the one person who he wanted was his straight best friend, and one bet ruins their friendship because Wes wants more and he can’t have it. But after four years of no communication, Wes and Jamie are reunited and their camaraderie picks up right where it left off, solidifying the connection they had all those years in hockey camp and forcing them both to realize that the feelings they have for one another are deeper than either expected them to be, forcing Jamie to make realizations about himself that he wants to explore with his best friend.

But in a sport and society that is quick to judge and ridicule, how can Wes and Jamie explore what they have if they can only show it behind closed doors?

The journey that Bowen and Kennedy take Wes and Jamie on is one filled with self realization, exploration, and hard truths, and as they begin to explore their feelings, giving themselves to each other in every sense of the word, readers are privy to each touch, each moment of ecstasy, each monumental decision, and every single emotion felt by both Wes and Jamie, both good and bad.

Wes and Jamie struggle with major decisions throughout the text, and through the writing, readers feel all of their fear, anxiety, and frustration. There’s a lot on the line for both of them, and it affects how they move forward. Some choices made, especially by Wes, will frustrate readers, but readers understand why regardless of how they feel because the authors clearly illustrate the reasons behind each act.

I am a huge fan of M/M books; they deal with real issues faced on a daily basis and work to prove the idea that love is love, and Him clearly sends that message in one sexy, emotional, and highly entertaining read.

Review

The truth about Tristan is that he’s afraid to love because he envisions love entailing nothing but pain, so his lifestyle choices fit his fears and allow him to be the reckless playboy.

Another truth about Tristan is that he’s more than a manwhore guitarist. There’s depth to him that is only shown in shorts bursts in the previous books, like when he consoles Guinie and feels the intense loss of Arturo.

But the biggest truth about Tristan is that his childhood and living arrangements shattered a boy who could believe in love and happily ever afters – a boy who constantly had to prove his worth and the value of music to his Uncle, but it was never enough.

But a certain Irish beauty might just be the person to show him the way to feel and the truth about love.

The truth about Ireland is that, like Tristan, she’s hiding from the current state of her life because she’s being forced to live it a certain way under her mother’s dictate and it’s destroying her.

Another truth about Ireland is that there’s so much more to her than a pretty face and thin body, but she’s rarely allowed to show who she truly is until Tristan.

But the biggest truth about Ireland is that she’s afraid to stand up for herself in order to get what she wants because she’s always done what she’s been told, but when she gets away from her real life, she starts to understand what she could have if she only took back control of her life was honest about what her and Tristan’s distracting acts really are.

Each couple in L.B. Dunbar’s Legendary Rock Star series seems to give each other what they need, whether they realize they need it or not, and that is definitely the case for Tristan and Ireland, but it’s so much more than that…they both have misconceptions of what relationships are supposed to be like and what love is supposed to look like, and those warped ideas have forced them both down paths they no longer want to travel. But while Tristan and Ireland can admit that to themselves, it’s harder to tell everyone else because there are outside forces that disagree and have the power to do something about it.

After reading The Truth of Tristan Lyons, his Heartbreaker nickname represents a much different idea because it defines more of what he does to himself than what he does to his conquests, and in order to live down the negative moniker, he’s going to finally have to put everything on the line for Ireland – in order to save her and himself.

Once again, L.B. Dunbar delivers a tale full of secrets, passion, and heartache. There’s a definite theme of duty/sacrifice vs. love/connection and that idea will resonate with readers.

I absolutely adore this series and its knights of the round table, and I can’t wait for Arturo and Guinevere’s tale to be told.

Excerpt
The Truth of Tristan Lyons excerpt © L.B. DunbarI wanted to know who she was. Scratch that, I didn’t care who she was. I wanted to know how she got in the house. Damn these fangirls, sometimes.  They knew no shame.
“Hey,” I said grabbing her upper arm. “How did you get in here?”
She seemed caught unaware of my approach and screamed loudly, pushing at my chest hard enough, the sheer surprise forced me to let go of her.
With her hand on her chest and her breasts rising and falling in great agitation, I was able to see her big blue eyes and the sprinkle of freckles across her nose. Her chin length blonde hair fell forward as she bent to clasp her knees and catch her breath.
Standing up almost as quickly as she bent over, she spoke to me through delicious looking pink lips.
“Who the fuck are you?” she growled.
“Who the fuck, are you?” I returned.
“I’m…”
“You know what, never mind. You need to go,” I said, cutting her off and reaching for her upper arm again. “I don’t know how you got in here, where you came from, or how you found me, but you need to go.”
I began to tug her toward the front entry, her feet sliding in her flip-flops across the tile flooring. She pulled back, and the force made her skid on an angle across the slippery surface as I dragged her. She continued to glare at me quizzically, leaning away from me.
“I don’t know what you are talking about?”
“Did you follow me, is that it? See me in the airport?”
“What?”
“Okay, I love you too, now you need to go. Okay?”
“What are you talking about?”
“Don’t pretend you don’t know who I am?”
“I don’t.”
I stopped, still holding firmly to her arm. Something in her voice sounded like she was being serious.
“I’m Tristan.”
She blinked, confusion clearly on her face. I was thoughtful for a moment. It was the innocence in her blue eyes, and the fact she looked like she might cry. Something wasn’t right with this scenario.
“Trist – an,” I said slowly, as if she had some type of hearing impairment.
“Who?”
I narrowed my eyes at her.
“What kind of music do you listen to?”
“Country,” she answered so quickly, she didn’t even blink an eye or stop for thought. On top of that, she said it in such a way that showed she was thoroughly confused, and almost disgusted with me, for even asking such a ridiculous question. She wrinkled her nose.
“Look, I know the owner, and you shouldn’t be here.”
“I know the owner,” I repeated, “and you shouldn’t be here.”
“I’m not leaving,” she said, pulling at her own arm again and sticking out a hand to press against my chest as leverage. I had tugged my shirt off at some point while I was passed out, and her warm hand felt good on my air-conditioned cool skin. Her hand was tiny, I noticed. All of her was thin.
“I’m supposed to be here. Alone,” I emphasized again.
She didn’t respond, so I added, “I think I’ll just call the owner myself, to see where the mix up is.”
“No,” she blurted, stopping in her physical struggle against me. Her eyes opened even wider, if that was possible, and her face was suddenly full of something I couldn’t read. Her blue eyes brightened in a frightening sort of way. Was that fear? Good, she should be afraid.
“Please. I swear. I’m allowed to be here. You don’t need to call Isa.”
She had me. I didn’t really know who Isa was, and the girl sounded confident enough that I let her call my bluff.
“If there is a mistake, and you were scheduled to stay as well, I won’t complain. As a matter of fact, I won’t even be in your way. You won’t even know I’m here. I plan to keep to myself.”  Her eyes were glassy, and again I worried she was about to cry.
I released her arm and she pulled it back quickly. She fisted the hand of that arm, holding it against her chest. She began rubbing her upper arm with the opposite hand. I noticed again that she was thin, as were her breasts. I didn’t care for small chested girls. I didn’t care for her.
“Well, I’m Tristan, whom you claim to not know, and you are?”
“I’m…Ireland.”
“Ireland what?”
“Just…Ireland.”
I shook my head.
“So this is how we’re going to play it? Fine, my Irish Isle. What are you doing in the Caymans?”
She looked at me for a moment, then leaned toward me and sniffed. She held the disgusted expression on her face and wrinkled her nose as she pulled back.
“Probably the same thing as you.”
“Drinking myself into oblivion?” I laughed, crossing my arms over my bare chest defensively.
“Hiding,” she replied.
Author Bio
L.B. Dunbar loves to read to the point it might be classified as an addiction. The past few years especially she has relished the many fabulous YA authors, the new genre of New Adult, traditional romances, and historical romances. A romantic at heart, she’s been accused of having an overactive imagination, as if that was a bad thing. Author of the Sensations Collection, Sound Advice, Taste Test, Fragrance Free, Touch Screen, and Sight Words, she is also author of the Legendary Rock Star series, beginning with The Legend of Arturo King. She grew up in Michigan, but has lived in Chicago for longer, calling it home with her husband and four children.++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++I’d like to say I was always a writer.  I’d also like to say that I wrote every day of my life since a child.  That I took the teaching advice I give my former students because writing every day improves your writing.  I’d like to say I have my ten-thousand hours that makes me a proficient writer.  But I can’t say any of those things.  I did dream of writing the “Great American Novel” until one day a friend said:  Why does it have to be great?  Why can’t it just be good and tell a story?

As a teenager, I wrote your typical love-angst poetry that did occasionally win me an award and honor me with addressing my senior high school class at our Baccalaureate Mass. I didn’t keep a journal because I was too afraid my mom would find it in the mattress where I kept my copy of Judy Blume’s Forever that I wasn’t allowed to read as a twelve year old.

I can say that books have been my life. I’m a reader. I loved to read the day I discovered “The Three Bears” as a first grader, and ever since then, the written word has been my friend.  Books were an escape for me. An adventure to the unknown. A love affair I’d never know. I could be lost for hours in a book.

So why writing now?  I had a story to tell. It haunted me from the moment I decided if I just wrote it down it would go away. But it didn’t. Three years after writing the first draft, a sign (yes, I believe in them) told me to fix up that draft and work the process to have it published. That’s what I did. But one story let to another, and another, and another. Then a new idea came into my head and a new storyline was created.

I was accused (that’s the correct word) of having an overactive imagination as a child, as if that was a bad thing. I’ve also been accused of having the personality of a Jack Russell terrier, full of energy, unable to relax, and always one step ahead. What can I say other than I have stories to tell and I think you’ll like them. If you don’t, that’s okay. We all have our book boyfriends. We all have our favorites. Whatever you do, though, take time for yourself and read a book.

It didn’t matter, showing up with someone was good in a social situation; and Nikki wasn’t a bad date to have. The press made more of an effort to turn up at these events if they thought the beautiful and bitchy supermodel Nikki Vilanova would be on my arm. She was always good for a little drama in the tabloids; not that I liked the drama but I could appreciate the role the press played in my line of work. They’d been following our relationship for a while, if you could even call it that. When she was in town we spent time together, we were never anything more or less. I walked the line with keeping her at a comfortable distance and keeping her happy because she was a great fuck. That had been established the first night we were together.; she was wild and uninhibited and never wore out her welcome. She didn’t require any post-coital cuddling– just the way I preferred it. I had a bedroom attached to my office for late nights that had the added benefit of serving as a fuck pad. She’d asked once or twice for me to take her home, but I’d been able to put her off easily. The truth was, I wasn’t comfortable bringing anyone home. I was wary of who I could trust and wasn’t comfortable inviting them into my house and my life any more than I had to.

Nikki and I had shown up just a few minutes before to the opening of a new boutique on Newbury and it wasn’t long before I was bored out of my skull. Nikki giggled and kept a predatory hand on my forearm as we sipped champagne. My eyes scanned the room for faces I knew and wanted to avoid, and for those that I would need to mingle with tonight. Madeleine would have been my first choice for a date, she was great with these things; she had the ability to direct conversation and knew intuitively when I wasn’t interested in talking to someone. Nikki on the other hand was interested in talking to everyone; she liked to keep as many connections in her back pocket as possible, never knowing when they would come in handy later. I guess at the end of the day I was just another connection for her, albeit one that she fucked when it was convenient.

I tightened my jaw when Nikki’s fingertips trailed up my forearm suggestively. I ignored her intimate gesture and brought the champagne flute to my lips before my gaze settled on a pair of dark green eyes that were focused on mine. Striking, soft, gentle green eyes. My heart rate accelerated and the conversation around me seemed to fall away. The world halted as my eyes focused on the dark-haired beauty staring back at me.

My gaze dropped to the chestnut tendrils framing her beautiful, heart-shaped face. Her full lips were curved in a soft frown as she looked at me. What could she be thinking that would have her frowning at me? Perhaps my reputation had preceded me, it wouldn’t be the first time.

But this girl– I knew I had to meet her, to talk to her, to hear her voice; those lush lips curving around sensual words. I envisioned soft lips locked on my ear lobe, whispering breathless moans along the skin of my neck, hearing her call my name as I sank into her.

Fuck me, this girl is affecting me.

But I knew I was affecting her too. I could see it. She couldn’t break our intense stare down any easier than I could.

Finally the world started to spin again and I arched my eyebrow at her, a silent acknowledgment of the moment that had flared between us. I watched her take a quick breath, her full breasts perfectly outlined in her fitted white dress. Fuck, I wanted to feel them in my hands, suck on them, tease them until her nipples hardened. What color would they be when I coaxed her body into arousal? The same shade as her dark, rosy lips?

Her eyes widened for a moment and then she turned back to her friend and tried to pretend that I hadn’t just swept the air from her lungs.

I had to meet her.

I waited until the party cleared out later that night and Nikki was tied up with someone else. I didn’t know with who and I didn’t care, I was just glad to have her off my back so I could seek out the brunette beauty that I’d been consumed with all night. She’d never been far from my sight. I’d followed her with my eyes, insuring she didn’t leave and watching her mingle. In my perusal, I’d noticed every single server pass her flirty glances as they gave her champagne. Jealously poured through my body when she smiled sweetly back at them. I’d have to call the company that provided the waitstaff and make it known in no uncertain terms that if the servers couldn’t refrain from flirting with the guests, they would no longer be getting my business.

I watched as she spoke to her friend, a smile spreading across her face, her eyes crinkling in the most captivating way. My heart skipped a beat every time she laughed because her entire face lit up and her green eyes danced. I swear that smile had every guy in the room falling at her feet, but I knew intuitively they weren’t her type; they couldn’t make a girl like that happy. And even if I wasn’t her type, I’d make it my mission in life to be.

Fuck if I can’t keep my eyes off her, I’m ruined.

“Great view.” I breathed in her ear as she stood at the windows looking out over Boston Harbor. I wouldn’t know if the view was great or not, all I could think about was running my hands through her hair. Twisting my fingers in it, feeling the silky strands caress my skin. Fuck, my dick’s getting hard just thinking about her hair.

What the fuck is wrong with me?

She spun around and a spray of champagne landed on my herringbone suit. Her burning green eyes traveled up my body. I held my breath as she took me in.

“Oh my God, I am so sorry,” she finally spoke before setting her glass down on a nearby table and digging through the tiny purse she was carrying. My eyes flicked from her flushed face to the liquid dampening the arm of my suit. I frowned for a moment and wondered how I could work with this situation. The thought crossed my mind that I could coerce her into a date in return for spilling on my suit. A smirk played across my lips at the thought.

“It’s alright.” I placed a hand on her arm and fire sparked in my system. Her soft skin beneath mine had the blood pumping through my veins at a punishing pace. She took my fucking breath away and I hadn’t even gotten her dress off yet.

“I’m sorry, I’ll pay to have it cleaned. If you send the bill to me. Here…” She said before she was off digging in her bag again. Fuck that bag. Look at me.

“I’ve got it. Really,” I said as I squeezed her arm reassuringly. My eyes couldn’t help but trail down her curvy body; past her defined waist, her lush hips that I couldn’t stop thinking about digging my fingers into. I imagined those shapely legs wrapped around my hips as I plowed into her soft body. Fuck, my dick grew impossibly harder as my brain shut down.

“Carter Morgan.” I held my hand out to her.

“Evangeline Austin,” she replied as she placed her small hand in mine. I was lost in the swirling green depths of her eyes as we gazed at each other. The world fell away and all that existed in that moment was her hand in mine.

“Hey Eva, are you ready? Everyone who’s anyone has come and gone.” I heard a voice burst our perfect, hypnotic bubble. I didn’t care. I was choosing to block everyone else out. Nothing mattered more in that moment than the beautiful, green-eyed angel whose hand was locked in mine. “Uh… hi, I’m Cate Evans.” The voice at my shoulder intruded on the moment I thought I was having with this girl– Evangeline, Eva. I glanced to see the friend she’d been with all night. Short, blonde, bubbly Cate Evans; my mind registered the name and filed it away for later.

I only nodded at her and then my eyes searched out Evangeline’s again. I couldn’t stay away from her for long. I knew nothing about her and yet I was sure of that. I was consumed with the beautiful, flustered, carefree Evangeline Austin.

“Well Evangeline, despite the fact that you may have ruined my favorite suit, I hope to see you again.” Fuck if that didn’t come out wrong. Here I’d met a beautiful, dark-haired angel and I may have fucked it all up before it’d even begun. I flashed her the confident smirk that generally gets me out of trouble in any given situation and hoped I could rectify the bad impression I’m sure I made on her.

“Ms. Evans.” I addressed her friend before giving Evangeline one last lingering glance. Then I dropped her hand and turned to walk out. I scanned the room for Nikki and saw her drinking with a large group by the bar. Nikki was a party girl in the truest form and tonight wouldn’t be the first time I’d ducked out before midnight while she stayed out ’til dawn.

I pulled my phone out of my pocket as soon as I hit the pavement and found Parker waiting along the curb.

“Mr. Morgan.” Parker nodded as I slid into the backseat.

“Evening, Parker.” I mumbled as I scrolled through the list of contacts on my phone before I found the number I was looking for and hit send.

“Johnson? Find me everything you can on Evangeline Austin and Cate Evans in Boston. May be connected to the fashion industry. It’s time sensitive. Thanks.” I hung up as Parker pulled into the traffic of the Boston night.

Evangeline. She was an angel after all.

Bleeding Love

(Stand alone)

I’ve loved once. I gave everything that I had to that love. Blindly believing that nothing could ever take that feeling away from me. Away from us. And when my little world of happiness was ripped from my fingers, I felt a loss that still haunts me to this day.

Now I use that lingering grief as a shield to keep my heart from loving again. It’s that fear that keeps me from letting anyone, except my daughter, get close enough to make it hurt. To make my heart bleed when I inevitably lose again.

Until the day I met Liam Beckett and everything I thought I had protected myself from was shoved back in my face.

He’s on a mission to prove to me that a love worth having is a love worth fighting for.

Review

LIVE…FEEL…BREATHE and throw in a little BECKETT MAGIC, and it’s the perfect combination to help someone see through the shadows, to get past the pain, and to feel alive.

In Bleeding Love, that’s Liam Beckett’s objective, and he’ll see it through with the help of his father’s mantra: “if you want something, you don’t stop until it’s yours.”

Liam wants Megan; he knows she’s worth fighting for, and he takes up that crusade in order to help them both feel complete, and despite Megan’s walls, fears, and sadness, Liam plans to make her feel in every way possible.

Liam Beckett is definitely at the top of my list for book boyfriends, and he is my absolute favorite, along with his father, of Harper Sloan’s alpha males. Liam’s actions and attitude throughout Bleeding Love are completely selfless, and they seem to just be his natural way of doing things. He is an empathetic man who knows exactly what Megan needs to pull herself out of the darkness and live again, and he also understands that Megan’s transformation is not going to be instantaneous and Liam has the patient and the resolve to help her succeed no matter how long it takes.

Harper Sloan does such an amazing job of illustrating Megan’s devastation, guilt, and apprehension after losing her husband, and Sloan also proves that family isn’t only signified by sharing the some blood. There is a tremendous support system surrounding Megan and Molly, and regardless of how much Megan tries to push them away, they refuse to allow it and step up in life changing ways.

Bleeding Love is a book that allows readers to feel every single emotion of the characters. They will cry, laugh, and swoon as they witness Liam fighting for Megan and his determination to claim her as his. It is definitely a book to be savored and its lessons are relevant and realistically portrayed.

Harper Sloan continues to amaze me with her fantastic storytelling, in-depth characterizations, and her ability to connect with readers on a level that is emotional, sexy, and sweet.

I loved every single thing about Lee and his story!

Excerpt

His mouth leaves mine and with his hand still on my leg, he demands, “Dig your heels in deep, baby.”

I give him what he wants, but not because he told me to.  I give him what he wants because when his hand leaves my leg and pushes into the mattress, bringing his body up he goes even deeper into my body and those heels push hard.

Just as he demanded earlier, my hands go to his shoulders on my own accord and as he takes my body hard, my nails dig in with my heels still pushing hard against the small of his back.  Our eyes never leave each other’s probing gaze.  Never once do I take my eyes away from his, so full of lust that I know there isn’t an ounce of control left in his body.

He drops his head and I lift up to meet him in a kiss so sweet it doesn’t match the powerful way that he’s taking my body.  A kiss that gives me more than words ever could at this moment.  His hips slow and as his tongue rolls against mine, his hips start to take me in slow, deep rolls.  He doesn’t pull back, just rocks his hips against mine.

I push up and cry out when he slips even deeper.

His lips come from mine and his hooded eyes open a sliver.  “Feels like heaven,” he says softly.  “Everything, darlin’.  Feels like everything.”

Review

The monster or the man?

A man of their creation or his own?

Stay in the present where he’s static or fight to get answers about his past that could very well make him lose all control?

Xavier Blood – an assassin programmed to kill without emotions

But who was he before?

Well, readers will get their answers in Devil’s Blood, and the journey to those conclusions will come at a price, not only for X but for Mercy Reid as well. Blood will be spilled and secrets revealed and their lives will sure as hell not remain static after this.

I absolutely loved this story; the transformations of both X and Mercy in the series, all leads up to what goes down in Devil’s Blood, and it is one fantastically dark and gritty ride.

I don’t blame X for deciding to let his past go and focus on the present and learning to be the new Xavier – the man who loves Mercy and just wants to be with her. Is it naive to think that he wouldn’t be forced to face things? Yea probably, but learning about the past doesn’t change what happened; in fact, it only complicates the pain, frustration, and confusion X already feels. But with the monster still festering under the surface and Royal Blood out to silence him, Xavier can’t hide forever because there’s too many variables at play and one is the woman who means everything to him.

Does Mercy’s persistence to learn the truth about Xavier’s past and the actions she takes to make that happen cause unnecessary complications and piss X off? Absolutely. But Xavier can’t be completely reborn without acquiring the full picture; he can’t move forward when people are still out for his blood.

Mercy kicks ass in Devil’s Blood; she fights for her man and for herself, and even though some of her decisions led to bigger worries, every single one that she made was to give Xavier back himself because she might not be able to completely fix him but she can damn sure give him a bit of peace.

Xavier Blood was an assassin, a hitman, a ghost, and unfortunately a monster, but he’s also a man who was conditioned by a group of assholes who wanted to make him their puppet.

The new Xavier blood is still a killer and a ghost, but he’s also a man who has withstood a shitstorm of pain, torture, and darkness and created a life on his terms.

RECOMMENDED FOR READERS 18 AND OLDER DUE TO

STRONG LANGUAGE, SEXUAL SITUATIONS AND VIOLENCE

Out of Time is book two in a series. It is not a standalone novel. I highly recommend that you read my first novel, Nine Minutes, to be able to understand the background stories of the main characters. There are many twists and turns in both stories that can best be connected if read consecutively.

Although I do answer all of the outstanding questions from Nine Minutes, there is more to this story, and some readers may consider it a cliffhanger. If you do not like cliffhangers, you may want to wait until the third novel is released in 2016.

They thought with his execution it would all be over.

They were wrong.

The leader of one of South Florida’s most notorious and brutal motorcycle gangs has been put to death by lethal injection. Days later, his family and friends should have been picking up the pieces, moving on. Instead, they’ve been catapulted into a world so twisted and dangerous even the most ruthless among them would be stunned to discover the tangled web of deception, not only on the dangerous streets of South Florida but all the way to the top.

In this gripping follow-up novel to Nine Minutes, Out of Time takes readers from the sun-drenched flatlands of 1950s Central Florida to the vivid tropical heat of Fort Lauderdale to the halls of Florida’s Death Row as we finally learn the gritty backstory of Jason “Grizz” Talbot and the secret he spent his life trying to conceal.

Not even Grizz’s inner circle knows his full story—the tragedy that enveloped his early life, the surprise discovery that made him the government’s most wanted and most feared, and the depths of his love for Ginny, the tenderhearted innocent he’d once abducted and later made his wife.

Once Grizz’s obsession and now the mother of his child, Ginny has spent years grieving the man she’d first resisted and then came to love. Now remarried to Tommy, a former member of the gang, the pair have spent more than a decade trying desperately to live a normal existence far from the violent, crime-ridden world they’d once carved out on the edge of the Florida Everglades. For Tommy, especially, the stakes are high. Desperately in love with Ginny for years, he’s finally living his dream: married to the woman he never thought he could have. But even with the façade of normalcy—thriving careers, two beautiful children, and a genuinely happy and loving marriage—they can’t seem to put the past behind them. Every time they turn around, another secret is revealed, unraveling the very bonds that hold them together.

And with Grizz finally put to death, now Ginny has learned secrets so dark, so evil she’s not even sure she can go on.

Will these secrets tear their love to pieces? And how far will Grizz go to protect what he still considers his, even from beyond the grave?
