I’m always excited when supporting characters that have played such pivotal roles in the lives of one of the main characters in the series get their own book. I always want to know what makes them the way they are…what happened in their lives to cause them to act a certain way or be that go to person for the hero or heroine. Aerie Daniels is a complicated person; on the surface, she exudes strength, security, and ambition. She’s 100% loyal to a fault. When Dahlia needed her most, Aerie stepped up for her and saw her through her torment every step of the way. But looks can definitely be deceiving, and in Dazed, readers get a more intimate look into what made/makes Aerie who she is. At Aerie’s core is a vulnerable woman who has been burned by love so badly that she constructed a wall around her heart that she refuses to tear down for anyone. She’s never quite understood the allure of sex because she’s never allowed herself to experience that kind of burning desire for someone until River’s cousin, Jagger Kennedy, enters her life by first stealing her cupcakes and then stealing her heart. Jagger is sex personified, and he makes Aerie feel things that she has never felt before. He’s also been through heartbreak in a past relationship, but the difference between them is that Jagger is willing to risk it because the connection he feels with Aerie is worth it, and even though his past resurfaces and some angst is created, Aerie does finally let go of some of her control and gives her heart to Jagger.

Dazed is a fantastic read and a must-read addition to the Connected Series, and while you don’t have to read the previous two books in the series to understand the events that occur in Dazed, you’re missing out if you don’t! Kim Karr is the type of storyteller who knows how to keep readers engrossed in the text because she creates characters who are so much more than one dimensional; she allows us to get to know them by providing us with a multifaceted look at who they are as well as what they think and feel. At the beginning of Dazed, I kind of wanted to hear Jagger’s point of view, but as the story continued, it made much more sense to only hear it from Aerie’s point of view because as she falls for him and gets to know him, so do we as readers, which allows us to easily connect with this amazing couple. I can’t wait to see what Kim has in store for us with Xander’s story.
