My Review

If you’re a reader familiar with Tarryn Fisher’s books, you already know that nothing is what it seems when it comes to a story’s plot line and characters, and that what you perceive as the reality of certain situations that occur as the book progresses is anything but…perception isn’t always factual or honest, which is exactly why it’s extremely difficult to trust in your inferences about the story line because it’s not your story, for that matter, it’s not even the author’s story…it’s where the characters want and need to go that dictates how twisted and complex the journey is.

Seeing everything through Thursday’s eyes, one of Seth’s three wives, is what I found to be the biggest mindjolt. There’s truly no reason to doubt what she uncovers, how she reacts to that information, and the way everything unfolds due to the steps taken to resolve the position she finds herself in when her life implodes. 

What’s clear throughout this psychological thriller is that the world is not, and almost cannot be experienced/lived in only black and white, and this is more than scary because it’s an unpredictable, uncontrolled, and potentially unhinged gray area – a place where nothing is guaranteed and where fighting for what you want doesn’t mean you get it or perhaps, even deserve it.

Even though I have a number of Fisher’s book in my Kindle library, I had yet to dive into one, so the opportunity to read/review The Wives was exactly what I needed to be introduced to the way she crafts a story and how character-driven her storylines are…now, I just need to find the time to read her other books!

I shove my fears aside and take another step forward until I’m standing right between his long legs. He raises his chin.

Fuck it. If he kills me for this, then I guess I’m just a dead woman, but at least I’ll know I didn’t go down without trying.

I grip his shoulders and climb on top of his lap, completely naked. Pressing my breasts to his chest, I let my fingers run past his silky, wavy hair to curl a hand around the nape of his neck.

His serious expression doesn’t change. I can’t tell if he’s enjoying this or hating it. I wonder if he can feel my heart beating—feel how terrified and thrilled I am to be doing this. God, what is wrong with me?

I press on his neck with my hand, straddling his lap as I study his full lips. If I’m going to do this, I can’t hold back anymore. I need to prove to him that I’m worthy of being claimed.

So, I lower my face and kiss him. He stiffens in the chair, finally reacting, but I don’t ease up. I use my other hand to caress his shoulders and his upper back, all while kissing him with so much fervor and passion that it nearly cuts me in two. In two, because a part of me hates everything about this, while another part of me—one that I am absolutely disgusted with—is enjoying the hell out of it.

My tongue plunges through his full lips. His mouth tastes like fruit and I sigh devouring the crisp taste. Apple. It’s apple. Without thinking, I grab one of his hands and bring it up, forcing him to palm my ass. A deep groan fills his throat and he clutches me tight.

I fight a smile.

Review

I love MC romances…they’re gritty, twisted, and full of action, and I’m always looking for new series in this trope. I’ve read quite a few books by Shanora Williams, so when I learned she was working on a biker story, I couldn’t wait to see how she constructed and built up her biker world, and because she’s no stranger to darker romances, I had complete faith in her ability to introduce her readers to The Lords of Chaos and the sinfully sexy MC President who sees himself as a bad bet – a man who has nothing to give anything of substance to a woman, especially a woman who gives him more than a little sass and a whole lot of trouble, but not in the way one would expect.

Wolf is definitely a prickly alpha male – one who’s used to relying solely on himself, and as President of an MC, his duty lies with his brothers, upholding established rules and laws that keep things in somewhat of an order even though the biker environment is one of chaos and danger. But there’s also a war going on in the town of Nirvana, which means the stakes are even higher and so are the risks, so Wolf doesn’t have the time to get in deep with Nova…too bad their attraction and connection don’t care about that fact. 

The dynamics between Nova and Wolf are a lot of fun to watch because she’s unlike any woman he’s ever met. Nova didn’t back down from Wolf, never feared him, never bowed down at his feet, which speaks volumes about the kind of heroine she is and just how well she can hold her own with anyone. And, the fact that Nova doesn’t allow Wolf to bulldoze her, doesn’t allow him to boss her around, even though it’s clear she needs his help and protection is what intrigues him the most when it comes to this snarky and beautiful woman who has found her way not only into his club but into his heart, something he never though would or could happen.

Bad For Me is a fast-paced, action packed, twist filled read, and while I felt like there was a bit of information overload, at times, in the storyline, I also understood why those details needed to be provided…I guess I just wanted them to be explored throughout the course of the text instead of a large amount at one time. There’s a lot to sort through when it comes to the ins and outs of the MC as well as the pasts of the hero and heroine and how they lend to readers’ understanding of who they were and are. Overall, I enjoyed my time with Nova and Wolf and there are quite a few intriguing secondary characters who I wouldn’t mind reading about in future story lines.
